Drenched in blood and sweat, Sir Torn is thrust before the healer known as Honey Wine that she might prepare him for the brutal Entertainment to come: a slave—Torn—fighting another slave to the death for the depraved ruler's amusement.
The new slave's arrogant nature piques Honey Wine's interest in more ways than one. Against her better judgment, she begins to notice him as a man. And begins to suspect that he is so much more than a slave...

You know what, I actually like this story and I'm interested in the other(Knights of Ruby Order). This story wasn't great and it wasn't bad, but yet, it was good enough for me. I think the way the author chose to do the story, peaked my interest.
The moment the story starts, Torn is captured and held for the entertainment of the Mistress of Sophianna. While he is held captive, we don't know much about him because he does not talk or communicate in any way. And for me that was one of the reasons that I liked him a lot. We are told his physical appeal and what he's doing but he never talks. I almost felt like I wanted to wear a shirt that says I heart Torn, for all the fighting he does in the arena. Honey Wine tends to the prisoners' wounds in Sophianna and is also related to the Mistress of Sophianna. She always detaches herself from her surroundings and the pensioners, even though she hates what is taking place. When she meets Torn, she has an uncontrollable desire that she try to deny, but yet find herself drawn to him. As the story goes on both Torn and Honey Wine forms a bond that helps them both through their time spent at Sophianna's dungeon. This leads to finding out more about Torn and his (Knights of Ruby Order)brothers.
As I said, I like Torn, in some tiny ways, his character reminds me of a book I read years ago called Born in Sin and it's leading character, Sin. Honey Wine was usual but still very much sweet character. The thing I will say, was when these two said I love you, it made me think that was quick because it felt like that moment went from 0 to a 10 really fast.
Honey Wine is suffering a punishment healing wounds in the dungeon when she encounters the beast to be, Torn. He´s been captured by the ruler, Honey Wine´s half sister, to champion in the Entertainment, a gladiator fighting where only one survives. Can they help each other? Is there a HEA there? Erotic romance with a historical touch.
**SPOILER** and since i´ve read it, of course there´s a HEA. Would i read anything else? =)
I´ll continue with this series because i want to see Blaze have his HEA, too.
Interesting story. The falling in love came pretty quickly, though. But I guess that's to be expected with such a short story. I'm curious to read the story of the other guys.
Torn was taken prisoner and forced to battle for the Entertainment of a sadistic ruler, the raven-haired Queen. Being a Knight from the Ruby Order, he only fights for good.
The queen's sister, Honey Wine, is not immune from the cruelty of her sister and is forced to work in the prison as a healer for the "beasts", the ones who are forced to fight, because she spoke out against the Entertainment. She had lost hope until she met Torn.
This story was a very sexy and thrilling ride amidst the brutality of the queen. I enjoyed both Honey Wine and Torn and their strength of character. Hill really created a fantasy world that was filled with rich characters and tension filled scenes not to mention some very hot scenes.
I liked the characters of Honey Wine and Torn. That fact that Honey Wine (yeah the name get a lil irritating)was the captain of the Guard before being banished to heal the Beasts (mean, stolen and forced to fight til the death). Torn is from the Ruby Order. The Ruby Order are warriors, but they don't fight for pay or in any war. They fight for people in trouble.
This book was eneteraining. The story was well written. The scenes with Honey Wine and Torn were hot.
Would I buy the rest of the books in the series? I don't know. I may pick up Blazes book Which I believe is the 4th in the series. He intrigues me. And I would love to see the women who could understand him and help him temper the spirits.
I liked this story enough to want to read another from this author. I really like the cover art. This writing was smooth. I did feel that the story was rushed at the ending. Both main characters were likeable. The sex scenes were predictable. Torn was a strong male character that I think I could like ;o)
It was just okay. I thought the book took a more erotic turn very early on and had crude wording at times. I couldn't figure out the story behind the Knights of the Ruby Order for the longest time and am still not sure I fully grasp what they are about. A weak start to a series.
