TRUE TO THE GAME II will pick up where True to the Game left off-- with one difference, Gena is now seeing a new guy named Jay. Little does Gena know that the man she has fallen in love with, so soon after Quadir's death, is his archrival, Jerrell Jackson. Unfortunately, Jerrell is determined to get his revenge against Quadir's crew and he'll start with Gena.
True to the Game by author and publisher Teri Woods has been undisputedly titled a classic. While working as a legal secretary for a law firm and juggling motherhood in Philadelphia, PA, Teri Woods completed her first novel, True to the Game. Teri Woods submitted her story over a period of six years to more than 20 different publishers, all of whom rejected her. When major publishing houses refused to embrace True to the Game she wasn’t discouraged. In 1998 instead of giving up, Teri Woods printed, bound, self-published and began selling hand to hand her first book True to the Game. . . . Her grassroots tactic paid off; Teri Woods became a self-made millionaire in just three years selling her novel, True to the Game. She landed a major motion picture deal for the book as well. With the release of True to the Game, Teri Woods has reinvigorated the urban fiction market and created a growing trend in publishing. --from the author's website
Reading this again for the second time. I was feeling the pain for Gena after Qua got killed. But I was happy that she found the money. I was mad with Gena because she was so blinded by wanting to be loved that she didn't do a background check on Jerrell. I read part 2 and 3 on yesterday and I was mad that she let him get so close so quickly. She knew that he didn't have as much as Qua but I still would have thought he would try to use me for my money. But here again this just a book and she didn't know who to trust. But she even said to herself that she couldn't she herself being him because she really didn't know him. I don't know what she was thinking bout. Then offering Rik that money was stupid everybody knew Qudir was a millionair. She was spending too freely for me but all and all this was a great book . And I will read this again!!!
Clearly this author is talented. Heck, this trilogy is now going to be a movie. Yes, I am looking forward to seeing it. I want to see how they take this and make it into an entertaining tale for movie goers.
I listened to this book on Audible. Hands down the best thing about this book was Cary Hite's voice in my ear. He brings stories to life. As uninteresting as this story was for me, I still enjoyed him. Okay enough of Mr. Hite.
There was not enough movement in this story to warrant breaking the story up into another installment. Books 2 & 3 could definitely be combined. Throughout this entire edition, I kept saying two things -"I thought Gina was in mourning over Qua?" and " I thought Gina was supposed to be street savvy?" I can't imagine a street savvy ex-"dope boy's" woman would go out and purchase a 100K car off the showroom, then proceed to "ice out" her hands, wrist and neck. I highly doubt that before she found the money she "came up on" that a street savvy woman would have blown thru the money that Rick gave her to hold her over until she found a job or her next baller. She took 20K and outfitted her grandmothers home in the projects, instead of using the things that she had in storage. Wouldn't all the activity of the new furniture, flooring, etc. bring attention to your grandmother's home? The Richard Allen projects were supposed to be a dangerous place. This just made no sense to me.
Ra's and the dope boy round up story line made sense and went along with a hood tale. This kind of thing happens. I get it. I could even understand Jarelle's story line in this edition again not out of character and made sense.
Gina's parental history. It was brought up and I'm hoping it will have some relevance in the last installment. It had none in this one.
This story did not flow and I would say 75% of it made no sense. The moves made were not the moves of hood kings and queens. I'm not one and even I can tell common sense should have prevailed with characters like Gina. And I'll say it again, telling a reader someone is a certain type of person doesn't work unless the actions of the character reflect it. I didn't feel that Gina was in mourning nor was she street savvy. All that being said, I am going to listen to the final installment next. Fingers crossed the story picks up
Update: This story did not translate well to the big screen, but for (what I believe ) is a first time effort, I commend the author for actually getting her story told in a new medium. Hopefully, lessons learned will be reflected in her new endeavors.

