This is a difficult book that it’s not very accessible to all. I was hoping it to be a biography and it is, but it’s more like something to read after you’ve already read a couple of biographies on St Thomas More (which I haven’t done).
The author, Fr. Bassett, pulls information from a variety of books about More and also More’s own letters. It’s like a deep dive into the psyche of the man and getting little tidbits all over the place.
The book was not super enjoyable until the last 30% but I have realized I’m not the target audience of this book it would seem I love the author’s audio recorded Ignatian Retreats he has led. He knows a lot about More and that is obvious. I have another book from him that I’m hoping is more accessible to me.
