This book was so lame. Too much repetitiveness, pointlessness and sugary sweetness. Definitely not Janelle Taylor's best. Basically it was an Oglala captive story the exact opposite of the Gray Eagle series. Caroline's experience as an Indian captive was too perfect and she was treated like a guest. the Gray Eagle books may have been over the top at times, but at least it kept me interested.
Free Kindle download. I loved all the detail in the Lakota people's way of life, and I loved that the main characters didn't go against their own values and get with each other before it was time. It got a little slow-moving at times, though, and all the repeated anxieties of the characters seemed to artificially add to the suspense, especially when it turns out they had absolutely no need to worry at all. All in all, it was nicely done, and it was refreshing to read a freebie that wasn't the start of a series but the end of one — my only complaint about that being that it was still too obvious it was part of series; even if I hadn't read it in the author's note, I would have guessed it by all the references to the other characters' other adventures, which seemed a bit much and unnecessary.
I didn't know this was part of a trilogy. There was a lot of background information that kinda got boring. I did skip through some of the book, because there was a lot of repeating and the characters kept questioning themselves.
The story of the trials the Native American suffered is well laid out in this book. However, because of the input of all the Lakota characters and names it was hard to keep up with the story in it self. She didn't have to bring so many characters into the telling of this story.
Too repetitive. Too perfect. Too whimsical when it came to the great spirit’s messages and her reason for being with them. Waaay too much soldier stuff and not enough romance. Every single romance part was identical. They meet and kiss then pull away. I was absolutely bored and skimmed through so many pages of war that already knew happened IRL.
Out of the Lakota Skies series, this is my favorite one by Janelle Taylor. It had more action in it than the first two books. I love Janelle Taylor’s historical novels. She writes so well that I’m drawn into the world she creates. I recommend reading her books. Enjoy!
It was mostly about the Indians and soldiers fighting each other.A white girl and Indian being in love .Diffient from her other books. No excitement in it .
