Glenn Cooper is an internationally bestselling thriller writer.

Glenn was born in New York City and grew up in nearby White Plains. He attended White Plains High School before enrolling at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he graduated from Harvard with an honors degree in archaeology. He then attended Tufts University School of Medicine and did his post-doctoral training at the New England Deaconess and the Massachusetts General Hospitals becoming a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. After practicing medicine, Glenn began a research career in the pharmaceutical industry which culminated in an eighteen-year position as the Chairman and CEO of a biotechnology company in Massachusetts. Glenn began writing screenplays over twenty years ago and his interest in movies prompted him to attend the graduate program in film production at Boston University. He is currently the chairman of a media company, Lascaux Media, which has produced three independent feature-length films. In 2006 Glenn turned his hand to novel-writing. A very fast paced, and edge of your seat book. The author has done an astonishing job in keeping the reader spellbound and wanting more. It was an enjoyable read and quite mesmerizing from start to finish. Don’t hesitate in purchasing this one.

Segunda parte de “La Biblioteca de los muertos”, donde el asesino mataba a sus víctimas mandándole antes una nota con la fecha y con un dibujo de una lápida…aunque eso es sólo la apariencia, ya que según vas leyendo se revelan que las muertes ya estabas predestinadas por unos monjes…
En esta nueva novela, el autor nos trae un nuevo problema, relacionado todo con aquella biblioteca, donde se verá implicado nuestro protagonista Will Piper, se encuentra un libro perdido antes del incendio de aquella biblioteca, un libro que tiene información relevante sobre el fin del mundo..
Una historia que te mantiene expectante del el principio, por un lado los agentes del gobierno que quieren por encima de todo mantener en secreto la existencia de la biblioteca y de este libro “perdido” y por otro lado tendremos a Will, que sabe demasiado y se ve metido en esta trama que para nada desea.
El autor también de una forma muy sutil hace una critica a la política, donde los EEUU oculta información a ciertos países y usarla para atacar, en este caso, a Venezuela y su régimen comunista.
Como en el anterior libro, Will será el protagonista, un personajes retirado, bastante sserio y grosero, que a mi hay momentos que me encanta pero tiene otros momentos que lo mataria..
La pluma del autor hace que te mantengas en tensión desde el principio, con una prosa muy ligera, con unos capítulos cortos y muchas veces alternando pasado y presente.
Y si tengo que decir que el final de la novela se me hizo algo mas pesado, y mas lento, recomiendo mucho la novela como un thriller histórico muy rapido y entretenido.

Nonostante i promettenti primi capitoli... Di nuovo la storia di Gleen Cooper non ha riservato chissà quali novità, suspense o colpi di scena.
Praticamente l'autore rivela tutto durante il percorso di lettura e a termine fa sembrare le cose come grandi rivelazioni
Sveglia, ci è già stato spiegato tutto nei salti nel passato.
Will Piper, il personaggio più egocentrico ed egoista che abbia mai letto. Un playboy incallito che all'età di pensionamento riesce ancora magicamente a far sbavare qualsiasi donna che incontri. Perfino quelle di età inferiore o uguale a sua figlia, pensate.
L'autore non manca occasione di descriverci quanto sia bello e affascinante e sciupafemmine. Cosa, a mio avviso, odiosa e ripetitiva.
Insomma, come secondo volume della serie non mi ha entusiasmata particolarmente. Dopo metà libro ho iniziato ad annoiarmi... arrivare al finale e trovare quello che sapevo già poi... Quindi? Cosa riserverà il terzo libro?

I ova mi je odlična kao i prva, Biblioteka mrtvih.. Opet malo prošlosti malo sadašnjosti, sve skupa uz zanimljive likove, akcije i utrku s vremenom..
Krenula s trećim i završnim dijelom, Čuvari knjižnice, a onda ide neki "sveobuhvatni" osvrt.

Ainda estive na dúvida, mas acabei por decidir ser generosa e dar as 4 estrelas, o livro agarrou-me mesmo!

Este livro não é só o "Will Piper 2", é mais propriamente o "Biblioteca da Morte 2". Ao contrário de outras séries policiais, em que cada livro conta uma história diferente, embora haja alguma continuidade no que se refere à história pessoal do(s) protagonista(s), este é mesmo uma continuação da história iniciada em A Biblioteca da Morte, pelo que convém ler esse primeiro.

Eu já tinha gostado bastante do 1º livro, tanto da história como da escrita, daí ter comprado este, que não me decepcionou. Algumas partes da trama são um pouco forçadas, como o facto de estarem envolvidas na história três das maiores figuras históricas do século XVI (o facto de os seus nomes estarem referidos na sinopse acaba por ser um spoiler, felizmente já não me lembrava...).

Will Piper é um bom protagonista e as suas peripécias são um excelente entretenimento, enriquecido pelos capítulos de ficção histórica e pela especulação científica no final.

