Tom Williams is a technology veteran with over four decades of experience leading private and public companies that profoundly altered the way we work, learn, entertain and interact.
The son of an auto mechanic and a bookkeeper, Tom grew up in Rhode Island with an interest in changing how things work. In 1968, he joined the Information Technology Department at the Community College of Rhode Island to lead in the design and development of automated grade reporting, class scheduling, and student information systems.
In 1978, the Memorex Corporation lured Tom to Silicon Valley with an offer to join its newly formed Communications Product Division as a Strategic Planner. After a five-year stint at Memorex, he concentrated his career in starting disruptive technology companies that received a number in domestic and international awards.
Besides being Chairman of the companies he founded, Tom held domestic and international Board of Directors positions, executive positions at Novell and Cisco, and is a Limited Partner in several venture capital funds. Also, Tom was a Trustee and Executive Committee member of a private school.
Today, Tom spends his time as an Independent Board Member, Strategic Advisor, speaker and author. Corporations, growth companies, startups and private equity firms engage Tom's expertise and retain him as an independent voice to gather thought leaders together to discuss and debate the impact and strategic value of technology in emerging markets that will deliver extraordinary productive and profitable outcomes.
Tom earned an MBA from Santa Clara University, a BS Business from Roger Williams University, an AS Computer Science from Community College of RI, and a Certificate in Data Processing from the Institute for Certification of Computing Processionals (ICCP). Tom also served honorably in the U.S. Army in the position of Drill Sergeant.
Tom is intrigued by the notion of providing an author’s platform that directly engages readers. One of the aspects of his novels is to include an Author’s Commentary chapter at the end of the story that clarifies the impact of the technology used in the story. He encourages readers to engage in discussions and observation on the technology referenced in his books.
Excessive focus on proprietary system TradeGuider rather than focusing on generalisation. This book is more of a marketing voucher for TradeGuider rather
Basically, the author is selling his software rather than share something with others. In other words, I don't see anything creative or new in this book, just some advertising.
scary but true. stock market cant be so simple as buy and hold...there must be manipulation driving the ups and downs...good exposure to a new world of volume spread analysis and volume based trading...
I could see this book being beneficial for both novice and intermediate stock market and cryptocurrency traders. It was easy to read, well-organized, and very thorough. It is essential to those who struggle to make sense of the chaotic manipulative world of trading.
The book talks about relationship between price, spread, and volume. Volume Spread Analysis (VSA) seeks to establish the cause of price movements, and from the "cause" predict the future direction of prices. The “cause” is the imbalance of Supply & Demand. The book describes Accumulation & Distribution and gets you a good understanding of essential terminology.
The information helped me escape the Fear of Missing-Out (FOMO) & Fear of Lose. I understood professionals have the patience & upper-hand in investing and use that to manipulate market emotions. By learning to read charts using VSA all is now visible. I can erase the emotion (impulsive) and trade better based on signals (less noise).
I love trading books that are not about trading... Tom williams gives his own views about tape/market reading. He bases his approach of reading price action in some of Wyckoff concepts of volume analysis. I know quite a few people that developed trading systems based of Tom Williams; some of this systems are as complex as quant trading and others are as simple as trading ONLY the concepts of this book (going long/short after a failed test, entering on limit orders after a stopping volume...). Anyway, I really enjoyed this book (minus the promotion of tradeguider part of it). I think it adds real value to anyone trying to understand market structure.
As every book out there, IT WONT MAKE YOU A TRADER. But I do think that if what you read in this book its "known stuff" or "duh!" to you, you are closer to being one.
I wish you all the greatest success in your endeavours. Thank you for reading.
