I think this book was exceptionally well done. It is basically the Vietnamese version of the classic tale, Cinderella. The girl in this book is abused by her stepmother and is sent to do the work that no one else wants to do. Eventually a woman appears and tells the girl that she is indeed a princess. The girl eventually transforms into a beautiful princess and the prince falls in love with her. This book would be perfect as a way to compare the traditional Cinderella story to the same book from another culture.
This book was similar to that of Cinderella. It is about a girl who is treated like a servant by her stepmother, but still remains kind to others. The girl then gets transformed into a beautiful princess and falls in love with the princess. This book had nice drawings, and was a new spin on Cinderella. Overall, a good read.
The Golden Slipper is a Vietnames version of Cinderella. The classic tale of a step daughter being treated badly by her step mother and in this story Tam is the lucky girl who gets to marry the prince because the slipper fits her foot perfectly. This story is also known as The Brocade Slipper. The illustrations are bright and colorful and depict great emotion at times. This book would be great to use on a unit about the different versions of stories that are told throughout the world. This would also work on a unit about folktales. I would use this book with 3rd grade and above.
