I highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to the practice of yoga. The author does a good job of not being overly wordy/long-winded, but keeps it simple. I especially appreciated her breakdown of the various poses and the manner in which they benefit the body specifically. I've been practicing yoga for nearly 2.5 years now and found this book to be a motivating read. At some point I plan to implement her suggested sessions into my own weekly practices.

I needed reference pictures of the poses I'm attempting, and this fits the bill--clear information about basic poses.
I began yoga classes about 9 months ago, but between scheduling conflicts and holidays, I missed far too many classes. I improved, but wasn't getting enough practice to progress as much as I wanted to. About two months ago I started using this book on days I couldn't get to class, and I've finally started to see real improvement.
One caution: Twining recommends holding poses for specific lengths of time. I noticed soreness in my elbows after holding the Chaturanga (Crocodile) pose for five breaths as she instructed. I continued following her instructions for several weeks, and the discomfort increased to pain. When I spoke to my yoga teacher about it, she advised me to modify poses that are too stressful. Twining gave the same advice, but I misunderstood, thinking that it only applied to sudden pain and fatigue. Because of the potential for misunderstandings, I think yoga books are best used in conjunction with some kind of class.
My mistake aside, this book has been a great help to me and very worthwhile.
