This charge nurse and helicopter pilot bring a new twist to flight risk…
Single mom Kenzie Calhoun has returned to Burkitt, Texas, and the Aces High Ranch determined to build a loving home. She has a new position as a nurse on an air medical evac team, a house to remodel, and a whip-smart six-year-old daughter to raise. After a disastrous marriage, the walls around her heart are high. There’s no room for another mistake in the romance department.
Major Deke Hayes takes pride in his air evac helicopter service that assists area ranches, including the Aces High, during roundups and predator removal. In his spare time, he flies emergency calls for the local hospital. But his call sign, Lone Wolf, says it all: his trust issues mean he flies through life solo, too.
That is, until precocious Brooke Calhoun, with a penchant for climbing trees and a fondness for sprinkles on cupcakes, can’t help but bring the two adults together with her antics. Will Kenzie and Deke see that sometimes walls have a way of crumbling in the face of second chances?
Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!). Debra's real pride and joys, however, are her son, an aspiring film actor, and a daughter with aspirations to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (more story ideas!) When she isn't busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance...Janet Dailey's Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles...and sighs... to all who believe in happily-ever-after's. I received this arc of The Texas Cowboy’s Rescue in exchange for my honest review. This is the third book in the Texas Heritage series by Debra Holt. It is another entertaining read by this author. This story features Kenzie Calhoun and Deke Hayes that we were introduced to in the first two books of the series. Kenzie is the cousin of the 2 Burkitt sisters that we met in the previous books. Deke is the half brother of the Hawkes brothers, also met previously. The Burkitt sisters are married to the Hawke brothers. He has come to Burkitt to start up his air evacuation company. He knows the brothers he never knew live there too. Kenzie has returned to her hometown as a single mom with her 6 year old daughter Brooke. She is a nurse who has recently been assigned to a temporary position with Deke’s company, flying on the medical evacuation trips. Kenzie knows Deke is her boss and therefore, not someone to have a relationship with. He is very businesslike and somber, not exactly a temptation for a romantic partner. Deke has recently left the military along with his dog Ranger.
Kenzie’s daughter Brooke meets Deke in the hospital cafeteria while she steps away for a business matter. The two bond over sprinkles on cake. Their family have dinners and parties that both are invited to and end up getting thrown together despite their plans to not get involved. Then, Deke ends up offering to teach her daughter to dive after she tells him she wants to learn. They set up a schedule at their family’s ranch pool and start doing other things together. Brooke develops a friendship with his dog Ranger. Both Deke and Kenzie realize they have developed feelings for the other. There is a lot of chemistry between them.
I really have enjoyed this series and this book was wonderful. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Kenzie and Deke develop. They seemed to complement each other. Their character growth was sweet to read as well. Both were very genuine and likable and I had a lot of empathy for their past histories. I enjoyed the rapport with Brooke and Deke as well as with Ranger. There was some good angst as the reader wondered what would happen with the couple. It was fun to have the inclusion of the couples from the prior book as well. I recommend this book and series and give it 5 stars.
We are back in Burkitt, Texas with the latest addition to the series. This one belongs to Kenzie Calhoun and Deke Hayes. Kenzie, a single mom, cousin to the Burkitt sisters, recently moved to town to be close to family. Her job as a nurse on an air medical evac team, brings her in close contact with the handsome pilot. But she has been hurt before and is not interested in any relationship. Especially since she doesn’t trust she won’t get hurt once again. Her boss, former military helicopter pilot, Major Deke Hayes, is also the half brother to the Hawke brothers, owners of Aces High Ranch. Both have kept their distance but it’s Brooke, Kenzie’s six year old daughter, who loves anything sprinkles, that brings them together. Can these two individuals who have been hurt by people that were suppose to love them, once more open their hearts ? Can they trust that they won’t be crushed? Will they finally realize that sharing one’s life with that special person can be a gift? Finding that person that will brighten one’s day and support one in hard times is worth the risk. This is a story about losses in love and trust. It’s also a story about family, new beginnings and second chances in life and love. I was entrusted a copy of this book by TULE Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I knew this book was going to be good when I picked it up. I have enjoyed the previous books in the series, so I couldn’t wait to start this one. I really liked the characters and the author did a great job on their backgrounds and current storyline. Kenzie works for Deke as an air medical evac nurse and she knows it’s not right to have feelings for her boss. But she still does. Deke is also fighting the same feelings for Kenzie. Because they have both had bad experiences in relationships, they hold back. It’s Kenzie’s little girl who seems to bring them together. She was such a fun part of this story. When it would get a bit serious, Brooke was there to lighten it up some. I also liked catching up with the characters from the previous books. Even though this book is part of a series, you could read it as a stand-alone. But I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you really know what’s going on with the other characters that pop up in this book.
The Texas Cowboys Rescue (Texas Heritage Book 3) by Debra Holt is a charming story of a second chance at love after losses with trust issues that came as a result. Single mom Kenzie Calhoun and pilot Deke Hayes work together in an air evac helicopter service for the local hospital where Kenzie is a nurse. There is an attraction which both try to ignore. However, Brooke, Kenzie’s young daughter is definitely a matchmaker along with characters from the previous books.
