Bearing in mind it was written early (only scratching the surface in the case of the Bunnymen's long career), and that it's basically an expanded magazine article with lots of pictures, I still really liked this book. Its not tainted by the excessive reverence, myth-making and ridiculous posturing frequently found in current day book on pop/rock music. If you like either band, and used to read the weeklys religiously in the 80s, this book is for you!
Mark Cooper’s writing made me feel like i was back in my teenage bedroom, poring over reviews of bands i could only dream of seeing live in Melody Maker and Sounds. The personality insights are brilliant, and some of the photo captions are hilarious. A fascinating time capsule of the Teardrops devolution, Cope’s ascension onto an Archdrude solo trajectory, and the Bunnymen’s beginnings. Published in the same year that The Cure released Pornography! Darkly melodious and post punk funky times indeed.
