Three novellas. Two interlocking stories. One sizzling read from #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks.
Nice set one spirited woman in Kit Townsend, and two hot buddies, Ryder and Mac, who take turns giving Kit what she needs. It's the perfect no-strings triangle and while it doesn't exactly follow the rules, neither does Kit. But when love unexpectedly throws these three friends for a loop, can they still have a happy ending?
And then there's Mia Malone, a sweet Dallas girl who had big dreams for the future when she first met Texas Ranger Logan Kincaid. That fairy tale was a lifetime ago. Today, framed for drug possession, she's forced to work undercover at a strip joint where several working girls have disappeared. Then in walks Logan—her protector, savior, and lover.
Maya Banks is the #1 New York Times, #1 USA Today and international bestselling author of over 50 novels. A wife and mother of three, she lives in Texas.
I love Maya Banks. That being said, I wanted to love this book but I just couldn't. It is three interlocking novellas, the first two belonging to the same story, just from different perspectives.
The first wasn't terrible. It hopped right into the action and I liked the perspectives lent by Kit and Mac. I was however missing out on Ryder's thoughts. (much to my eventual disappointment) I got this in the second novella. Every. Single. Sentence. He said ended in "darlin'" I drove me mad! I ended up just skimming it to get through.
The third was a little better. Neither character really grabbed my by the throat and got me invested. The ending was more then a little rushed, but by that point I was just happy to be done.
Overall I was pretty disappointed with Ms. Banks and why I am one to read ad re-read books 10s of time, this will not be one of them!
For Her Pleasure is actually an anthology of three related stories, but the first segues into the second and those two, at least, should be read together.
This book's themes include menage and dom/sub relationships, but the conflict in the first two stories centers around three lifelong friends and the emotional angst that arises when one of the men, Mac, seeks to establish a one-on-one relationship with the woman, Kit.
Kit wants that relationship with Mac but she also wants their mutual friend Ryder. Banks does a very credible job of focusing on the emotional turmoil for all three characters. The stories contain lots of graphically described sex, but ultimately, the reader will remember the emotion and the relationships.
In the third story, a friend of Ryder's, Mia, finds trouble in a small Texas town where everybody from the local judge to the sheriff's department are corrupt and involved in a sex slave auction operation. Fortunately, old flame and older man, Jack, gets wind of her working as a stripper and arrives to claim her as his own slave.
Again, Banks focuses on their relationship, not the sex (though that is frequently and graphically described).
The plots in each story are well-developed and credible, the characters have emotional depth, and the pace is quick and consistent.
After reading Maya Banks' Colters' Woman and Seducing Simon, as well as books by Shayla Black/Shelley Bradley, I've come to the conclusion that what one can expect from these authors when their books are published by Samhain (good stories, but plot-lite) vs. their books published by Heat Division of Berkley (longer stories, much more depth) is like swimming in a lake vs. the ocean. I like getting hit by those big waves. Much more drama!
I've yet to pick up a book published by Heat/Berkley that isn't destined for my keeper shelf. For Her Pleasure is no exception. I give it four stars because while it's a book I'll probably reread and recommend, it's not a book that will 'haunt' me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I gave three stars only to the last story. The rest? Naaah.
There are three stories in this book, part one and two are about Kit, Ryder and Cam.
Kit's been in love with Cam and Ryder since forever. But when both of her favorite guys gone without taking her, she's devastated and her misery leaded her to another misery. She was assaulted. Now her guys are back, they determined to win her back. Will they succeed?
And the third story is about Ryder's friend.
When Jack vanished, Mia's lost. She loved him and apparently he didn't loved her back. It's been two years and Mia tried to forget him, only to find that he's back. And to make things even worse, he knew where she work: Strip club.
I didn't realize that when I purchased this book, there's a story about BDSM. I'm not into it, so I find myself skipped a lot of pages. I'm aware that this book's about menage though.
I don't really like it. Still, the stories really presents Maya Banks signature and the angst is killing me! But again, I don't dig it. I even find that Kit girl is annoying. Maya Banks's menage story really is unbalanced.
