Stomping Out the Darkness

Rate this book
The pressure to look like the next cover girl, professional athlete or rock superstar can be intense for young people. Stomping Out the Darkness brings freedom with the reminder that no matter what we see when we look in the mirror, God sees something better. That’s because God doesn’t look at our faults and flaws. He accepts us for who we are right now, and He sees us as the people we can become. Anderson and Park show youth how to break free of all the garbage and negative thoughts that cloud their minds and how to discover the joy of being a child of God. On these pages, young men and women will discover that God has had a plan for their lives from the beginning of time—and, even though something went wrong with that plan, God has put everything back in order through Jesus. All you have to do is believe.

I read this when I was like 12 and it changed my world, honestly and truthfully. I actually have never forgot about this book and just last year bought it for my sisters 13 bday! It was huge in my growth as a teenager!!! Would suggest this to anyone and everyone

This was a hand-me-down as a Christmas gift from Y, who likewise had this gifted to her by someone else.

At first, this seemed okay, and I liked how it attempted to address why people are the way they are - what they have inherited from Adam, and what has been lost as a result of the fall from grace. Towards the next two chapters, it seemed a little "quick-fix" - just do these things, recite these verses and you'll be fine - good to know, good reassurances but surely things aren't as easy as that. Midway, I also felt that the language was a little too teenage to get through for someone my age - I wiki-ed this, and true enough, it turned out to be the youth version of another book. At the same time, it quotes verses by reference, not always stating the context or verse (usually just the reference, or at best, paraphrased), which makes it a little odd if catered to younger readers that it intends to reach out to who may not know their Bible that well.

Still, it was quite a good book as a starting point or framework of what the Christian life is like, but definitely not the be-all-and-end-all book. I'm quite sure I could find more books that would build up from the basics of this book.

I get more out of this each time I go through the book with someone. So much significant, life-changing content that it could/should be referenced regularly. Some key topics: identity in Christ, godly goals versus desires, handling rejection in relationships, maturing in Christ and helping others do the same, etc.