Like normally, the sequel is never better then the first one. This book was fairly okay but like I said the first one was much better. There were many times throughout the book that I had gotten confused. Many times would include the transitions between the portions of the book that included the scenes with the officers and drug dealers and the scenes that included Gena. The ending of the book had started to become very predictable, with the tiny hints thrown in between sentences, from the strange car following her to the random killings that started to occur. The ending wasn’t to hard to figure out. Clearly this book was created to ensure people would purchase the final one, True To The Game 3. This book had no basic plot or problem. The entire book only talked about the journey of Jerrell trying to figure out who the rich mysterious Gena was getting her money from, and vice versa. Everyone was getting voted off the Island in these random murders without any explanations. Part II was a complete buildup into Part 3. If you are a true book reader, the book was setup in a way that would make sure you would want to read Part 3. True to the Game II left so may questions unanswered. This is sometimes a good thing starting from the beginning of the book and getting the answers in the end. But it isn’t necessarily smart to make major questions branch out from book to book.
Reading “True To The Game,” really felt realistic in a way that drew my attention into reading more of the story because I could relate to most of the scenery in Philadelphia. For example, I may come across a homeless cocaine addict on the street begging for money, or row homes filled with friendly neighbors that greet you as you walk into your home. As I was reading this wonderful story, certain chapters had me reminiscing on my past in the summer because I could remember my Uncle and his friends walking to school in the morning, or catching a glimpse of what seems to be a bloody war but actually to girls fighting on a hot day after school. That same incident occurred in the book, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't their Uncle. "True To The Game" was very engaging, suspenseful, and even surprising. All three combinations lead up to an amazing story.
First, I noticed how engaging this story was because once I've read one page something was pulling me to read another. If that's not enough proof for you then I guess when one of the characters get raped right in the middle of chapter two will and if not then I don't know what else will. Or maybe when the baby of one of the top selling drug dealers get snatched from both of her parents while all of them were in the mist of their own home by someone she cheated with her husband on, and possibly could not be her husbands father but the kidnappers which was the mistress's husband friend at the time. Such juicy details came along with such a wonderful shocking story.
Furthermore, if you are looking to read a story that has a shocking climax or better yet suspense that will have you pulling your air out of your head until you know what actually is going on then this is the story for you. Reading more into the book I noticed that this one particular girl fell in love with someone you thought was her soul mate. Surprisingly, Q also known as Quadir died because of the type of Drug related lifestyle he was living. Of course his girlfriend was entirely upset and wanted to seek revenge. She did whatever she could to try and relieve the pain she was going through and yes she died kill a few people but if you had love for your spouse the way she did then apparently you would do it to. Reading more into the story you would have found out at the ending of the book that Quadir never died, and yes he did come back to be with his beloved spouse. He was in protective custody because of something that had went down in the past.
Inconclusion, I feel as though that this story is the total package when it comes to reality, secrets, violence, drugs, sex, and so forth.
This one is just ok....honestly I could have skipped it lol....funny thing I thought I only read book 1&2 back then but did not recall anything from this book at all.....but I remembered things that I thought would be in this book but obviously are in the last installment.....so on to the next.
This one didn’t really capture me the way the first one did. I felt like Gena should’ve known who Jay was simply being from the same area how could she not know? I knew my hunch was right about the car that kept following her I just knew Qua wasn’t gone forreal. It was almost like he was her living angel he saved he from so many things with out her even knowing.
Okay personally I was upset about Quadir being murdered, but you know how it goes in good novels. Gena was so desperate she fell for a trap. Goodness she almost got killed due to her stupidity. I knew from the moment someone as following her it was either gonna be someone else who was going to hurt her, but somewhere hidden I wanted it to be Quadir. He did come save her simple ass. Wonder how he survived ? I have so many questions. This was a good read.

The way this ended, I am running to read part 3 because whattttttttttt!!!!! Let me get my thoughts together first because I have so many questions now!!
Too heavy on the police literature, but since it all works out in the end, I can say I didn't mind it too much. I thought there were a lot of extra conversations that really weren't necessary, like Gena's talk with the hairstylists and other women in the beauty salon. The information could have been described by Woods and not completely spelled out for readers. The information became complex with so many characters. It read like a movie scene but this isn't a movie scene.