Kit love Mac yet she wants Ryder too, when it was obvious that Ryder didn't like the idea of sharing. Yet she still walk her way to make her wish to own them both come true and make them pushed back their own feelings, even though it didn't mentioned in the book. Kit's so selfish I want to slap her.
But Mia's story win me over. I liked Jack despite his stupid stunt. I feel bad for Mia and what she been through is scare the daylight out of me. :/
Overall, this book did disappoint me. But I still love Maya Banks. Always.
I read this in one day, which usually means I really like the book! I stayed up late to finish it, but totally worth it. All the stories are connected but it was neat to see them in broken-up stories because they switched point of view, which helped the story suck me in.
I loved the characters and the sex scenes were HOT...especially the threesome scenes. The last story (about Mia) was my least favorite, but it was still very good. I didn't love Mia as much as Kit from the first ones...but these are yummy, delicious men's men, so I sure enjoyed that part!

I’ve had this book sitting on my bookshelf for years. I bought it because I’ve enjoyed some of Ms Banks other books, namely Colters’ Woman. As we begin to set up this new blog, I figured I’d tackle some of these books I own, but never found the time to read. To start off, the blurb on this book is a little misleading. What the reader doesn’t know when getting this book is that the story is actually broken into the novellas. Each can kinda stand on their own, but they are definitely connected and should be read in order. The first two novellas are about the Kit-Ryder-Mac triangle and the last is Mia and Jack. Mia gets introduced in the second story as Ryder’s friend. So let’s start with Kit, Ryder and Mac. The three grew up together and then the boys left town after high school to well, grow up. But they left Kit behind. When this story starts, they’re all back in their small town in Texas and Kit is recovering from rape and is being stalked by her unknown assailant. The three friends, who have each secretly been wanting and loving each other (well, except for Ryder and Mac… they’re just friends… there’s no m/m action in the book), decide they’re going to enter into a threesome. A couple things had me shaking me head. First was the mystery of the rapist. I thought it was too obvious for me as a reader. There weren’t enough characters introduced for it not to be glaring. And even though I know that Kit was traumatized by the event, it just seemed rather hard to believe that she didn’t recognize his voice when he would call or his handwriting on the notes. But, as I said, she was affected by the event. Which brings me to point number two. This book is taking place about 6 months following the rape and I found that Kit was pretty darn trusting . I know that Ryder and Mac are her two best friends and men she’s known and trusted for much of her life, but at the same time I would just think that she’d have more issues about what was going on in the bedroom with these two dominant men. Novella one is about the three getting together and Mac and Kit declaring love. Novella two, which is pretty much ignored in the blurb, probably because it could spoil things, is about Ryder trying to come to grips with the fact that he really loves Kit but doesn’t want to come between her and Mac, but also can’t continue their threesome. Obviously they have things to work out and Ms Banks throws in a couple twists and turns since the road to a happy ending can’t be simple. And then novella three is about Mia and Jack. Mia was Ryder’s shoulder to cry on during the second novella and now we get her story. This is where the blurb is really wonky for me. It talks about her working undercover and disappearing girls… well, it didn’t happen. Yes, she was framed for drug possession and in return for not going to jail she ended up working in a strip joint and as the story progresses, it goes downhill from there. She was blackmailed into being there. And not until they’re breaking up this sex-slave ring is it mentioned that Mia wasn’t the first to be duped. Jack is a Texas Ranger who disappeared the night after he and Mia first made love and now he’s back. She’s never gotten over him and surprisingly (to me at least) when he comes knocking on her door two years later, she welcomes him with open arms. I had several problems with this story. First, it wasn’t long enough. There was a lot that could have been explored and expanded on. In particular was the trust issue. I think Mia trusted Jack way too easily after being abandoned two years prior. And then Ms Banks alluded to the fact that Jack was a Dom, but outside of a scene where it was mostly for show, it wasn’t explored. And then due to the length, everything was wrapped up in a tidy bow was too soon. What saved this book for me were the steamy sex scenes. Ms Banks does know how to write a good menage… and the one on one scenes were enjoyable as well. But when putting these scenes in context with the book as a whole, I found them a little harder to believe. And mixed in with all the emotions that are explored (particularly within the men), it was smoking. I really wanted to like this book. But, as you can tell I had some issues with it. This is one of Ms Banks earlier novels and I think it showed in this book. But I do enjoy her books, so I won’t be giving up on her any time soon.
