About the author

David Ray Wilkerson was an American Christian evangelist, best known for his book The Cross and the Switchblade. He was the founder of the addiction recovery program Teen Challenge, and founding pastor of the non-denominational Times Square Church in New York.

Wilkerson's widely distributed sermons, such as "A Call to Anguish", are known for being direct and frank against apostasy and serious about making the commitment to obey Jesus' teachings. He emphasized such Christian beliefs as God's holiness and righteousness, God's love toward humans and especially Christian views of Jesus. Wilkerson tried to avoid categorizing Christians into distinct groups according to the denomination to which they belong.

Wilkerson was killed in a car crash in Texas on April 27, 2011.

A very practical look at where people's problems originate and how God wants to lead them out of their difficulties and bring them into light.

This is an extremely thought-provoking book on how to survive the times we are living in. David relates with the problems that we face as men. And at the same time, helps us realize that God is well able to deliver us from the things that hold us that we may live lives that are pleasing to him.

This skinny little book will kick your butt! No matter that it was written in 1969 and used phrases like "Holy Roller," "hippies," "beatniks," "wig out," "hung up" and "phoneys." (What is this, Catcher in the Rye!? These terms made me chuckle.).

But everything Wilkerson said was the absolute honest Truth. This book was completely Biblical and Evangelical. Even if some of it was hard to read! He challenges you to really look inside yourself and examine your heart. The chapter on Secret Sin was really hard to read, particularly where Wilkerson states "God cannot hear a word we say until we are ready to give up our secret sin." Could that be true? Because don't we all have sin inside us? We're human and we're fallen. And isn't Jesus our intercessor? Thank God for that or I'd be screwed.
