(Book 2 in the Earth Life series, a New Age teaching from 1986.

This book addresses spiritual development & specifically builds into an understanding of what telepathy really is and how to develop it. Awareness of our abilities & how we use them (as well as using our energy) is what will move you to the next level in consciousness. Not trying to force energy by mere repetition of affirmations (how to use affirmations is covered in the first book in this series) but how to really work with and lift your thoughts and emotions to the higher level. This takes practice and study. I highly recommend this-if you can accept a channeled teaching.

The wise heart embraces others with a feeling of compassion for whatever stage they are at in their souls' evolution; it approaches them with a feeling of love and oneness rather than judgement.

The challenge is to use your innate wisdom to see all situations from a higher perspective, to release the energy you do not want, and to come from your own center of love and compassion, regardless of the level of love in the people around you.

True healing involves compassion and love for both yourself and others.

I have three books by Sanaya Roman and found value in each one of them. All of them are more oriented toward the more experienced spiritual student. This particular title has loads of valuable wisdom in it, so I highly recommend it. Here's one of my favorite passages from it:

"Sympathy is feeling sorry for others, seeing that what is happening to them is negative or bad. Compassion is seeing that what is happening to them is for their growth, and assisting them in seeing that also. Compassion reframes an experience they may perceive as unfortunate or bad into something that they can understand. Realize that when you feel sympathy for people, you begin to vibrate with them and take their lower energy into yourself. When you come from compassion, you do not bring in their negativity.

Being firm with people may not be easy but it can be a greater gift than being the nice guy all the time. You have experienced friends to whom you give and give, who do not seem to appreciate what you do. If your offers of help are doing no apparent good, it is time to put your energy elsewhere. You may risk not being liked in the short run, but in the long run you will gain from following this higher wisdom."

A book about how to channel your energy and to develop an intuition. It is not a reading book rather than a practice book , as a reader should do exercises in order to grasp the whole benefit of it.

My favorite quotes:
"When you are judgmental or critical, you are most affected by other people's energy"
"Every time another person creates pain in you it is a gift. It is showing you an area in which your heart has not yet learned to be open."

This book is solidly in line with prevailing New Age thought; still, I think it has many valuable insights. Not that I agree with them all, however. Also, I'm not quite sure I believe that this is indeed a channeled work, as the apparent author, Sanaya Roman, asserts. The subconscious mind is an almost limitless repository of facts, concepts and theories encountered throughout life. This information can be accumulated due to life experiences, studying, and/or reading. Roman could simply have accessed this inner repository of knowledge, and so, in that sense, this could indeed be considered a 'channeled' work. In spite of my skepticism, however, I have found this to be a very interesting, profound, and loving book, one I greatly enjoyed reading.

The theme of the book is exactly what the title proclaims -- awareness brings personal power. What kind of awareness? According to Sanaya/Orin, it is the awareness of the unseen energies all around us. Through becoming aware of these energies, one can learn how to use them for one's own spiritual and material welfare. One can also help others achieve their own spiritual and material goals.

This energy awareness entails the use of empathy, as well as telepathy. According to the author, the 'sensitive' people mentioned in the title are those who do already sense these unseen energies, having been aware of them since childhood. However, the author also stresses that it's possible for those of us who have no special sensitivity to learn to become sensitive in this area.

There are many ways to sense energy -- one's physical senses are the primary ones. Using these senses involves becoming more observant of the people one is surrounded by. There are also mental techniques, such as visualization, that are helpful in sensing energy. In order to sense the energy of other people, it's important to come from a loving space. This is pointed out in a nice quote: "You can sense energy to the degree your heart is open and loving." (page 18)

The importance of 'releasing the true self', and 'being your higher self' are also discussed. In fact, these phrases are part of the titles for Chapters 7 and 14.

The book starts off with a greeting from Orin, then moves on to a general presentation about sensing energy. After that, it goes on to discuss understanding and directing the unseen energy that surrounds a person, as well as sensing energy in others. Subsequent chapter titles are self-explanatory: Chapter V: Who am I?, Chapter VI: Bringing the Unconscious Into Consciousness, Chapter VII: Evolving Your Inner Images: Releasing The True Self, Chapter VIII: Finding Your Deepest Truth, and so on. These and further chapters tie together the book's main theme with that of self-development, bringing the reader a comprehensive overview of both.