I thought this was a very sweet book with a TON of hot sex!! It is three novella's that all tie together, which I thought was a very neat twist. I am a huge Maya Banks fan and this book did not disappoint!
This book has 3 stories, the first 2 are basically one, where the last one is a slight spin off. I really enjoyed the first 2 more than the first.
The first 2 deal with life long friends, Kit, Mac, and Ryder, all who live in a small town. The guys left for a while then came back. They have been flirting around with a threesome but it didn't happen, then in the mean time Kit was raped. The guys didn't deal well with it, both feeling guilty they weren't there to protect her. When the story starts we are 6 months after the event and the 3 of them are still dancing around things.
Finally Mac can't stand it any longer and declares to Ryder that he isn't going to let this go on and that he wants forever with Kit. Ryder is more than shocked at this, but still up for the fun between the 3 of them.
The first story deals with how they set up this new aspect to their relationship, all the while the rapist is still stalking Kit. The 3 of them are dealing with just what their feelings are, with it seeming like Ryder is the one that is eventually going to be left behind.
It seems like only when the bad guy makes his moves does everyone realize just what their feelings are.
The second story is Ryder pulling back even though he realizes just how much he loves Kit, but he doesn't want to hurt his friends. Events happen that allow Ryder to be pulled back in, but when his friends need him the most he walks away again. This forces Mac and Kit to come to some hard truths.
And this is where the story gets really good. All three of them have to be brutally honest with themselves and each other in what they want. They all want to do the right thing and not hurt anyone, but it is hard when you have 3 people, unless there is a lot of give someone is bound to get hurt.
I loved the conclusion to these 2 stories, it was just what needed to happen.
The third story centers around a friend of Ryder's, Mia. She is a stripper in a near by town. When Ryder was hurting him and Mia forged a solid friendship, both of them hurt by people they loved. We learn just who (Jack) and how he hurt Mia right away. I hated Jack at this point and really didn't see any way for him to be redeemed. By the time I got to the end of the story I didn't hate him any more, but I still thought that Mia could have done much better than him.
I love Maya Banks writing in general but I think next to the Colters', this is one of my favorite from her. She definitely knows how to make the woman feel like the center of the universe whether with one man or three. There is a such thing as "too much" love scenes. When your reading an Erotic Romance sometimes there is just so much focus on the sex it's like reading a marathon of love making through the whole book. I really enjoy Banks writing because of the fact that there are always other things involved in her stories than just the sex, though her vivid description are great, she definitely keeps it exciting.
What She Wants: had the perfect blend of excitement, suspense & passion. Ryder & Mac are the perfect Alpha-males, as Banks heroes always are. And as always Kit was the perfect heroine. Banks has a way of making the heroine vulnerable without being weak and in need of the hero(s)without being needy. Her heroines are always pretty incredible woman with enough strengths in character to earn the attention of the heroes even while allowing her to be the damsel in distress. (If that makes sense!)
What She Needs: ties in quite nicely to the first. I love how she took two possible outcomes of what a three-some could lead to and basically made two great endings to one amazing story. And Banks continues to give you enough excitement & suspense to every story to keep you hanging on.
What She Craves: Another amazing read. I loved Mia and Logan as much as Kit, Mac & Ryder. And I loved there part in Mia's story. This one had even more excitement than the first two. I purposely look for novels that are part of a series because I loved to read about all the characters when they get there own story so you know them all as well as you do the main characters of that particular novel. These 3 stories flowed so nicely together. The only thing I will fault is Kit's behavior toward Mia in the 3rd story. To me that was a character weakness that Kit was being selfish and put her own feeling in front of Mia's safety. As if the poor woman hadn't been through enough.
I've never read this author before, and I must say I did enjoy this book.
