Francis Bacon has a real talent for painting meat-people blurs, blurs-people-meat, people-meat-blurs...whatever the case the man is without doubt one of my favorite artists and I've been looking for a great collection of his artwork for some time. I stumbled upon this collection in my local library, and I've spent every night since just pouring over this paintings.
Bacon creates moment and impressions that linger with the reader because they are unpleasant, but in their grotesqueness there is a sublime quality to them. One feels as if one has seen the spaces between reality and nightmare, and the consistent impression is that these images and people and moments are taking place in real life as if in some kind of warped dream. Using geometry, perspective, surreal reimagining of the human form, and recreating the human body Bacon manages to create the sublime, because even when one is not horrified by the paintings in this collection, one feels as if one is in the presence of an immense and powerful geometric storms.
This collection is a must for any passionate Bacon fan.
