This is the 3rd book in the Kings of Denver series. Each book follows a different set of characters and can be read as a stand alone but to get the most of the series it is suggested to read the books in order.
Xander loves hockey, it’s been his whole life, but it’s not his dream. It’s his dads. From the very first MMA class Xander took, he knew MMA would be it for him. Now in Denver to play with the Dragons at his dad’s demand, Xander also finds a new MMA gym, where he’s offered a chance to fight and earn money so he can get out from under his dad control. But if he gets caught fighting, he could lose his spot on the hockey team, also resulting in being completely disowned by his father. Now add the new girl working at Micky’s that’s caught his eye and he has a very full plate.
On the run from an abusive, drug addicted, stepmother, Charli finds her self seeking out refuge. Which leads her into Micky’s bar where he immediately brings her under his wing. Charli is determined to make it on her own. Micky lets her work and helps her get started toward her dream of owning a hair salon. The Dragons are at Micky’s celebrating a win and she feels the pull to Xander before she even knows his name. Then a night out has her at one of his fights and him saving her from a bad situation, ending with him laying claim to her, which is only the beginning of their story.
Let me start by saying that when it comes to sports romances… MMA and hockey are definitely my top favorites, so to have them together 😍 yes please! I loved Charlie’s strength and determination to excel and move forward with her life. I loved how Xander also made her feel stronger. As for Xander, I really felt for him and all the pressure I’m can imagine he was under from his father. Then to go against something like that, I’m sure was stressful. I loved the connection between Charli and Xander. While this series is probably the lightest I’ve personally read by Sheri, I will say a common thread that I’ve enjoyed throughout these books so far is the utter devotion to each other with in every couple, as in no sacrificing the relationship for the greater good, etc. This was a great read proving you should always follow your dreams.