The sex scenes were hot, and I thought that the feelings between the three protagonists (Kit, Mac, Ryder) blazed forth from page one. I didn't have to have a back story to understand that they've been friends and confidants for many years, which makes her complete trust in them more plausible.
As for the mystery of her attacker, it did need a bit more mystery, but it didn't detract from the story.
My usual romances don't include a ménage à trois, but they were written well in my humble opinion.
In book two, I liked how the author introduced the new character, Mia. It was woven in seamlessly into the storyline.
I must admit that the dual drama of Kit and Mac injuries so close together was a tiny bit much. They could have been separated into each of the stories. Mac's injury would have fit well into the first storyline and would have prompted the vacation at the beginning of the second storyline.
The third story, on the other hand, I would have liked as a separate book altogether. It had a different tone to it that didn't quite fit in with the other two stories. In the tradition of Diana Palmer (who introduces characters that later have their own books), I would have loved to have read the storyline between Mia and Jack in a standalone book.
The storyline had enough imaginative fodder for it with all the intrigue of Jack's work, the criminal activity, and how Mia had been sucked into it. This story was darker and grittier than the Kit/Mac/Ryder story. I did like how the author drew in the others into the story.
Love how this is a interlocking set of stories that continues from one set of characters into another. I wish there was a little more detail in regard to character background of Mac/Ryder and Kit and then again with Kincaid...though I felt sufficiently acquainted with Mia. I also would have liked a little more to each story...I felt like they kind of just dropped off. Even after entering into Mia's story where we were able to view more into the world of Ryder, Mac and Kit...it did not give any detail about where they were heading, how they would handle their lifestyle and/or if they would try to have a baby (again) and if so, how that would be manages in the relationship. That all being said, for what it was I felt it was a nice read.
Within this book are three novellas: What She Wants, What She Needs, and What She Craves. The first two are with the same main characters, continuing their story, which is a menage romance. Some of the same elements of these characters are the same as some of her other menage characters in other books. The third story involves a peripheral character from the second novella. Her story is not menage but is domination/submission. Were these novellas a warm up to the Colter novels? All the stories were spicy, simplistic mind candy that makes Banks a fairly reliable read. I read the ebook. 4/5
You’ll never know just how sorry I am that happened to you, darlin’. If I could take it away, I’d do it, no matter the cost. But at the same time, it doesn’t change one damn thing about you and me. - Ryder It doesn’t make you weak to admit you’re afraid. - Ryder Everyone loves someone, and everyone wants to be loved. - Ryder I made it too easy for you, and I paid the price. - Mia
Going with a 2.5 star rating. This was just pure spice. The characters all seemed bland and the storylines were predictable. I enjoyed how the characters all connected, but other than that there was nothing else to really keep me connected.
If you're looking for straight-up spice, then go for this book. If you're looking for my depth, then pass on this one.
What's wrong with Kit anyway? Sees two men who she thought they cared about her when all I see they wanted her for lust. And the slavery sex. What's hot with that? Nothing is hot about slavery sex.
Why five stars? Sizzling hot menage action, and a lot of it; sexy characters, and I'm talking about the females, of course; electrically-charged D/s; and even some action. This was just one of those erotic books you read for the sheer erotic pleasure of it. I got what I wanted.
E invece no!
i got this book from a goodreads give a way. this was a good book, but not something i would buy and pick to read myself. I am totally a smut reader but the idea of a girl being in a relationship with 2 guys at the same time is not my cup of tea. it is just like a love triangle in which you end up hating one of the guys.
this book has 3 parts. the first 2 parts go into the relationship stand point of the 3 way lol. the last part of the book talks about a girl that one of the guys in the first book meets.
in the first 2 parts goes into the detail of kit, ryder, and mac. mac is a police officer in the town that they live in and works very late hours. mac is in love with kit, but with kit's past he didn't want to upset her and lives with the fact that they are best friends. Ryder works at a garage that he owns because his father died and left him a huge chunk of money. Ryder and Kit are also best friends but share a similar dark past with their parents. Ryder also is in love with Kit and decides since he knows how Kit feels about relationships he will leave it at what they have. Kit is a girl who has a dark past with her family and is handling being rape by a stranger. Kit works as a waitress in a bar and has been reviving letters and messages from the man that raped her. she has not told anybody about these letters because she thinks that they will go away. Kit has been dying to sleep with mac or ryder but has been afraid to say anything.
