I read American Passage: The History of Ellis Island by Vincent J. Cannato
where a good history of Ellis Island can be found, connecting abd expanding the information readers of Anerican history are familiar with.

This coffee table book provides photographic documents of immigrants and facilities of Ellis Island during its years as an immigrant processing center, its years of decline after the last immigrants left the Island in 1954, and the renovations of the center. These two books provide a better telling of the story together than apart. I recommendi reading either together or in tandem.