Gena's character was too weak in my opinion. Woods did an excellent job of describing Gena's time of mourning, but her bounce back wasn't so intriguing.
I am anxious to read Book III. This cliffhanger was too much. I want to know about Quadir and Rik.
This Book Was SOOOOO Good . I Loved this Book because It Kept Me Intrested And Kept Me Wanting to Read More. In this Book it Continued From TRUE TO THE GAME 1 and It did that Very Well . In this Book Gina ( a regular Project girl) Who Was Engaged To Quadir ( The Hustler From Around the Block) Moved Up to A GHETTO Faboulous Life . BIG HOUSE NICE CARS JEWLERY CLOTHES SHOPPING SPAS HAIR DONE NAILS DONE ! Quadir Tragically Dies From A Fight In A Club With His Rivals And Got shot. Gena Was Literally LOST . His family Striped Her From everything That She Had . Come to Find Out Quadiar Had a Secret Stash Of MILLIONS Of Dollars That she found In his OLD Apartment . You Have to Read TRUE TO THE GAME 3 to No The Rest :)
I read True to the Game when it first came out. Enjoyed it very much. Saw that a sequel had finally been released. Purchased it. It was over before it even began. Too much focus on things that are irrelevant to the progression of the story. Character traits changing. The ending was HORRIBLE. Teri Woods had her one shot with True to the Game but she fell way short on this.
In True to the Game II, the story focuses mostly on Jerrell and the cops. Gena seems to be more of a side character than a main one. And in a neighborhood where everyone clearly knows everyone, I find it hard to believe Gena's the only one who didn't know about Jerrell. This book just didn't live up to the first and bringing back a certain person at the end didn't make it any better.
This is beginning to become my favorite book Series ! I hated the way Jerrell was so Hardcore it made me cringe a few times like I was actually there, and Gena sometimes seemed a little too naive to y taste. But the ending though ....... I was definitley in shock . I can't wait to start on the 3rd book .
What??? Is he really alive? I think Rasun got exactly what his snitching butt deserve. Jerrell, whoo, that was some strange creepy dude. I think she gonna lose the baby but good for her if she do because the baby just gonna remind her of him everyday.
Part 2vwas even more better than part one. I can't believe Quadir is alive. I hope he forgives Gena for sleeping with his archrival because she didn't know who he was. Terri Woods ypo are anbawesome writer. Getting ready to read part 3.
As much as I enjoyed book 1, book 2 did not disappoint! I was planning on reading something else before starting book 3 but I just can't. I've got to find out how this story ends.
I felt like True the the Game part two was a waste it just seemed too fake and adventurous more than realistic like the first one Terri should have just ended with part 1 which I loved