one night Kit finally tells mac that she wants to sleep wit him. Mac says that is fine, but i would like you to be my girlfriend and sleep every night in my bed. well, lets just say that Kit ends up sleeping with both Ryder and mac at the same time. this goes on more months. Mac doesn't mind that Ryder sleeps with kit and him because they are best friends. well things will start to get good when kit finds out that she is pregnant.
Ryder deciedes to leave the two of them alone and seeks refuge at a strip club. he meets Mia. Mia has a troubled past and refuses to talk to anyone about it. she befriends Ryder and she becomes his confort to discuss his messed up life with her. they tried to sleep together but Ryder wasn't working. ( if you know what i mean!) what you will find out with Ryder, Mac, and Kit will leave you shocked and wondering WTF.
well the last part of the book goes into detail about Mia. Mia is involved with some messed up stuff. she was set up and now working for the strip club afraid if she quits she will go to jail. her ex boyfriend jack is a texas ranger and is under cover. she has not seen him in over 2 years. he comes back because he over heard that she is a stripper and that will not fly with him. he left her very badly 2 years ago so there is some hostility built between the two. jack ends up using his police power to help Mia in her situation. well, i am not going into the details of Mia's problem because it would ruin the book. just know that there is more suspense on the 3 part and very less sex
overall, this book was very good. there is a lot of sex scenes and even a good plot. i enjoyed reading this book. so if your a big smut fan this book is for you
This book is split into two stories; the first about three central characters; the second still revolving largely around the first three but introducing another one; the third, focusing on the new arrival from the second, with side appearances from the other three.
First off, I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did (and not just because it's erotica, you perverts :P). Though I'd picked it up by chance, the reviews all sung its praises, so I was hoping I'd gotten lucky, so to speak.
I enjoyed the first two stories. I admit the first was a bit confusing; we're thrown into the story with plenty of history between the characters, and Troubled Pasts are hinted at but never fully explained until later in the story. This is all well and good for a novel, where there's the chance to build up to it, but in this instance it just felt disorienting, like I'd dropped down in the middle of a story that already started. Still, I kept reading because I did want to know more. The first story came to an end that didn't quite wrap up the entire emotional conflict and left room for it to grow, which is why I was pleased when it continued--and came to a pretty solid conclusion at the end of the second story, if it was all a bit fast-paced and melodramatic.
The third story, though, zapped whatever enjoyment I'd gotten out of the first too. As if the weren't enough, this one went way over the top. It almost felt as if Banks tried to cram an entire Harlequin novel, drama, romance and all, into one short story, as she'd done with the story arcs of the last two, only this time she forgot she only had one story to do it in. As a result, while the drama was high, for me, the believability suffered. I was already a bit squicked out by the opening scene, but it just went downhill (or uphill?) from there. Check. Check. ? Check.
I tried to get past that, but the increasingly outlandish plot hindered my enjoyment of the last story. Still enjoyed the other two, but that last impression by the final story was hard to shake.
I really can't label this an anthology because even though it is three novellas, it's more like a three-part novel with the same characters...Mac, Ryder, Kit, Jack and Mia. All set in the same crappy south Texas town, all set within the same few-months time frame. I love pretty much anything Maya writes, so of course, I liked this one as well, but you can REALLY tell that this was one of her earlier works. Above all, and I know this is nit-picky, but I have never seen so many anal sex scenes with no lube. And such a blatant disregard for condoms, especially with Jack and Mia. The story was really great. You so rarely get to see a menage develop like this where one of the guys decides he wants the girl for keeps and it takes the other guy a while to catch up. It was really, REALLY different and refreshing to read. There were no FSOG aspects to it. The action in Jack and Mia's story was really compelling. This book kept me up until 5 am reading, so it definitely held my attention. The settings in the small Texas town were very descriptive, and while I can't for a million years understand why Maya sent them to GALVESTON of all places (seriously, Maya, you're a Texas girl, you know Galveston is gross!) it was very descriptive with the talk about the seawall and the muddy waters, and to me, setting is really crucial as I like to feel like I am there with the characters when I read. Very, very hot, although the sex scenes could have really benefited with a nice big bottle of Astroglide. All I could think of when I was reading the scenes where Kit was getting nailed in the pucker was OUCH.
