Magic and Kings #3

The Pirate Queen's Captive

Rate this book
Assassins aren't supposed to be heroes.

It should have been a simple task: sail the ocean, dump some dangerous stones, and return to his daughter's side—only Jrijori didn't count on being abducted. Kind of embarrassing given he's supposed to be a renowned assassin, but he doesn't mind once he realizes who's taken him captive.

Zora never forgave Jrijori for trying to kill her father and fleeing. Now that she's a Queen without an island to rule, she's turned to pirating to make ends meet. However, what if she could free her home from the monsters infesting it?

Does she even want to?

She might not get a choice, as magical forces are at work, determined to use her whether she agrees or not.

Will she prevail, or will this pirate Queen lose everything?

Contains mature themes.

~ New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

This is book 3. Book 1 was more romance. Book 2 was more about monsters and a new couple that took their time. Book 3 takes one of the characters from book 2 and makes him the main character. Older character finding love? Nice.

Jrijori is an assassin. He is also trying to get rid of a jewel (has to do with monsters). He runs into a old flame he has not seen for ages. His one true love.

But Zora hates him. She used to be queen of this island, monsters came, and now she is a pirate.

Sea adventures, monsters, some romance, and a promise of more to come. I guess monsters are not done with this world. I am intrigued of what the next book could be about, and who would star in it.

A good continuation to the series. And a nice change with an older couple.

Narration worked well and it was easy to follow along and get lost in the story.

I had a headache yesterday and couldn't read. So I randomly picked this new release audiobook on my subsription and finished it in one go.

Did I have fun? Yes.
Was it smutty and romantic? Yes.

Will I remember it? No.
Was the plot logical and meaty? No.

Will I continue with the series? Probably not.
(Well, maybe with another headache some other day...?)

The Pirate Queen's Captive

This third book in the series tells the story of Jrijori, aka Rolle, who is captured by Queen Zora, the only woman he has ever loved. Will she believe him when he tells her the truth of why he ran away all those years ago, or will he lose her forever. Now with determination they will continue Jrijoris quest for destroying the jewels. A long time secret almost ruins everything. Loved it!

I listened to the audiobook for this one, and would advise you to do so too if you want to give this book a chance. As an avid fantasy reader I would say this story is neither original nor particularly good, but I did enjoy it in audiobook form. I think had it been a physical book I would have liked it less. Regardless, this was a nice, fun, quick read that had me entertained throughout. It’s simple, cute, dual POV and just a fun time.

Ok so over all I love this series. However, this was my least favorite book so far. The female MC got on my nerves she was too prickly and mean the male MC even after he explained why he left all those years ago. It also seemed like there was way to much going on in this book which was the common consensus of my book club.

Good book
I enjoyed listening to this book. Jrijori and Zora make a good couple. I like how he has never forgotten her and still love her. This is their adventure with another gem efrite bad guy. I like how they reconciled and he does a good job flirting with her. This was fun to listen to and it was nice getting a cameo from the MC’s in the first book in series. I recommend this book.

Long and boring. I made it to Chapter 7. This is supposed to be a fantasy romance, but there wasn't any romance--it was arguing between the two main characters on the same topic (you killed my dad...no, I didn't) over and over again with the occasional longing for the relationship they had in the past. Even the short battle with enchanted sharks was boring.

Unfortunately, this was my least favorite book of this series. Even though both main characters were older, it read childish to me. Maybe it was the man-eating crabs or the squid (octopus?) named 'Squishy' and kids of Squishy being named equally childish names.

This was another fantastic story in this fantasy world! Jijori has been a constant, so him getting his story was especially awesome. His back story was not what I expected; his current situation, full of adventure and intrigue (and magic!); and his love interest is more than able to match him in every way. Interesting characters, wonderful beasts, compelling story, and a pet giant squid named squishy, who could ask for anything more?!?!
