Jude Gilliam was born September 20, 1947 in Fairdale, Kentucky. She has a large extended family and is the elder sister of four brothers. She attended Murray State University and received a degree in Art. In 1967, Jude married and took her husband's surname of White, but four years later they divorced. For years, she worked as 5th-grade teacher.
She began writing in 1976, and published her first book, The Enchanted Land (1977) under the name Jude Deveraux. Following the publication of her first novel, she resigned her teaching position. Now, she is the author of 31 New York Times bestsellers.
Jude won readers' hearts with the epic Velvet series, which revolves around the lives of the Montgomery family's irresistible men. Jude's early books are set largely in 15th- and 16th-century England; in them her fierce, impassioned protagonists find themselves in the midst of blood feuds and wars. Her heroines are equally scrappy -- medieval Scarlett O'Haras who often have a low regard for the men who eventually win them over. They're fighters, certainly, but they're also beauties who are preoccupied with survival and family preservation.
Jude has also stepped outside her milieu, with mixed results. Her James River trilogy (River Lady, Lost Lady, and Counterfeit Lady) is set mostly in post-Revolution America; the popular, softer-edged Twin of Fire/Twin of Ice moves to 19th-century Colorado and introduces another hunky-man clan, the Taggerts.
Deveraux manages to evoke a strong and convincing atmosphere for each of her books, but her dialogue and characters are as familiar as a modern-day soap opera's. "Historicals seem to be all I'm capable of," Jude once said in an interview, referring to a now out-of-print attempt at contemporary fiction, 1982's Casa Grande. "I don't want to write family sagas or occult books, and I have no intention of again trying to ruin the contemporary market." Still, Jude did later attempt modern-day romances, such as the lighthearted High Tide (her first murder caper), the contemporary female friendship story The Summerhouse, and the time-traveling Knight in Shining Armor. In fact, with 2002's The Mulberry Tree, Deveraux seems to be getting more comfortable setting stories in the present, which is a good thing, since the fans she won with her historical books are eager to follow her into the future.
Jude married Claude White, who she later divorced in 1993. Around the same time she met Mohammed Montassir with whom she had a son, Sam Alexander Montassir, in 1997. On Oct. 6th, 2005, Sam died at the age of eight in a motorcycle accident.
Jude has lived in several countries and all over the United States. She currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina and has an additional home in the medieval city of Badolato, Italy.
*Reread Review* I have to be completely honest and admit that it never occurred to me how odd it was for a series to head in a direction like this one does. In fact of allllllll the series I have read, I have never before or since first reading it, read a series that moves quite like this one. Probably 98% of books I read are series..
We are back with Darcy but she is not the same as the Darcy we knew. Having lived with and developed her powers over the years she has been through a lot, even working with the FBI finding people and things.. but with all her powers, which get demonstrated in this book, and are quite extensive she can't find the one she truly wants... Adam has been missing and something is blocking her from finding him and his sister Bo. In the height of her depression spending most of her time in trances and meditation desperate for her husband back, her dear ole mom sends a client to her who needs a little help finding his missing son. Lincoln Aimes, famous actor, funny, charming, and oh so gorgeous comes to Darcy completely at a loss how she could possibly help him. His son, who he has never met, due to some decisions he made back when he was a struggling actor to make some cash, has gone missing. Through the years though he wasn't allowed to ever have contact or be involved in his life, Lincoln has kept tabs on him until mysteriously the kid and mom go missing and his lawyer who knew about him ends up dead.. Darcy not wanting to be distracted from her search for Adam grudgingly agrees to send him in the right direction because her mother has never asked for anything before. Upon meeting however, Darcy gets her first feeling about Adam.. she knows if she helps this man it will somehow lead to her finding Adam. Now on their way to the heart of the south, in disguise they search for clues to the missing boy and Darcy slowly gets more clues to finding Adam.. including artifacts like the mirror that she may end up needing to find him.. as well as save the people she is starting to care for and maybe even the world.
So I remember reading this at first and hating Lincoln.. not because he was a bad guy but because I thought the author was setting him up to take Adam's place. To my intense relief that is not the case! I ended up loving this one just as much and then even more than the last. I wish Darcy's life of mystery solving went on forever but I can see why it doesn't. I mean the paranormal crime solver thing has been done quite a bit over the years... But still here is to hoping for a Darcy series in the future lol.
