Even as Christians, we can puzzle over our self-image. What has God made us? What have we made of ourselves? And what can we become in Christ? Richard L. Pratt shows from Scripture how God’s amazing design for humanity can be realized in his people. Solid biblical insights, vivid illustrations, and helpful questions for review and discussion make this a valuable resource for group study or individual use.
Good book! BUT for some reason it was hard for me to finish! I had great momentum the first half and then felt like I'd never finish. I loved the organization and breakdown of the affects of the each covenant, that was very insightful. It wasn't a long book but maybe it was too long? 🤷🏼♀️
This book is most definitely in my top 10 most helpful books I've ever read. Quite possibly because I've read it at a time when I was asking the questions it answers. Anyone who is struggling with lack of purpose or wondering 'what is the point of me?', should read this book.
This isn't a bad book per se. I just found it to be a bit basic as a general review of redemptive history. And while nothing was super-dated, you could also tell when reading it that this was addressing an audience in the 90s. I think I'd recommend Rut Etheridge's God-Breathed over this one for addressing similar themes but more geared for a contemporary audience. Which isn't to say that there was anything bad with this one! It just seems like an introductory text written for a particular time that doesn't speak quite as powerfully to the current generation.
This book changes our Swiss cheese view of the Old Testament to a solid piece of cheese as it moves from Adam to Jesus and through the covenants revealing how God is restoring our marred image from the fall. We are clay images of God. Clay to remind us we were created by God and are humble and yet images of God which gives us great worth. Images, replicas not God Himself to keep us humble as we are so inclined not to be. We go from a lack of humility to morbid introspection and self abating which neither is what God designed.
Pratt writes a clear and simple book concerning the relationship between God and man. He describes what it means for a human to be created in the image of God, and what implications it produces. He also covers how sin affects humanity and our need for redemption. An excellent place to turn for an introduction to this important topic.
