Great story, made all the greater because it's a true story. Good illustrations. The artistic beauty of the cave drawings struck me most. Certainly a great little book for early readers that combines the learning of reading with that of science.

This books is about the discovery of a prehistoric cave in France on the eve of World War II. Although it is told like a story, the characters and stories are true. Why this is shelved in my library's fiction section is beyond. This title would be perfect for "informational texts" or non-fiction books that read like fiction to satisfy NYC's Common Core Non-Fic Curriculum requirements. My 8 year old daughter read about half of it with a friend and they were intrigued. I don't think they would have picked the title out on their own, but it was good that they weren't bored once they began reading it.

A spectacular gallery of art, buried for almost 20,000 years, and the regular boy who brought it to light. The art of the caveman can still enthrall us.

Amazing discovery

I picked this book for my 12 yr old son. I thought the writing level is too simple for a middle grader. But I really like the content , and the way it is sequenced. It is informative as I never heard of this cave in France. I would recommend it for other children

Covers the 1940 discovery by 4 boys and a dog of the cave of Lascaux, France and the drawings there which are estimated to have been painted between 14,000 and 16,000 BCE. Each of the five rooms is described briefly with illustrations of some of the animals painted there.

A dog barks . His name is Robet . The person who called him is Marcel Ravidat. He is seventeen years old . Marcel and Robot are in a forest near Marcel's home in France . The boy and dog was hunting rabbits. In September 21, 1940 . Marcel and Robot and Marcel three friends were in the forest But robot found some thing very interesting.!!!

Fascinating reading for children in years 3 to 5

If your child is studying the Stone Age, this book would really help. Giving details about the incredible discovery at Lascaux, and giving info about why cave paintings are so important in our understanding of the past, this has been written at a level that most Year 3 and 4 children should be able to read and understand.
This series of books is well worth looking into if you want to help your child’s reading to develop ~ particularly during Lockdown.

Step into reading non-fiction are some of my favorite books to recommend to elementary students who are practicing perfecting their reading skills. Discovery in the Cave is a nice example of an entertaining and educational book in this category that should be in every primary classroom or library.
