Megan studied English at university and then went on to write books for Usborne. She's now teaching English to children in a secondary school, where Usborne books make a regular appearance!
I paired Bats withe the fiction book Stellaluna by Janell Cannon. I paired these two up because in the book Bats by Megan Cullis it talks about how the bats see and night and different features about the bats that we all might not know. It talks about how they sleep during the day and fly at night and where they live. In Stellaluna it is about a bat who loses her way and finds herself in a nest of birds nest. She pretends that is is a bird to fit in to the rest of the siblings but al she wants to do is fly at night and hang upside down like we learn about in the nonfiction text. She later finds her way back to the original family and where they all like to do the same activities as her.
I would have given this a rating of 3, but my five-year old demanded that it be given a three. A basic book, very basic book, on Bats. The fact that my son likes it a lot and seems to grab it and "read" it himself does give the book a thumbs up valid credit that this is a children's book designed for children.
