This old Time-Life book is just as interesting today as when it was first published (1980s). The author, an escapee from Hitler's Germany in the 1930s, describes both the Germany he knew as well as what were then West and East Germany. The book is often a memoir as well as a history, which keeps it readable well after the reunification.
