Three years ago when I started studying Hebrew (I am a Christian) this book was a tremendous help because Stern uses the original Hebrew in both the Old and New Testament, to give the reader a more complete picture of what life was like back then. Example, Jesus's name is Yeshua. Reading in this context, helps you see the realy Jewishness of him and his disciples, and really helps you appreciate the Old Testament a lot more! :)

Marvelous! Inspired! The Word, as presented in this format, has shaped my life like nothing else. And as names, events, places, and actions are presented in their original and proper context, several historical recordings take on a whole new meaning and are better understood... until, one day, we will see face to face!

The glossary at the back, providing the meaning of names, places, events, etc... in their proper, Jewish context, proved to be most helpful. The text, as translated by Dr. Stern, is presented in easy to read, modern english, the exception being the proper names, places, events... of which the wonderful, afformentioned glossary is provided.

I can't compliment this version of The Almighty's Word enough. If you would like an eye opening and life changing experience with longevity, this is it! Open the pages and receive eyes that see and ears that hear!

This is the best version I have ever found of a Bible other than a Scofield which are no longer in print.

David H. Stern has an exceptional gift as he writes his translations. Very in depth and the commentary in this are very good.
I highly recommend this one.

A brilliant translation by Dr Stern that reminds believers of our Jewish roots and that we were grafted into Israel by the blood of Yeshua. The Church does NOT replace Israel, but it is grafted INTO Israel.

Ok, I checked this out from the library because I had heard about it. Ewww. Stern puts Yiddish into his translation of the New Testament.
The Yiddish language did not begin until the 11th century and was not spoken by Jesus and the apostles.
If you want to do an entire Yiddush translation of the Bible, that would be one thing, but to throw in random Yiddush words is just bizarre. I was also not impressed with the translation itself. Besides throwing in random Yiddish words, some of the concepts in the NT are translated in a way that changes the meaning.

I LOOOOOVE this version of the Bible! The OT names get a little hard, but they are in the English transliterations, too. But the connection it gives to the Jewish culture, the culture that Jesus operated in, and the Jewish lens for the NT, especially with Yeshua Messiah fulfilling all of the prophecies, festivals, rituals, etc., that YHWH established for His Chosen people, makes me feel even more connected to my Savior. As a gentile, I am grafted into the True Vine of Messiah through trusting in Him (Romans 11) and I get to be one of Avraham Avinu’s promised descendants, amongst “The Chosen” as the Spirit cleanses and sanctifies me, and flows through me as I remain connected to my Deliverer.

This is I think the eight year that I have read completely through the bible. This year was the Complete Jewish Bible. I read a chronological version, which generally orders the daily readings in the order they happened, not when the specific book was written.

Having read it so many times, I enjoyed seeing the Hebrew terms for many things. English tends to wrap up everything in single terms, where in Hebrew you get Ruach HaKodesk for the Holy Spirit, to distinguish it from other spirits.

It may not be the best bible for a first-time reader, but for someone who is seasoned it's a good choice.

I totally appreciate this Bible to use alongside my NKJV. Stern opens up the Hebraic perspective that is lost on most church folk (me being one of those). The only caveat is that this is one man interpreting and sometimes we don't agree. But hey, this translation/interpretation as a supplement is worth its weight in gold for me and my family.

The Complete Jewish Bible is a great translation and helps you understand the Bible from a Jewish perspective. I enjoyed reading this Bible this year. You may have some trouble with the names of people and places as they are transliterated and not what you would usually see in most English Bibles.

The author contextualized a lot of the Old Testament and carried that Jewish understanding into the New Testament translation. I liked comparing this Bible with the other Bibles I use. If you are looking to see some of the culture and mindset of the Jewish perspective, this is a great Bible to refer to and read. I highly recommend you compare this Bible with others and see how the Jewish background and influence shaped the Bible times you are used to reading.

Personally, I'm more for word-for-word translations of the Bible while this one (if I remember the introduction correctly) was more thought-for-thought, but I have definitely enjoyed reading this translation of the Bible. The Jewish context given in this translation adds a breath of fresh air to reading the bible. Currently one of the translations I use for studying.

I have read this more than once, in its entirety. I am re-reading it for a 5th? time. I always find something new or see things in a different light. It is good to compare more than one translation of the Bible to get a more accurate picture. I don't agree this should be listed as Anonymous for the author. I believe Various Authors is more accurate.

I received this translation years ago from a friend who was a convert to Messianic Judaism. I have been willing to open it as a supplement to see how it renders a word; but I wouldn't use it as my main translation of the Old or New Testaments. I have encountered too many unexpected and peculiar translations of Hebrew (that is, disagreeing with every other translation I know).

Good translation But it is difficult to navigate.

I like it however the contents only open to the very first chapter of a book , if the book is a long one you have to turn page by page to get to the chapter you want to read.

Love this translation! It feels like a very close translation of the original intent of the author. This was about my 2nd or 3rd time through the Bible and I really enjoyed this version. I read this via YouVersion and got so much out of it, as is always the case when I read the Scriptures ;)
