Lipitor Thief of Memory

Rate this book
When Dr. Duane Graveline, former astronaut, aerospace medical research scientist, flight surgeon, and family doctor is given Lipitor to lower his cholesterol, he temporarily loses his short-term memory. Urged a year later to resume the drug at half dose, he lost both short-term and retrograde memory and was finally diagnosed in a hospital ER as having transient global amnesia (TGA). This is the "scary, appealingly written" account of his search for answers that his medical community didn't have -- the how and why of his traumatic experience, and what needs to be done to prevent the devastating side effects to body and mind from the escalating use of the statin drugs.

I have been taking Lipitor for a long time. I have had memory issues for a very long time. If the last few years it has been getting worst. After reading several articles, I stopped taking Lipitor about 5 months ago.

Now there has been one very important side effect that I did not realize. I have had two operations on my left food. I use to get terrible cramps in my foot in the middle of the night. my doctors said it was my shoes which they were correct on. Changing shoes help but only a little. I mentioned to my wife yesterday that I have not had a foot cramp since I stopped taking Lipitor.

The side effects are quite real. stains are not going to save you. Your diet will. Great book and very important that you read it.

An interesting and important read for people taking statin drugs.

The author, a medical doctor and astronaut, explains the frightening condition produced as a side effect of taking statins, Transient Global Amnesia (TGA).

Once believed to be a rare condition it now repletes the literature with cases reporting the condition. TGA is an end stage memory dysfunction, in which the inability to formulate new memories as well as variable loss of old memories occurs.

TGA strikes the statin user without warning, abruptly depriving one of the ability to formulate new memories.
Again, a must read for the statin users.

For many people, a book about a commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug (Statin) doesn't hold much interest - that is, until your doctor prescribes it for you. Duane creates a compelling argument against this family of drugs, and he backs it up with a host of well-researched reference articles and papers. So much of this research about the damage these drugs can cause is only coming to light now through the tireless efforts of people like Duane to stop them being buried by the drug companies.

If your doctor suggests you lower your cholesterol, have a read of this, or at the very least, do a bit of research of your own before you agree to take it.
