Origami meets the age-old art of swaddling in Baby-Gami and no longer does baby wrapping have to be an intimidating undertaking. Easy-to-follow instructions illustrated with step-by-step diagrams and unbearably cute photographs make it a cinch to execute flawless wraps. The first part of the book offers a variety of cocoon-like styles for newborns; the second shows parents how to create slings for "wearing" older babies. Once new parents master the basic swaddles and slings, they can branch out into more pizazzy terrain. Try the Picnic Wrap, the Glamour Sling, or the satin and tulle Gift Wrap. With advice from experts and real parents, tips on baby-carrying, baby-soothing, and a rundown of items not to wrap your baby in, Baby-Gami is a must-have for any new parent.
Some adorable babies, not all of whom look quite as delighted to be wrapped as the authors imply. I thought it could have had a wider range of wrap styles--many of the wraps were just variations of each other.
The humor made this very readable, despite having no child currently in wrap-stage. For instance, do not wrap a baby in newspaper, which contains unsafe inks and disturbing editorials.
We are preparing for baby number 2 so this was just a quick review for us. With number one we learned how important swaddling and baby-wearing is. She is now 20 months and still likes to be in a carrier. Can't wait to start again! This book is full of gorgeous pictures and babies. A very quick read for busy new parents to be!
A fun introduction to swaddling and baby wearing. Certainly not comprehensive, but it's a fine book to start off with. They don't mention any concerns about hip displaysia when wearing older babies however, which is something I will follow up on. I read elsewhere that certain positions are healthier than others for the hip joint.
I learned you can wrap a baby like a burrito. Just make sure you're not hungry when doing the burrito wrap. I also learned that Jesus is good at demonstrating how to wrap babies.
Awesome fun book! A great gift for new parents :) While you'll probably end up using just one swaddle that turns out to be your favorite, it's just plain fun to try out different wraps :D
