Florida’s lush Gold Coast lends an exotic backdrop to this dazzling tale of fiery sensuality and searing suspense from the New York Times bestselling author of Just Before Sunrise.

Mollie Lavender just moved to Palm Beach to start a public relations business and things are going swimmingly. So far, her clients include a dog, a ninety-year-old ventriloquist, and a grumpy astronaut. But when she runs into hard-hitting reporter Jeremiah Tabak, she learns that even a decade isn’t enough time to heal a broken heart.

Society parties aren’t Jeremiah’s usual beat, but there’s a cat burglar on the loose and a hot tip suggests his old flame is right in the thick of things. Seeing Mollie stirs up old desires...and new suspicions. Is it coincidence she attended every gala where the burglar struck? Jeremiah thinks not. The only way Mollie can prove her innocence is to help set a dangerous trap to catch the real thief. But Jeremiah’s touch triggers powerful emotions...and the next thing stolen might be Mollie’s heart.

Carla Neggers is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sharpe & Donovan series featuring Boston-based FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan, and the popular Swift River Valley series set in the small, fictional New England town of Knights Bridge. With many bestsellers to her credit, Carla loves to write now as much as she did when she climbed a tree at age eleven with a pad and pen and spun stories perched on her favorite branch.

Hardened crime reporter Jeremiah gets a lead to check out a possible jewel thief, Mollie, only to realize he'd had a fling with her 10 years ago. Old school lite romantic suspense with likeable characters although I didn't feel all that invested in them. The old broad society reporter was totally enjoyable.

Jeremiah's contact tells him that somehow Mollie is involved in the cat burglar thefts. She says she doesn't know anything about it and still holds a grudge against him for dumping her 10 yrs ago. When she attends a charity function she is attacked and her expensive jewel necklace it ripped from her throat. Is she again a danger magnet and unwitting pawn?

After Mollie gets a threatening phone call she reaches out to reporter Jeremiah who she still has feelings for her was her first and she was head over heels when she was 20. For his part he explains that he did it for her good so she would go back to Boston and pursue her life as she was only 20 and he was totally unsuitable for her. Now the mystery is why is anyone interested in her? Why the jewel thief in particular has her in his sights?

No descarto volver a intentarlo. Soy así de cabezona o masoquista.

Another Winner For Ms. Neggers

If you love mysteries, with a love story mixed in, you should love this fast-paced story of former lovers reuniting over a new puzzle they must solve before it is too late. And they must solve the mystery while trying to reclaim the love they thought they had lost.

Good book. I enjoy PI stories& this one was great. The mystery had a good twist on who it was. They definitely have done what magicians do- keep you focused over here so you don’t see the trick over there. One I wouldn’t sit down and read but good for listening to.

Good Story although the ending is a bit convoluted. There is a bit of steam throughout the story with a few Rated R moments.

WHITE HOT - Good
Neggers, Carla - Standalone

Mollie Lavender just moved from Boston to Palm Beach, Florida, to start her own P. R. Business. So far her clients include a dog, a ninety-year-old ventriloquist, and a grumpy astronaut. Her life is going swimmingly in South Florida -- until she runs into Jeremiah Tabak, hard-hitting reporter. Ten years should have erased her feelings for a man who broke her heart. But a decade turns out to be not nearly long enough.

A society party isn't Jeremiah's usual beat, but he can't resist a hot tip that puts an old flame in the thick of things again. This time it's a cat burglar on the loose. Seeing Mollie back on his turf stirs up old desires...and new suspicions. Mollie has attended every gala where the burglar has struck, and Jeremiah wonders if she's in over her head...or maybe she's the thief.

Even when Mollie teams up with Jeremiah to get to the truth, she's wary. His touch triggers powerful new emotions she can't control. As she joins him to set a dangerous trap for a burglar, what may be stolen next is her still-fragile heart......

It was a good read.

I absolutely loved this book. It was wonderful. It had all the suspense and romance that made it perfect. Not too much and not too little. It never dragged. I read through it quickly because I loved it so much.

Usually an author does their best work later in their career, Carla Neggers doesn't. Most of her later work has only been 3 or 4 star quality for me. I love her early works like White Hot, a romance with a really good suspense plot.