I can definitely see why people are confused at the end here but in all truth in order to see where this is headed you definitely have to read the 3rd book in the series. Right now, we have a tiny bit of knowledge and only a small part of what we need to find Adam and Bo, but Darcy is meant for great things....

Hmmm … I find myself completely and utterly annoyed with this book. So annoyed, in fact, that I find I have a deep seeded need to read the 3rd book in the series just to assure myself that Ms. Deveraux has not lost her dang mind. I mean how in the name of all that is holy do you break up your main characters in such a dreadful way and then try to place a different guy in Adam's place? Well not really in his place, but damn … kind of in his place. I feel betrayed. My emotions are on a roller coaster and I am now cursing the day I decided to read this trilogy. ..........
This story seemed like a bit of a farce. There was definite attraction between Linc and Darci, but knowing her deep love for Adam, the whole thing seemed wrong. Even when Linc propositions Darci, despite the lighthearted tone, I just couldn't get on board with it. Luckily, the entire story did not focus on the connection between Darci and Linc. Overall the story wasn't all that bad. Given the darkness introduced in the first book, I expected worse this time around but such was not the case. The first book lacked the smoldering intimate scenes, whereas the second included a scene with a random character that just didn't make a whole lot of sense. I mean, it made sense, but I just didn't really care about the interaction. The main parts of this story involve past wrongs done to souls long gone, but still tied to the earth. Rights must be wronged, relationships and familial ties must be understood, and the key player (linc's son) has to be found. But even beyond all of the revelations that will be unfolded lies an even deeper secret which involves Darci's power. She will be tested and unless she proves herself worthy, all could be lost despite the good she has done. In the end, even well intentioned people can stumble. With Darci's axis on tilt over the past several months, she is extremely vulnerable to weakness.
And after all of that, I probably haven't explained much to you. Let's say that some things in the story worked while others did not. That said, those who had read the first book prior would likely be more affected by the components that seemed off than someone just coming to the series. Darci remains true to her character in the face of much heartache and temptation, but I missed the fun-loving, care-free Darci of FOREVER. Her character has definitely evolved quite a lot from the last time we saw her. I only hope that she comes back to us in the final book. Linc added a bit of much needed charm to the seriousness of the story and brought a breath of roguish fun with him. Also interesting is the switch between chapters allowing Darci to share her feelings and then Linc to do the same. These shared thoughts provide a better sense of each character and their emotions throughout their journey together. Despite my complaints, I still enjoyed the book. I cannot say what role this book plays within the trilogy until I finish book three, but I am hopeful that it contains essential information that will better aid the reader in assimilating the final book.
Another from my TBR pile. Another paranormal books that didn't grab me. Should I try #3 in the series??? Why not?? Haven't liked 1 or 2 so why not try 3?
Again, I had "high hopes" that this second book in the series would hopefully be a good story, even though fake and far fetched. It turned out to be a mish-mash of supernatural, reading minds, feeling thoughts, trances, and ghosts. Darci's husband and sister-in-law, or step-mother, whatever you want to call her, are missing. Somehow through Darci's mother, a movie star, Linc, is sent to her because his son is missing. Linc has never even met his son, or his son's mother, and it turns out the mother and Linc's agent are supposedly killed, but really aren't. They are led to a plantation house where two sisters run the place, putting on fake seances, but we learn later that they are using Linc's son who has powers of healing, as well as being able to make people sick....even to the point that they die....which would come in handy if you want an inheritance, etc. By the end of the story, Darci's husband and his sister are still missing, so I guess I'm going to read the third book....

I sort of liked the second part of Darci's story. She's still learning about her powers and we're now seeing that there's a lot more going on in this not-a-romance-novel book. The character she's helping, Linc, is the second point of view in the book. There's a lot of sexual tension that can get pretty uncomfortable given the fact that she loves Adam and we definitely don't want our heroine to give in to it even though we know Adam's been missing. I guess there was a purpose for this, I must have missed it but don't want to bother re-reading it again.
Darci's not as bouncy/bubbly/ditzy as she was but that's understandable after the things she's had to deal with. Linc was okay and the other side characters were enjoyable. Montgomery/Taggert family involvement is more involved in trying to protect her her and be there for her especially after Adam disappeared.
