5 books24 followersAlejandra Guibert has been writing since a young age. Following graduation as a literary translator, she worked as a freelancer, mainly for Spanish newspaper El País. Later she joined theatre company Arte Livre for an extensive European tour of three years with the play Olhares de Perfil (Sideways Glance) as co-writer. The play won a Special Fringe First Award in Edinburgh Festival and took part in international theatre festivals throughout Europe.
She moved to London in 1989 and produced and directed several documentaries with First Take whilst dedicating time to her writing.
She has written for both theatre and film and her works include both prose and poetry, always with a strong feminist voice.
In 1999, she specialized in subtitling and worked as a Latin American Spanish subtitler for more than ten years.
Since 2008, she has been working solely on her literary work. The speculative novel The Vatican Games is her fourth book of fiction and the first in English. She has been living and working in Brighton since 2009.
Nací en Buenos Aires y escribo desde joven, gracias a la temprana influencia de mi padre, el poeta argentino Fernando Guibert.
Me gradué en 1981 como traductora literaria en el IES en Lenguas Vivas, Juan Ramón Fernández, Buenos Aires. En 1985 me establecí en Madrid, donde trabajé como traductora independiente para el diario El País hasta 1987, cuando me uní a la compañía de teatro brasileña Arte Livre para escribir en colaboración con Roberto Cordovani la obra Olhares de Perfil. Estuve en gira durante casi tres años con la obra, que fue ganadora del premio Fringe First Special en el Festival de Edimburgo de 1988 y participó en varios festivales internacionales europeos.
En 1989 me mudé a Londres donde escribí y dirigí documentales filmados en Inglaterra, Portugal y Brasil. Trabajé como subtituladora durante diez años desde 1999, mientras continuaba escribiendo prosa y poesía. En 2008 dejé la traducción para dedicarme de lleno a mi trabajo literario. He escrito narrativa y poesía, teatro y guiones de cine. Mi libro anterior, The Vatican Games, publicado en 2019, es una novela distópica pertinente a los tiempos que nos toca vivir, fue finalista del premio Foreword Indies Book of the Year Awards. La Mendocina, novela histórica publicada en agosto de 2023, es mi quinto libro de ficción.
