Well, the trip to Cyprus is off... having decided it was really too much of a bother to get there. However, I did use this guide quite a bit in getting the low-down on Cyprus. I liked the "unvarnished" nature of the guide -- part of the reason I decided not to go to Cyprus, in fact, was that I realized it sounded an awful lot like Corfu. Not that Corfu is bad, mind you, but the prospect of hordes of Brits packed into seaside resorts just sounded rather depressingly familiar.

My husband (who has a conference to attend) will still be going to Cyprus, so I imagine he'll find this guide useful. I especially like the historical background and reading suggestions that always accompany these guides.

Although it contained a lot of information on places and the history of the island, it read as if the author had not visited some places and had just translated the information from a foreign text. It was certainly not written in plain English. The 2013 version comes out next month and I hope that this version is an improvement.

This is a regular travel guide. I don't think it is any better than the others.