Recomendado, claro!

I was on the fence with this one, but I was feeling generous so I gave it 4 stars, the book really grabbed me!

This book isn't only "Will Piper 2", it's more accurately "Library of the Dead 2". Unlike other "detective" book series, with each book telling a different story - although there's some continuity in what concerns the main character(s) personal history - this is in fact a sequel to the story that began in The Library of the Dead, so I'd recommend reading that one first.

I'd already very much enjoyed book 1, both the story and the writing, that's why I bought this one, and it didn't disappoint me. Some parts of the plot are a bit far-fetched, like the fact that three (!) of the most prominent historical figures from the 16th century are involved in the story (that their names are on the blurb is a spoiler, IMO, lucky me for not remembering reading that...).

Will Piper is a good main character and his mishaps make for fine entertainment, enriched by the historical fiction chapters and also by the scientific speculation in the end.

Recommended, of course!

This was a pretty good! More like a Dan Brown book (but better in some ways!) Everyone that knows about this secretive book, and that's not many, it after it! Why, it is the missing book in a set. The others were burnt long ago. This one survived. What is so special about this book? It tells you when you die! Or others! It was written hundreds of years prior. The history of how the book came to be is in here too. Great fantasy tale! Loved it! May read again next year!

I was reading this book to find out answers from the first one. I didn't know Will Piper would be the centre of the story again, I though he served well as an introduction to the world in the first one. He was a decent character with some flaws before but he was the reason for making me want to quit the sequel. A retired alchoholic cheating on his wife with a 30 years younger girl and putting his 1 year old son in danger, all because of a need for adventure. He was so repulsive, I don't know how I finished this thing.
Also, first half of the book was just retelling of what happend in the prequel. No subtle reminders, no. Just telling the same story again. And in the second half...the main characters finally find out something we knew already. Wow.
Crap on crap.
I will give the author this thou, he gives you just enough interesting details that make you curious about what happens next. Unfortunately, not enough curious to read another book about the asshole that is Will Piper.

A pesar de que “La biblioteca de los muertos” es un libro autoconclusivo, es recomendable leerlo antes de adentrarse en la trama de esta segunda parte de la trilogía.

En esta segunda parte de la trilogía nos encontramos nuevamente con Will Piper jubilado a la fuerza (debido al caso de “El Asesino de El Juicio Final”), casado con su compañera Nancy y con su bebé.

Nuevamente el autor combina extraordinariamente bien la narración en diferentes líneas de tiempo, unos capítulos en el tiempo presente y otros hacia el pasado, permitiendo comprender los sucesos que pasan en la actualidad. Además, tenemos algunos personajes famosos: Calvino, Nostradamus o Shakespeare, influenciados por la historia del libro.

"El libro de las almas" quizás no esté a la altura de su antecesor, pero mantiene al lector expectante, y el autor nos lleva a profundas reflexiones sobre la determinación del destino y nuestro libre albedrío para cambiar las cosas: ¿Está todo ya escrito? Y sobre todo, ¿por quién? ¿Quién determina que algo concreto pase?

En definitiva, es un libro para evadirse y pasar un rato entretenido, sin mayores pretensiones.

Bit of a disappointment to be honest. Once again, Glen Cooper has done his research and the tying in of Calvin, Shakespeare, Henry VII and Nostradamus within the story was quite impressive. The problem, I think, is that the author got carried away with the history. There's this whole middle section of the novel that is set in the 16th Century that just goes on and on. I was ready to open a vein. For some, this might make the book but, for me, it just raised the whole Dan Brown issue again. Dodgy, contrived faction (horrible word) instead of 'getting in with it.' This is a fast-moving, exciting story and when it concentrates on that, it's great. I know the research lifts it out of the Jack Reacher-like type of novel but you know, that's what it is! It's an exciting story that should rattle along and instead I kept feeling dragged down by unnecessary detail. Plus, by putting in so much historical fact (fact with a sack of salt) it had the effect of drawing the attention to the absolute implausibility of the whole idea. Sticking to the main thread and keeping the reader engaged would have avoided that.
Had to mark it down to two after all that.
I may have rambled a bit there.

¡Que entretenida saga!

Voy a la mitad del camino y me tiene intrigado. Creo que este libro da muy buen cierre y fácilmente pudo haber sido una bilogía. ¿Que habrá por decir en el tercero?

Es mucho mejor el primero, pero este es muy bueno. Es de esos thrillers sencillos y ágiles de leer. Aunque no sea un libro complejo, creo que cumple con su propósito: entretener.

Además me gustan los personajes, la ambientación que se le da, los tintes históricos, temas sobrenaturales, etc. Igualmente el gancho se maneja muy bien en toda la historia. Creo que está muy bien balanceado para ser una amena lectura.

