Ok.... this is really not my type of book but as I was given a random bag of books to read here I am, reading this... also, according to Goodreads this is part of a series - all I can say to that is really?!?!

This book was in no way gripping, I never once wanted to know what was going to happen next because it was either obvious or I just didn't give a damn. The only time I found myself 'bulk' reading it was when I could see I was maybe 30 minutes of reading away from the end and I just wanted it to be over.

The characters are boring, there are plot points that are picked up and dropped all over the place, secondary characters jump in and out. The 'romance' is the thing that links many (MANY) other elements together but as the 'romance' is at best a long standing period of lust (I really don't think Daniel and Christine ever had opportunity to form a meaningful relationship) I did not like it.

There are also other elements I just hated - there is a kinda rape (I say kinda as the victim doesn't say no and apparently enjoys the act but the act is clearly forced upon them at first) and the female lead... I cannot think of another way to say this but she is ... well, has 'loose morals' at least. Daniel is about so she has sex with him, Gareth forces himself on her, when he is about she continues to have sex with him, but as soon as Daniel is back she has sex with them both within what seems like a day. Now, I read L. K. Hamilton books so I'm not 'against' women having multiple partners in a book, but there is a way of portraying the reasons behind it that I just did not buy into in this book.

Ultimately, I thought this was a dire book - but as I said, not my normal genre.