You really need to read the third book, Always, to understand all that is going on. Darci's husband, Adam, and his sister have been kidnapped. Darci has to send her daughter and neice to family in Colorado to be away from the Hillbilly Honey accusations that Darci killed her husband for money. Her father is traveling everywhere looking for clues...and even with all Darci's powers she can not find her true love. Lincoln is sent by her mother to search for his son...maybe this search in an old slave plantation will lead to clues for finding Adam. 330 pages
Right away I was thrown off when one of the crucial characters from the first book was gone (with the snap of a finger). However, I loved the story! It was exciting, funny, and cute. Plus, I liked the ending, which is good because I was disappointed with the ending for the first book in the trilogy.
This is the second book in the Forever series. It was good. I didn't like it as much as the first book. The main character is looking for her husband who has been kidnapped by a bad witch. She must find him before he is killed.
Reread...
Ms. Deveraux has written yet another wonderful romance, but had added a touch of the paranormal to her story. To my surprise and enjoyment this addition worked out beautifully.
Darci's husband is missing after a mysterious accident and even her psychic powers haven't been able to help her locate him. Then appears a man at her door named Link, a famous Hollywood actor with a missing son. Darci may be his only chance at finding his son alive. Will Darci over come her own grief and if so, will she do it in time to find a missing little boy?
Ms. Deveraux has never ceased to amaze me. Her power of description makes even the most abstract thoughts and ideas seem real. Her character's are always believable, and original. It will be interesting to see how this trilogy pans out. I can't wait to read the others in the series.
This series is very strange. I had problems with the first one and they continued with this one. The storyline doesn't make any sense. What I am figuring out is that this trilogy is really just one big story. It would have been better as one book and even then the story is just totally convoluted. If I hadn't already owned all 3 books, I probably wouldn't have finished it. The first story opened with a scene that was never referenced again nor were we told how it related to anything. Then in this one we open the story to find that our Hero has been abducted along with his sister. Then they are hardly mentioned again. Instead we have totally unrelated characters and storyline and are supposed to believe that all of this is going to come together and make sense by the end of the 3rd book I have to admit, I have my doubts.
Darci's Adam and his sister Bo are missing, she has been raked over the coals by the press for possibly murdering him for his money, and her father leaves to track down a missing magical artifact. All alone, Darci's mother sends a talented and beautiful black actor, Lincoln Aimes, to her for help in finding his missing son. They go through many gyrations to find him and it becomes clear that Darci and her powers are being tested. I was disappointed that there was no romance in this book, just lust, which got quite boring after a while. There is a hint that Lincoln may find romance at the end, but the book ends with a few loose ends and too quickly.
3 1/2 stars. Would be more because I mostly enjoyed the book but there are parts that made me wonder if the author remembered what she wrote in the previous book. Having read them back to back maybe I picked up the inconsistencies easier but it was annoying. And the second thing is the sexual stuff between Linc and Darci. Her husband is missing, the love of her life and she KNOWS he's alive...but she keeps having "naughty" thoughts about the hot actor she's helping. Sure I get it coming from him but on her side it's kinda cringey.

Once again Jude has taken me on an amazing journey with amazing characters.
this was the second book in the series and I love returning to visit Dari to see how much she had grown and what trouble awaited her. Daria is such an interesting character and the people in her life are interesting as well.
this continuous storyline had me taking twists and turns at every turn of the page. I loved this book and can't wait to finish the last one int the series.
Didn’t like that the main character was heartbroken over her husband being missing but almost every time she’s around Linc she’s sexually aroused or they have a back and forth that’s sexual. It felt misplaced and didn’t give anything to the story at all. I almost stopped reading due to that. However, the mystery, the history and search for answers about her abilities was enough to keep me reading and the writing is always excellent.
This was another winner. I love this author. She writes wonderful characters and great storylines in every book. I read this book before when it was first published. But my memory is not what it was, I forgot this book so I enjoyed reading it a second time. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves mysteries and ghosts. Diana Romano
Es la segunda parte de una serie de libros, si no se leen el primero y los que siguen, se vuelve complejo entender la historia. Poderes impresionantes, que llegan a forzar las situaciones que enfrentan los personajes y un final temporal predestinadamente feliz.
If you have not read Forever published in 2002 #1 you need to read it before this one. This is about Ghosts, lots of Ghosts. You also need to buy #3 Always so you will be ready to read it after you read Forever #1 and Forever and Always #2
Well, usually I really love Jude Deveraux’s books. I got this one not knowing it was part of a series. I think that is a large part of why I didn’t like it as much. There was a lot of previous story I knew nothing about.
Part two of a three part trilogy. This part is a continuation of the first story. I found it intreging, but full of magic, spirits and of course ghosts.