Hasta este punto les recomiendo mucho esta saga. Habrá que ver qué opino después de leer “El fin de los escribas” que es el final de la trilogía. Realmente no imagino de que trata. Son muy pocas las preguntas sin contestar. (Que recuerde)

Glenn Cooper doesn't write great literature, but this one was as unputdownable for me as Library of the Dead, to which this is a sequel. It brings Nostradamus, Calvin and Shakespeare into the story of the death lists, Will Piper is as endearing a hero as he was in the first book, the solving of the clues is excellent, and there's an excellent breakneck speed conclusion. Load of tosh really, but I loved it.

La parte storica rimane la mia preferita! L'autore riesce a far respirare proprio l'atmosfera dei tempi antichi. Will, d'altro canto non migliore, anzi, forse è più cocciuto di sempre. La parte gialla non brilla, eppure questo libro si legge tutto d'un fiato!

Cooper porta per mano il lettore in un viaggio avvincente nel quale incontrerà personaggi storici del calibro di Shakespeare, Nostradamus e Giovanni Calvino, mantenendo sempre viva l'attenzione. Il romanzo scorre velocissimo ed è assolutamente all'altezza del primo volume della saga.

El Libro de las Almas retoma la historia justo donde la dejó La Biblioteca de los Muertos, con un margen de un año. Will Piper está jubiliado, aquello que ansiaba desde el inicio de la primera parte, pero de forma diferente, casado de nuevo, con Nancy, con el hijo de ambos y viviendo en Nueva York.

La trama continúa sigue completamente relacionada con la Biblioteca, pero en este caso en vez de buscar un asesino Will se embarca en la búsqueda del órigen del único volumen que no se encuentra oculto en el Área 51 y que han comprado dos ex-trabajadores del área 51 que forman parte del club 2027 y que tienen como finalidad averiguar que significa la fecha 9 de Febrero de 2027.

Esta parte me ha gustado aún más que la primera, quizás por la incorporación de figuras como Shakespeare, Nostradamus o Juan Calvino, que le dan aún una mayor importancia al volúmen, y te engancha más al origen de la Biblioteca. La trama es similar, Will tiene que huir de nuevo de la seguridad del área 51 y buscar una forma de volver a salir ileso de la situación. Estoy deseando saber como cierra la trilogía y si finalmente Will consigue su ansiada jubilación lejos de Nueva York.

Интересно ми беше как ще продължи серията си за библиотекарите чичо Глен. Явно и на него му е било интересно. Като гледам въпроса който си е задал е бил. Какво по дяволите се продава в момента, а не съм го вкарал в предишната книга? Отговорът явно е инфантилна игра на улики свързана с исторически личности, тип Дан Браун, антикомунистически заговор тип Форсайд и клуб на трети лица заинтересовани от библиотеката тип всяка евтина подобна книга.
Ретроспективната сюжетна линия този път е лъснала като пришка на гъз в средата на книгата (може би някой в издателството се е оплакал, че е прекалено сложно за изстрадалия читателски мозък да следи интрига в повече от една времеви линии) като цялото действие замира, за да може пенсионирания алкохолик агент Пайпър да си поиграе на лов на улики в средновековен замък и на скрий салама със английска студентка на възрастта на дъщеря му, докато жена му дондурка бебето им и умира от притеснения в Щатите. Апропо главният герой е един от най-гнусните шувенистични нерези пръквали се изпод перо и опитите му за рехабилитация са жалки.
Агентите на библиотеката (и бивши, и настоящи) се държат абсолютно инфантилно от гледна точка на професионалните си клалификации (което може и да е реалистично, но не стои добре в проза) само, за да угодят на слабите звена в сюжета.
А, авторския стил отново е много зле, там където няма гонки и пукница, а в тази част това включва ¾ от книгата
Ще прочета третата само за да видя ще има ли сатанински култ почитащ книгите с имената, защото не мога да се сетя за друго клише, което да не е включено до тук.
Пак няма да разказвам нищо от сюжета, няма смисъл. Ама тази липсваща книга около която се върти цялото действие, не се споменава в нито една от времевите линии в предишния том от поредицата и е много изсмукана, честно.

Entretenida segunda parte de la trilogía, aunque muy predecible en algunos aspectos. Novela ligera que nos hará pasar un buen rato, aunque está llena de personajes cliché, la trama es original y el autor hace partícipes en la historia a personajes históricos célebres como son Shakespeare, Calvino y Nostradamus.