LIKE WHAT I SAID OF BOOK 1, I'M SOOO GLAD THAT I READ THE ORIGINAL SERIES BEFORE THE BOOKS WERE RE-WRITTEN AND ULTIMATELY MESSED UP FOR A MOVIE THAT APPEARED CHEAPLY MADE. I DIDN'T LIKE THIS BOOK AS MUCH AS I HAD BOOK 1, & HERE'S WHY...... ONCE GENA FOUND THAT APARTMENT NOBODY BUT QUADIR KNEW ABOUT, DISCOVERED THAT HIS EX-GF WASN'T LYING ABOUT HOW QUADIR CARED ABOUT HER BY DISCOVERING THAT QUADIR HAD BEEN KEEPING A VERY IMPORTANT SECRET FROM HER WHEN SHE'D CAME ACROSS A PICTURE OF HIS SON BY HIS NOT SO EX- GF/BABY MAMA. GENA HIRED A LOCKSMITH TO BREAK INTO THAT SAFE WHERE SHE CAME ACROSS ALL THAT MONEY (THAT QUADIR'S FORMER PARTNER SAID HE HAD SOMEPLACE HIDING), THE SOLE REASON WHY QUADIR RETURNED FROM THE GRAVE (ACTUALLY, FROM SOME DOCTOR WHO HAD BEEN HIDING HIM INSIDE HER MANSION & HAD FALLEN IN LOVE WITH HIM AND HIM INLOVE WITH HER, THEY WERE PLANNING A LIFE TOGETHER WITH GENA THINKING THAT QUADIR WAS DEAD)MADE HIMSELF KNOWN (AS AN ASSHOLE!) IN ORDER TO GET. GENA VERY UNWISELY GOT HER SPEND ON, NEARLY HAD GOTTEN KILLED FOR THAT MONEY FROM SOMEONE SHE'D TRUSTED ONCE UPON A TIME, &STILL GRIEVED A MAN WHO WASN'T SO DEAD, UNBEKNOWNST TO HER. I STILL FELT LIKE QUADIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN TO HAD STAYED DEAD & TERI WOODS SHOULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT HIM BACK TO LIFE, BECAUSE ALL QUADIR SEEMED TO CARE ABOUT WAS HIS MONEY THAT GENA HAD. EXAMPLE: QUADIR DIDN'T GO TO GENA'S GRANNY'S HOUSE TO LET HER KNOW THAT HE WAS STILL ALIVE; HE WAS OUTSIDE OF THAT SECRET APARTMENT THAT HE'D HID FROM GENA, WAITING FOR A GOOD TIME TO GO IN 7 RETRIEVE HIS MONEY SO HE COULD RETURN BACK TO THE FEMALE DOCTOR WHO SAVED HIS LIFE AND HAD FALLEN FOR HIM & H9IM FOR HER! UPON REEKING HAVOC ON EVERYONE-INCLUDING SICKLY DOING SO TO GENA'S GRANNY 'GOT-GET',JERREL MADE HIMSELF ACQUAINTED WITH QUADIR'S GF GENA, IN AN EFFORT TO GET REVENGE AGAINST QUADIR FOR KILLING HIS BROTHER TERREL. AN UNDEAD QUADIR WATCHES FROM A FAR TRAILING GENA IN AN BMW, MAKING HER THINK THAT SHE HAD A STALKER, INSTEAD OF HOPPING OUT OF THAT CAR, LETTING HIS GRIEF STRICKENED GF GENA KNOW THAT SHE HAD NO REASON TO GRIEVE FOR HIM ANYMORE, THEN ASKING HER WHERE HIS (ONLY TRUE LOVE) MONEY AT, QUADIR STAYED IN HIDING, WHICH LET ME KNOW RIGHT OFF THAT HE NEVER LOVED GENA LIKE READERS ARE MISLED TO BELIEVE! GENA FOOLISHLY HAD GOTTEN INVOLVED WITH AND IMPREGNATED BY JERREL, AN ARCH ENEMY OF QUADIR, & FROM THE S*X SCENES ALONE, GENA SHOULD'VE KNOWN THAT THAT WASN'T THE MAN FOR HER. SHE DISCOVERED THIS WHEN AFTER ONE PARTICULAR TOO DETAILED S*X SCENE SHE WANDERED IN THE BATHTUB OF A MOTEL & MADE A HORRIFIC DISCOVERY OF BUCKETS, TAPE, SHOVEL, & OTHER EQUIPMENT THAT SHOULD CAUSE ANYONE PAUSE AND CONCERN, ONLY TO BE STARTLED BY THE FATHER OF HER UNBORN CHILD: JERREL, WHO BEAT HER TO A PULP CHOKED HER UNCONSCIOUS, & SHE HAD BEEN RESCUED BY ....(AN IN TOWN FOR HIS MONEY) QUADIR!
