Alaskan Heat #1

Northern Exposure

WELCOME TO GOOD RIDDANCE, ALASKA. A WILD, RUGGED PLACE WHERE MEN ARE MEN ... AND WOMEN ARE SCARCE!

Escaping the corporate rat race was the best thing Dalton Saunders ever did. Now he's living life at a breakneck speed as an Alaskan bush pilot, doing what he wants, when he wants. There's no adventure he hasn't experienced ...

Until Dr. Skye Shanahan rolls into town.

Skye Shanahan isn't quite sure how she ended up in Good Riddance. Sure, she needed some time to evaluate where her life was heading, but this is ridiculous. Luckily, she's only here for two weeks. She can handle it until then.

What she wants to handle, though, is Dalton. The sexy pilot has her feeling out of her element ... and desperate to get into his bed. And once there, she's not inclined to leave.

But when the time comes, will she be able to let go?

First, let me say this is how I show up at my desk every morning to write. Dahling, I couldn’t possibly write a word unless I was wearing 3-inch heels with a Martini at hand. NOT!!! But it’s so different, and face it, infinitely less scarey than the way I usually work, running shorts and t-shirt with a cup of tea nearby, that I had to put this picture up.

I’ve been an avid reader ever since I was growing up on a farm in south Georgia. At that time I dreamed of writing poetry while living in The Big Apple and traveling the world. Fast forward, bypassing lots of not-so-glamourous jobs such as barbeque joint waitress, telemarketer, and corporate numbers cruncher, to today’s reality. I write contemporary romance, live in The Big Peach (ya know, Atlanta), and I’m working on the world travel.

I actually live in the suburbs with my husband, daughter, three cats, two rescue greyhounds, and chihuahua who bosses the whole house.

Writing is one of the best jobs in the world and one of the most miserable–depending on which day you’re asking. However, obviously the best outweighs the most miserable or I wouldn’t be working on that next book. So, here’s the straight skinny on the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.

Heroine Dr. Skye Shanahan (from Atlanta) takes a job for two weeks (filling in for another doctor) in Good Riddance, Alaska.

Skye

Hero Alaskan bush pilot Dalton Saunders flies Skye to her destination.

Dalton

They seem to have nothing in common, she is a city girl, and he loves Good Riddance’s small town atmosphere. They don’t get on at first, but eventually sparks fly. What will happen when Skye has to return to Atlanta?

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the setting… the small town of Good Riddance. The characters were warm and friendly and some get their own stories in the following books in the “Alaskan Heat Series”. I liked how the people of the small town all knew, and looked out, for each other. Skye and Dalton made a good couple.

An entertaining read by Jennifer LaBrecque.

3 ½ stars – Contemporary Romance

This was a sweet, charming read about uptight Dr. Skye Shanahan, who comes to a quirky, small town called Good Riddance, Alaska to fill in for their local doctor for two weeks and finds everything she didn’t know she needed or wanted, in both the friendly townspeople and the hot romance she engages in with sexy bush pilot Dalton Saunders. It’s not quite as steamy as other Harlequin Blazes that I’ve read, but fans of shows like Northern Exposure, small town romances, series like Virgin River, and romance set in the wild, rugged beauty of Alaska might enjoy this. 3 ½ stars.

Hired as a temporary replacement for the local doctor in Good Riddance, Alaska, Dr. Skye Shanahan is completely out of her element, especially when it comes to the bush pilot, Dalton Saunders, who pushes all of her buttons ...

Skye and Dalton's opposites attract romance is engaging. It is fun to see Skye lose all of her inhibitions and come into her own in this delightful small town in the middle of nowhere. Dalton is a typical brooding male resisting temptation until he realizes that Skye is everything he always wanted.

My only minor nitpick is that Skye's

The philosophy of Good Riddance, Alaska: Good Riddance is where you leave behind whatever troubles you. That is exactly what Dalton Saunders did eight years ago. He walked away from his humdrum life as a CPA and his cheating fiancee for adventure as a bush pilot in a tiny Alaskan town. His new carefree, no attachments lifestyle seemed perfect until the smart and beautiful Dr. Skye Shanahan came into town and showed him what he had been missing. Skye meant for her stay in Good Riddance to be a brief two-week assignment as the town's substitute doctor while their regular physician was on vacation. Though unhappy at the direction her life had taken back home in Atlanta, Skye can not believe someone would just up and move to the middle of nowhere and start over. That is until the ruggedly handsome and charming Dalton makes her question what is truly important and whether she is strong enough to leave her troubles behind as well.

Northern Exposure was a sweet romance filled with a cast of delightfully quirky characters. I loved the idea of a tiny town in Alaska being a place to start fresh, even for someone like the prim and proper city girl, Dr. Skye Shanahan. There is great chemistry between Dalton and Skye from the moment they meet. Of course, it begins as a love/hate relationship. Skye, the sensible doctor, is certain that an untamed Alaskan frontiersman is wrong for her, and Dalton feels the same way. Little do they know they have more in common than what's on the surface. But, their sexual tension is intense! I had to laugh at the snarky banter between them. I found Dalton completely irresistible! Once Skye did some soul searching and realized what was missing from her life, she did too. (Secluded lakeside cabin in the Alaskan wilderness + Dalton = Bliss) Northern Exposure is a quick and fun read. It ended with a bit of a cliff hanger involving the town's displaced southern belle mayor, so I'm excited to see what happens in the next book!

This was completely enjoyable even though it was completely predictable. Both Skye and Dalton were likeable and their relationship was both funny and charming. I thought both of their background stories were credible. Even the obvious ending was delightful!! It was a fast, fun read!!

I enjoyed this holiday story about Chrismoose festival in Good Riddance Alaska. Chef Augustina (Gus) is concerned about towns visitor, travel journalist Nick. I could tell this was part of a series and felt I was missing something not having read previous books.

Really good solid romance. Great chemistry with the 2 leads. On to the next in the series. I really love some of these harlequin blaze books. They hit the spot sometimes.