You won’t find two more likable characters anywhere but it is still Brooke and Deke’s dog, Ranger who not only steal every scene that they are in but also made me hope that I would see these two even more than I did. A wonderful story of family, taking a chance on new beginnings and forever love.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
From the reticent pilot who rarely shares To the charge nurse who doesn't trust but cares. This Texas based air medical evac team Have troublesome pasts, it would seem.
Both have been let down by past romance Will either of them give the other a chance? Well if six year old Brooke gets her way They'll both have lots more to say!
It is Brooke that really is the star of this book Breaking the silence, getting them both to look. This tree climbing, sprinkle loving tom boy Brings to this whole story so much joy!
A delightful, heartwarming and fun read, too, I really enjoyed it so highly recommend it to you. For my complementary copy, I say thank you, As I share with you this, my honest review.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.
A heart-warming addition to the Texas Heritage series. When I read a Debra Holt's book I don't think I could enjoy them more than the past books of her's that I've read but they keep getting better. The Texas Cowboy's Rescue was maybe up there with my favorite books of the year so far. I had a smile on my face a lot while reading it. There wasn't anything I didn't enjoy about the book the characters pulled me in right from the beginning, the storyline, setting and dialogue. This book sure was a win for me.
What a sweet story where both characters got a second chance at finding love. I enjoyed how Kenzie met Deke and he was able to prove that her first impressions of him were wrong. They both had trust issues from prior relationships that they would have to work through. I think Kenzie's precocious daughter really helped to bring the three characters together along woth Deke's dog, Ranger. I liked that this book had my heart pounding at times as I anticipated what would happen next and I was not disappointed. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I loved Brooke while she was a sassy 6 year old she had so much manners and I really feel like she and Ranger totally made this book. I was not a huge fan of Kenzie for most of the book I get she had her guard up because of past pain but sometimes she was just plain mean and it seem to not get better. I really enjoyed Deke he was the strong silent type and he had such a huge heart. I really like being able to catch up with his brothers and there wives from the other books in the series. They truly are such a big welcoming family and would do anything for those they love and care for. Over all the author kept this book a clean read and was a fun read.
Kenzie works with Deke on his air medical evac team. He is never friendly toward her. He just talks to her as needed for the job. That is until Kenzie's daughter Brooke smiles at him in the hospital cafeteria. When Kenzie sees him interacting with her daughter she is surprised at his friendly manners. Once she sees the change is Deke she wants to know his story. Both of them have a painful past. Slowly they start to share and build a friendship. They work together and fight the attraction. The more time they spend together their walls start to crumble. Once they stop holding back, will they be able to find their happily ever after. Good read.
Wonderful addition to the series by Debra Holt. First impressions aren’t always the right ones! Kenzie is a single mom and nurse on the trauma team. The Lone Wolf is the pilot of the helicopter for the trauma team, who is very hot (according to most women) but is quiet and seems to think he’s above others. Kenzie has to reassess her opinion when she finds Deke (Lone Wolf) laughing with her daughter at the cafeteria one night. She now sees the loneliness and sadness in his eyes. *I received this book as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
This was a great addition to this series, I it was my favorite! From the moment I began reading Kenzie and Deke's story I was hooked. They both had high walls around their hearts and they were not looking for a relationship. You throw Kenzie's daughter into the mix and the story takes us in a whole different direction. Their story was fun, sweet, serious and so much more. I absolutely loved everything about it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I just love Debra Holt's characters. They are so real and life-like. I feel like I would recognize them if they walked by me. The Cowboy's Rescue is fast paced and interesting. I love the interactions between the characters and watching Deke and Kenzie's relationship grown. Brooke, Kenzie's daughter is a precocious imp and totally lovable.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this story to pieces. Deke and Kenzie have long standing trust issues from past relationship failures, Their walls are very thick and slow to tear down. The help of Kenzie’s precocious six year old daughter is just the gentle sledgehammer those walls need. A very sweet story of two people destined for each other. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kenzie returns to small town Texas with her 6 year old daughter. Brooke, after a disaster of a marriage. She is the air flight nurse. Deke is the local helicopter pilot that doubles as the hospital emergency flight service. He’s not interested in a relationship until Brooke bonds with him and his dog. A cute romance that is a little predictable but a fun read. This is book 3 in the Texas Heritage series but is a stand alone read.
Another great romantic tale in Texas. Lots of fun with a young girl. Nice to revisit the characters from the previous books. Of course, this does read as a standalone just fine though. Some exciting moments since it does center around helicopter rescue service. I look forward to reading about more of the family and friends. Thanks to the author for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.
Why a great story about two people who had trust issues. Both Kenzie and Deke had been deeply hurt by previous partners. It took them a while to sort out their trust issues and find their happily ever after.
Very good & definitely a great addition to the series. Deke & Kenzie are a great match, both in their work life & quiet personal life. They’re both evading relationships because of an extremely bad experience but as they get to know each other trust grows & feelings grow as well. Add in a precocious 6 yr old little girl who has a way of wrapping everyone around her finger, getting into trees & not being able to get down or just being an adorable matchmaker adds an even more interesting & wonderful dimension to the story. Definitely recommend. I read this book for an honest review.