One of the nicest things about this book is that it's peppered with short quotes that are highlighted by appearing in large, bold italics in the very middle of certain pages. These are obviously meant to be pondered upon and taken as advice. Some of my favorites are: "As you open, it is important to develop wisdom, release pain, and rise above negativity." (page 6), "If you are in a difficult situation, broadcast love. Love heals and protects you." (page 22), "Awareness of your body, thoughts, and emotions allows you to discover the effect other people have on you." (page 30), "As you think over what you will say to someone, hold the image of your deepest truth, and practice loving ways of expressing it." (page 85), "If any area of your life is not working, one of your beliefs in that area needs to be changed." (page 95), "You can assist mankind in achieving peace by evolving your thoughts." (page 96)

Of course, this book emphasizes such New Age staples as creating one's own reality through positive thinking, and opening to higher guidance. The subject of transforming negative energy into positive energy is also dealt with; Chapter XI, titled "Handling Pain by Choosing to Grow", discusses the topic of how to deal with emotional pain. This is the one chapter of the book I had a real problem with, especially when I came across the following quote: "Pain is only triggered by another person when there is already pain within you." I do think that this is true, but only to a point. In my opinion, this quote could be used as an excuse for unacceptable behavior on the part of those who get their kicks from hurting and bullying others. Yes, pain can be triggered due to previous painful incidents in one's life, but that doesn't mean that the person triggering the pain is blameless. Hurting others is always wrong, and people who do so should be held accountable, unless they happen to do this accidentally. This type of 'advice', by the way, is one problem I've always had with New Age thought. According to this type of philosophy, no one is a victim; everyone chooses what they will experience in each lifetime, before incarnating in each subsequent one. Therefore, when you go through an unfair, abusive incident, it was you yourself who set it up, for the purpose of learning something from the incident. This kind of 'rationalization', to me, is completely absurd. Yes, I can see the value in not thinking of myself as a victim. However, that doesn't mean that I 'set up' certain painful situations in my life, before I was even born, just so I could learn something from them! That sounds rather masochistic to me. To clarify further: if children don't learn lessons through corporal punishment -- and I firmly believe they don't -- why would an adult learn through 'setting up' painful incidents for him/herself?

There are indeed aspects of this book that I think are very profound, and very helpful, even in the chapter mentioned above. One of these is the concept of learning how to deal with pain in a relationship without adding to the painful situation through an unloving response to that pain. Still, there are such things as boundaries, and some relationships are simply too abusive for people to remain in. Other aspects I find very useful teach the reader about controlling the mind, focusing on what one wants, and creating positive inner dialogues.

Another very helpful aspect of this book is the "Playsheet", a section of questions and exercises included at the end of every chapter. This is a great title, as it implies an invitation to let your mind 'play' with the concepts being taught.

The tone throughout the book is loving, comforting, soothing. Even when I came across something I could not agree with, I still felt very calm, very peaceful. Whoever is the true source of these teachings does indeed come from a very loving space. I don't think it's necessary to accept that this book was dictated by a discarnate entity in order to enjoy and profit from its gentle advice. I see it as a combination of traditionally-taught metaphysical concepts with standard ideas common to psychology and self-help books, and even some Christian thoughts. For example, the chapter on unconditional love, with its themes of being non-defensive, as well as forgiving, have a very Christian tone. This chapter emphasizes being the source of love yourself, rather than waiting for others to be the source. Another piece of advice in this chapter tells the reader that, although love brings beauty to everyone and everything, it brings beauty to oneself, most of all.

Summing up, I would say that this is a book to be enjoyed more than once, in spite of the objections I outlined above. Even the first time one reads it, it should be savored, its ideas analyzed and mulled over. Subsequent readings will yield even more insights, and you will probably find yourself actually studying it. Again, I don't agree with everything the author presents, although I would say I do agree with most of it. This book gives a reader much food for thought, and I would definitely recommend it, whether or not the concept of channeling is embraced by the person reading it.

“The first skill to develop for sensing energy is the ability to pay attention. Learn how to observe others by being silent. You know what it is like to sit back and watch. Observe any area about which you want more information without judgment or having any opinions or preconceived ideas about it. As you think intently about something, you will begin to receive guidance, ideas, and new thoughts about the issue.”

Yes, our brain is a powerful filter that molds experiences and perceptions of reality. If we think the world is a dangerous place, our brain is wired to hunt for evidence of danger. If we believe it’s a loving place, we spot more loving opportunities. What we focus on, we get more of. Those who are at times described as being too emotional or complicated are the very fabric of what keeps the dream alive for a more thoughtful, caring, humane world.

Our gifts of sensitivity include deep reflection and an instinct to see all angles and consequences. But by being so deeply tuned in to details, we are easily overwhelmed and exhausted by unyielding stimulation. And when we don’t understand why we feel and behave in the ways we do, it’s easy to frame these as flaws. :) What are you sensitive about? It’s perfectly OK to be sensitive though. When you free the energy used to hold yourself tight, you free the gifts of sensitivity that have been lost to you such as empathy, creativity, heightened joy, to name a few... And you allow your true potential to blossom.