I was really excited to win the giveaway for this book! Maya Banks is such an amazing erotic romance author. This book contains even more for your money because there are technically three stores all rolled into one great book. There is a plot for every type of romance reader. It contains BDSM, Menage, and friendships developing into more. Not only does Maya Banks have a great gift for capturing the readers attention with hot, sexy scenes in the bedroom but she also captures the emotions and feeling of the characters so well. The first and second story involve three friends that are at a crossroad emotionally as to how to proceed into uncharted territory, meaning a ménage relationship that could make or break their friendship. Now I know a lot of people think ménage books are all about the sex and nothing else. Well, with this book that couldn’t be further from the truth. You can actually feel the emotional ties these three friends have with each other and the turmoil they go through trying to make the right decision about moving forward with the relationship. I don’t want to say anymore so you can read spoiler free. The third story gets a little bit more hot and heavy in my mind, but that’s probably because dominant men are more my thing. I just love a hot dominant male who knows what to do in and out of the bedroom. I really don’t want to say too much about the third story because it was my favorite and I read it without reading any reviews first, which in my opinion made it that much better.
Kit, Mac and Ryder have all known each other a long time. Kit ends up getting attacked and Mac and Ryder are a bit wary about going ahead with thier plans to sleep with her. It's not talked about much but Mac and Ryder perfer sleeping with women together, and dosen't take alot of convincing to get Kit interested. Once they all meet up at Mac's house one night the fun begins.
As the story progresses Part 2 finds us with Ryder's dilemia of not wanting to intrude on Kit and Mac's relationship. So one weekend after weeks apart Kit askes Ryder to go away with them. Ryder agrees. So the whole idea of a threeway relationship really worked in this story. There was love, lots of passion, mixed feelings, and twists tweaked the story just right.
Part 3 was a departure from Kit, Mac and Ryder and focused on Mia. A young girl(that Ryder often spoke to) that has a fixation on an older cop. Her story invovles a lot of twists and turns and the chemistry between her and Jack is believable. I esp. enjoyed the "master and slave" scene.
This is my first full length Maya Banks novel. I look forward to reading more by her in the future.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I received this book through first reads. Thanks!I always like to read books I never would have purchased on my own. I really don't think that I liked this book. I have never read a book with a threesome before and now realize I won't again. I thought the sex scenes were very well written but I just like sex between two people. I was really not into the way the guys treated the Kit like she was fragile and kind of spineless..make up your mind woman! Yes it would be nice to have two super hot studs ready to grant you your every wish but it got a little too much for me. I did not like anything about Kit she came off as weak and with not much personality. I do understand she went through a lot of emotional and physical trauma throughout the book but is it really healthy for her emotionally to be doing two guys at once? Lots of drama. Maybe I am over analyzing this book. If you like threesomes and hot sex this is the book for you. I do have to say the 2nd part of the book with different characters was better. But I had had hard time liking Jack. I would read other books by this same author just not the whole threesome story kind.
I love this book! This book was an attention grabber, emotional, sort of funny and I learned to love both men. Even though I loved Mac more than I did Ryder, I still loved them both for their protective sides and masculinity. I loved that Ryder had something in common with Kit and loved all the twists in the story. I also want to applaud Maya Banks for making it separate stories. I just couldn't leave the book. Then, she gave me WHAT SHE CRAVES and my mind goes: *BOOM*!
