Disappointed from the beginning because its typos on almost every page, I tried to get around them and found, initially, some truly good insights. Rogers' idea of educating the ordinary believing reader fell far too short far too many times, especially when on page 52, he emphasized, "The church is a building. And Jesus Christ is its foundation." I sure hope this was another typo!
Another error that persists throughout the book is that sometimes, Rogers seems to write that we initiate salvation by believing, while at other times, he says that G-d is the Author of true faith. He needed, too, to make a difference between faith and misplaced trust: that faith is G-d's gift, but many rely upon, and are led astray by, misplaced trust.
Along that line, he seems confused about sin: are we continuing to live in sin or are we being continually freed from it?
I would certainly not recommend this book for new or immature believers, but mature believers could benefit from it, because it has some great insights. I have marked many pages in my book with such words as "Excellent!" and "Good!" Please only read this "Day By Day" book, if you are a mature believer and are not what one of the leaders at my shul calls a "Gerber believer": one who just swallows whatever is fed to you. Be a Berean!
Finally, this is a real puzzler: page 378. Rogers writes: there may be mysteries and other things you don't understand, like the third toe on the left foot of a beast in Revelation...." What? Do I have a big hole in my bible-reading, or does Revelation really mention a "third toe on the left foot of a beast"?