This is four stars WITH the caveat that it is highly "woo woo" (written via channeled messages for crying out loud) and therefore not for everyone, but her first book Living With Joy had a huge impact on me and I've re-read it several times since. She shares pretty common principles about energy, abundance, attraction, intuition but in a very clear, direct way which I appreciate. Not a lot of case studies, dialog or fluff -- just good reminders on how to tune into our own intuition and energy to radiate positivity in the world, and for sensitive types like me -- how to buffer against becoming a sponge for negative energy.

Definitely one of the best and most useful books I have ever read! You can basically feel the good vibes coming out of the words.

If you’re someone who is prone to pick up other people’s emotions, but you haven’t had a clue on how to deal with this, this book will help you.
And it inspires you to work on yourself (and your mind), to be the best version of yourself and bring light and love into the world.

Switched to this cover edition since I hated the pink version lol. I was given this by my sister to read and put it off for a couple of months. Recommendation for all readers of this book: do a self-development or identity-building course, or maybe just go to therapy instead of becoming delulu. And instead of sensing energy, just learn how to meditate. Also, if you feel drained, angry or tired, maybe fix your sleep schedule or see a doctor. Or just read a book on mindset that doesn't require unlocking a higher version of yourself. Also even if this book was the content you 'needed' - it was very repetitive and dragged out.

Honest thoughts:
- this book has its own library (of congress???)
- does not surprise me that this was published in America in the 80s
- drink every time spirituality or you is mentioned or just change the words to magic lol
- "you are like a radio" (brooke you clearly didn't read this book or I would've heard your rant on radiation and how bad it is for you)
- since the bookmark is apparently meant to be where it is, I didn't move it don't worry sis
- the only smart quotes from this book: "... it is important to develop wisdom, release pain, and rise above negativity." and "spend time thinking of what you want rather than what you don't want."
- love does not heal and protect you (spoiler)
- fair point on don't feel responsible for everyone's happiness but not a revolutionary takeaway
- fair points on visualisation - again, not revolutionary, same with points on truth
- "pain is an indicator of growth" (maybe pain is sometimes just pain, sorry)
- compassion > sympathy (fair)
- the end was just bullshit

This is book two in a "new age" spiritual growth trilogy. I read book one many years (decades) ago. I remember book one as having some wise things to say about self-discovery, authenticity, and the power of gratitude. This book kicks that up a notch by addressing questions of personal growth through (and in spite of) pain and concepts of unconditional love for and throughout all of life's hardships. All good things, BUT -- and I cannot stress this enough -- do NOT pick up these books unless you are prepared to get your "woo woo" on (cue the spooky music.) For most people I know, these books are just too, too, too far outside the mainstream of traditional Western spiritual practice. (For example, the author claims that she herself did not write the books at all, but that she merely acted as a channel for a higher spiritual being to bring messages of truth and hope to the world. Your comfort level with that last statement is probably a good barometer of your potential comfort level with these books.)

There is a third and final book in this series, but I'm pretty sure my level of spiritual development is not up to that one. I'm still working on the whole "learn from your pain and love your challenges" thing.

I’m not generally a fan of self help books based on spiritual guidance, and picked this one with some skepticism. But this book has surprised me. It has some very useful and practical tips on how to use awareness and energy in our day to day lives.

This book was definitely life-changing. As and old soul this book opened me up to the beginning of a spiritual based life (If that even is a thing!) I recommend this to anyone who wants to deepened their understanding of the world around them and open their minds to live a more meaningful life. My original copy is so beat up with underlining, pen, highlighting, sticky notes and dog tagging. I just had to because everything on every page was just so relevant and were all things that I have questioned in my life but never looked into because of surroundings around me telling me what's right and wrong. I learned a lot about myself in this book and I think that anyone who is sensitive and spiritual should read it!

There's an amazing amount of wisdom in this book. Have you ever wondered why you feel drained when being around someone who is being negative or uplifted when being around someone who is joyful and funny? This book helps explain why and so much more.

Another Wonderful book of Sanaya Roman, and Orin. For me this book was the next step from the teachings of Abraham, by Esther Hicks. I am thirsty for all I can find out about Universal Laws and these books of Sanaya Roman really help me to quench that thirst. I absolutely loved it!

Very repetitive and dragged out, and didn't offer me anything groundbreaking or open my eyes to anything new...was just like most other self-help books 🙄😴