I loved Mia and Jack's story. Even though it aggravated me that Jack would do what he did to her and leave the next morning. Yet I wasn't less aggravated when she went to strip and didn't want to explain what she did to Jack, Granted he could help her. But I was happy with the way it all came together. the plot was brilliant. i loved every and each second of it, but I can't believe Kit would be such a bitch to Mia when she practically handed Ryder to Kit. Nonetheless, I loved this book and would recommend it to anybody who likes, a little spice in their novels. This would be great for them and you won't be disappointed. I promise ;)
Alright so not one of my favorites. It is well enough written but maybe just slightly too depressively seedy for my tastes. Too much incorporation of the big bad world. The starring females in these three stories are all technically sexually violated in one way or another and saved from that violation by the heroes in the stories and loved regardless of those occurrences. That is lovely and warm hearted and all but for me the circumstances it's just a little too depressing, dark and dingy for me.
Pluses: - Interesting cross over of 3 (2.5) different stories - Some great love/sex scenes
Negatives: - Dark story lines - very little fleshing out of main characters overall relationship and more focus on the immediate situation and where their relationship stands at present
My rating hinges on my personal tastes more than anything in this instance. It received 2 stars rather than one because I was able to finish the book (so I must have liked it enough for that at least), but I don't see myself picking it up again or remembering it to ever recommend it to anyone.
I won a copy of this book via a FirstReads giveaway.
I had previously read a couple of books from the author's "Sweet" series and was looking forward to diving into this one. Unfortunately, I didn't care for this book much at all and am only giving it two stars because I'm feeling generous after winning a free copy.
This book is composed of three short stories. The first story was the most interesting...probably because I wasn't sure what to expect. I initially liked Kit and Mac as characters, although the storyline was a little choppy and too rushed. By the second story, I was annoyed with Kit (who always seemed to be crying) and Ryder. There wasn't much in the way of storyline...just the characters' internal conflicts and some sex scenes. The third story was focused on Mia, who briefly showed up in the second story. Again, it was too rushed and I wasn't engaged in anything I was reading.
If you're looking for a good erotic romance or want to read something by Maya Banks, I would suggest skipping this and reading the "Sweet" series instead.

I really enjoyed the first two novella's in this book. The third, not to much. Though it contained characters that were throughout the whole book, the third book just didn't seem to fit with the rest. It may have been better to start with the third and then the other two. Maybe if it had been presented that way it would have been a foreshadowing of Mac and Ryder's character. That they were stand-up guys who were willing to put everything on the line to help ladies who needed them.
I actually was very sad when I finished the second book. I didn't want the story of Kit, Mac and Ryder to end. I do agree with some of the other reviews that Ryder's use of darlin' was a bit much. All in all, I hope Ms. Banks countinues to persue the characters in these stories as I would love to read more.
Well, the narrative was scorching. The blurb on the back cover does not mirror the story set-up. However, you can easily get caught up in the stories. There were times I found myself blushing. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to read hot scenes, but does not have issues when facts don't line up or plot lines are not fleshed out. I was ready to read about the sex trade in south Texas, which is very prominent, but, instead, we find out Mia was tricked into it, not investigating it.
I'm glad Maya Banks delved into the male characters' feelings and the reader could see how much they truly cared for Kit and Mia, respectively. Even though the men were interested in S&M, they refused to do anything without consent. Nevertheless, the novel was adequate and certainly better than the bodice-ripping novels that so frequently populate the bookstore.
Mac, Ryder, and Kit. Kit, poor girl-she paid the ultimate price for letting her guard down. Mac and Ryder both loved Kit, and Kit loved both Mac and Ryder...but only one suffered heartache out of the three once a relationship developed. Having to ignore/hide your feelings at the expense of others-I felt for Ryder. But love, it knows no boundaries-with trust, understanding, honesty, hard work, and comprise, love can conquer all.
I NEED MORE OF JACK AND MIA. Gosh, Mia. Poor thing. All the things loved, needed, wanted, and craved from Jack were the very same things that caused Jack to push Mia away. Causing them both heartache and despair-that's what happens when men assume they know what's best for women. Just stop! I'm glad he finally got a grip and I'm glad she finally stopped running. But yes, I need more.
