The pheromones made it possible to track the vixen to lair, but it also wreaked havoc with their sex drives-which no one had counted on. As squad leader, it was Raven's job to keep a cool head, whatever the circumstances, but the ease with which Nika decimated the control of his squad members was unnerving enough to make him wary anyway. The woman was dangerous!
You know I am very familiar with this author's work. I know that a good 3/4ths of the time her books end abruptly. But this one was just unacceptable in that department. It felt like there was only about a third of a book here. What there was was great. Good world building. Good relationship development. But the relationships were not developed to the point where any sort of outcome was guaranteed. At this point there was a whole lot of maybes and adjustments and just plain stuff that needed to happen. Then there was this epilogue where you basically felt how the F*** did the characters get to this point?
If KO would like to write the intervening scenes I would be happy to buy this book again and read the whole thing. I want to read the whole story not just an interesting meet. Which was basically what this was. So much more survival story and relationship story could have been here.
The potential this book had was immense. You're saying to me that after 200 pages of running from the government and wanting to destroy it they do nothing???? Suddenly she does not want to do anything related to that and accommodates herself in a valley??
So what happened after? The government stopped looking for them? What about the rebels? This has so many plot holes and the sex wasn't even that good lol.
I stayed till fucking 5 in the morning reading this, I'm tired af and it wasn't worth it.
After breaking into a company to steal corporate secrets as part of her latest job, Nika accidentally let's loose the company's cyborgs and blows up the building. What she doesn't realize is that she's just stolen information proving that the "cyborgs" aren't really cyborgs and that the company has been engaging in illegal experimentations. Now the company will do anything to kill her and the escaped "cyborgs" to prevent their secrets from getting loose.
Meanwhile, the "cyborgs" themselves want to find Nika to discover what she was up to, but also because they can smell her pheromones and it is wreaking havoc with their sex drives. Initially captured by a unit of four cyborgs, they soon begin to believe the things she tells them about the company, while simultaneously coming to terms with their burgeoning drives to protect Nika--their one they desire as mate. Another great sci-if, ménage story from Ms. O'Connor (under another pen name Alyssa Hart). Highly recommend!
06/02/2013 Re-read - Still really liked it. I guess I periodically need a Kaitlyn 'fix'.
FIRST READ: I ran into this little gem in an email of new books from New Concepts Publishing and $4.69 later, plus a conversion from .pdf to .mobi and I had it on my Kindle 1. Loved it, because it is a book with echos of Madelaine Montague and Kaitlyn O'Connor... same writing style and expressions. Oh! I find out that this is one of Kaitlyn's 'pen names', so of course I like it. ;-)
There is smex, but not that much, considering some things I have read where there are 15 pages devoted to one encounter, and it's pretty sweet stuff anyway.
The guys are really hunky sweeties and take good care of Nika. The ending made me feel so good, I still have a smile on my face.
I notice more books listed under Lyssa Hart, so I will probably be buying all of those as well. :-)
I really didn't want to give this rating but there were so many small issues that the story wasn't cohesive in my mind. It seemed like some interesting ideas were thrown together instead of solid world building. Some things were explained but the order was out of place. This was chaotic. The heroine is so emotional that it was exhausting to read her thoughts.
Haha, I knew right away this is another one of Kaitlyn O'Connor's pen names, which I have surprisingly not read before. It was a great read, if not for the abrupt ending, but that was to be expected. There was also a lot less "talking in head" thing going round in this book, which made the story flow much smoother than others I have read by her.
Why do these women always have to internally question everything!? I liked the men and the fact that they literally said what was on their mind, I kinda liked Nika, she wasn't as bad at the internal thinking than some other MCs. I really enjoyed the concept of these characters and the world building. I would have been happier if it was a little longer.
Not recommended. This felt like a rushed first draft looking for an editor; there are typos and other errors, the whole cyborg/hybrid thing is both shocking and expected (to the characters, the reader is indifferent), and the ending is abrupt, to say the least.
after seeing this book on my recommended list for months, I finally decided to try it. the plot isn't too original but the details were interesting. the anal sex without lube was a bit disconcerting though. to me this book falls into the "average" category.