Gena found the money and Quadir's arch rivalry Jerrell, which he told her his name was Jay, ended up with Gena, and she truly liked him but she didn't know he had his ex Champagne to check her out and she found out that she was Quadir's woman. Since he was just getting out of jail he didn't have any money to live on and he saw Gena as a way to come back up since he knew Quadir had millions. Gena found her an apartment to move out of his apartment, so he took her out to dinner and to a motel so Jerrell fell asleep and she went to the bathroom and in the bathroom she found chains, acid, cement and a bag of money. So Gena started thinking that he was going to kill some one and since she was the only one around she feared for her life, but when she opened the bathroom door he was standing there, waiting on her, and she knew she had to fight for her life. She was really fighting him and had made it to the door when she opened it, it was a shadow standing there and he shot Jerrell in the neck and stomach and pick Gena up and got her out of there. You have to read the book to find out the rest. I really enjoyed this novel with all the excitement that kept me wanting to read more. Now on to "True To The Game lll
I read this book so fast because it was so good. I honestly think this was way juicier than the first. In a sense I understand how Gena didn’t know Jerell because she is a hustler’s wife and they tend to keep their wives separated from that street stuff or either the wife be too caught in the luxe life to fully comprehend who’s involved in the streets with her man. But at the same time she should’ve still did her homework on Jerell instead of just jumping to get with him to dampen her hurt over Qua. Jerell was one sheisty motherfucker!!! He didn’t care about nobody but himself and his money. Skip was totally right about him, he demanded loyalty instead of earning it and that’s probably why his brothers didn’t hold him down. He was too cocky and thought he was god. And the storyline with Rasun and the cops was genius!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 It was so accurate because that’s how it really be too. Smh it’s always a snitch in the crew I don’t care how tight you are with that person or shower them with loyalty😒💯. But the ending was to die for. MY BOY QUADIR IS BACK!!!!!!😍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾I just can’t wait to devour part 3 and figure out what’s going to happen at the end

It's crazy because knowing that quadir passed away or whatever that case maybe leading on the part 3 , anyways if gena had love towards quadir knowing he passed I felt like they shouldn't have done or word things they way they did and I felt like gena knew who jerelle was I mean she seen jerelle so many times on the first one so for you to fall in "LOVE" to somebody that was an enemy or that shot the man you was in love with and that also married you it's crazy and also if I was to write the book I would make it seem so real to as an "Ik who jerelle is he killed the love of my life and also Ik he's tryna get at me because I have quadir's money but no I'm not going to talk to him or any of that nature in plus I still love quadir and he's still the love of my life . So what I'm tryna to tell y'all is that who ever written the book should have mad it sound real but over all like if I agree with me on this one in the book was GREAT !!! I LOVE IT
And they all start tumbling out in this part of the trilogy!
Gena's new man of life and all her family secrets are enough to keep you on the edge alone. When you mix in secrets from the streets that certain characters have to carry, revenge of a brother scorned and the driver of a mysterious BMW that is always everywhere, you find yourself unable to look away, too afraid you might miss something!
I couldn't remember if I had read this one before, but from Gena's walk to the gas station in the very beginning it all came flooding back and was certainly worth the second read. I can't wait to dig into part 3!
I read this book several years ago, but one night looking for something to watch on television I discovered they had made the first book into a movie so I decide to re-read the trilogy. If your a fan of Donald Goines then I am sure you will enjoy the read. Part II is about Gena learning to cope with the loss of the love of her life Quadir. Due to Quadir's status of retiring from the game prior to his death, word on the street is that Quadir left several million behind. So Gena is not only grieving the loss of her love but also learning who is out to kill her for the millions they assume she has. The book ends on a cliff hanger...Is Quadir really dead?
Gena and the rest of the crew are back in "True to the Game II". Gena's dating a hustler named Jay,and seemingly loving every minute of it. The war between the Junior Mafia and rival crews is still raging on, with no end in sight. Gena's so in love that she doesn't recognize that Jay is Jerrell, her ex's biggest archrival. Will she find out the truth? Can the Junior Mafia stay on top of the game? Will Gena be caught in the crossfire? Read it and find out!
The ending.. just wow. Book two was literally a lot to take in. No one could be trusted. Someone was stalking Gena; then she met Jay and he went on a killing spree. It was mayhem. Nevertheless, I found myself unable to stop reading. I felt bad for Rasun, he really turned on his crew and in the end didn’t get to enjoy freedom. Cold world! Good read but too many characters and a lot of emphasis on the drug cases.