En realidad empecé a leerlo en 2015 o así... pero se me atascó muchísimo. Digamos que el protagonista es para pegarle, muchas veces. Creo que hizo un retroceso en su crecimiento como personaje, desde el anterior libro, y esas cosas a mi me matan un poco. Así que no pude con él. Pero me decidí a retomarlo, porque el primero me gustó mucho.
Con el tiempo que ha pasado, no tengo tan fresco el primer libro, así que no me duele tanto el retroceso del protagonista... además de hacer como si no viera aquellas cosas que hace, que no son correctas. En claro, Will Piper es bastante capullo. Pero en fin. La historia es realmente interesante, y ahí es donde voy yo.
Tuve que releer las 60 páginas o así, que había leído ya, porque no recordaba los nombres de prácticamente nadie, aunque recordaba casi todo lo que había ocurrido. La verdad es que el libro te pone al día de todo lo ocurrido en el libro anterior, así como volverte a presentar a todos los personajes con toda la sutileza del mundo, no parece fuera de lugar. Así que no eché en falta releer el primero para saber de qué iba la cosa.
El primer libro iba sobre el caso de un supuesto asesino en serie y de cómo llegaba Will al conocimiento de los Libros. Había episodios desde los ojos de Will, desde el pasado, cuando se estaban escribiendo los Libros, y de los "enemigos", por llamarlos de algún modo. Esta vez, el formato se repite, más o menos. Sólo que, en lugar de cuando se escribían los libros, relata qué pasó tras el parón de los escribas y de cómo se separó un Libro del resto y lo que le pasó después al Libro y a las personas que se lo cruzaron. Y, en el presente, se enteran de la historia de los Libros. Así que, mucha novedad realmente no hay, porque casi todo ya se sabía desde el anterior libro, es más bien la tensión por la persecución de los Vigilantes y todo el tema. También se sabe la fecha de muerte o FDR (fuera de registro, véase, que no muere pronto) de varios personajes, así que eso podría quitarle tensión, pero, a la vez, no.
No sé, pese a que no aporta tanta información nueva como el primer libro, sigue siendo igual de trepidante y, sobretodo al final, no podía soltarlo de las manos, quería saber cómo iban a salirse de todo el embrollo.
Si he de ponerle una pega, es Will. Es demasiaaaaaaaado, cómo decirlo... Salta tan a la vista que está hecho para que lectores masculinos maduritos se sientan identificados con él, pero no por realista, sino por ver en él lo triunfador que quisieran ser, que me rechina mucho cada vez que "se conservaba bien para su edad", "todas las mujeres se giraban al verlo pasar", "dijo su nombre con voz aterciopelada", "por la forma en que lo miraba, estaba claro que estaba cautivada" eeeeeeeeen fin...
Creo que varios de esos comentarios sobran muchísimo (y cierto incidente en Cantwell, que, tela), pero en fin, les hago oidos sordos y hago un facepalm mental y au.

En fin, que me ha gustado mucho el libro y que me ha enganchado muchísimo. No he podido contenerme a guardar lo que me quedaba de libro para mañana... xD

In one of the interviews, Glenn Cooper said he never intended to expand his first book about the Library of Dead into a trilogy. It's a pity he didn't stick to his initial decision. This second book begins intriguingly, and the part of the "treasure hunting" in the old English manor is entertaining, but the whole plot lacks the true tension or the mystery. The author cannot resist the temptation of explaining all enigmas from the previous book and repeats himself unnecessarily.
The protagonist's unresistible charm is becoming not so much appreciable as annoying and it doesn't add anything to his character, while his decision of becoming involved in the new adventure which predictably will put in danger him and his family, is outright stupid.

Secondo capitolo della serie dedicata alla misteriosa biblioteca medievale occultata in uno sperduto monastero inglese. Risente in maniera ancor piu' evidente degli stessi difetti del primo libro (La biblioteca dei morti). La trama e' esile, gli incastri narrativi sono a dir poco inverosimili, cosi' come gli snodi sono caratterizzati da trovate veramente deludenti. L'impressione e' quella di un prodotto confezionato per un pubblico americano medio-basso, vale la pena di leggerlo giusto per amore di completezza.

La historia está narrada en tercera persona y protagonizada principalmente por Will Piper.

La trama gira en torno a un libro robado de la gran Biblioteca de los muertos. Se creará una especie de guerra entre Will y los agentes que trabajan en el Área 51 para poder conseguirlo. Esto me gustó mucho ya que la acción es continua y se vive al límite.

Por otro lado, tenemos algunos capítulos ambientados en el pasado donde los protagonistas son los herederos de cuidar el monasterio medieval donde se construyó la famosa Biblioteca de los muertos, trama principal de la primera parte de esta trilogía.

En esta ocasión, la novela es más histórica que policíaca, por un lado me gustó, sobretodo el tema de ir desentrañando pistas para descubrir nuevos secretos muy misteriosos pero por otro me resultó bastante aburrido ya que hay mucha información histórica que me saturó un poco. De todas maneras, el misterio y el suspense que envuelve a todo el libro me atrapó muchísimo.

En esta segunda parte el personaje de Nancy todavía me gustó más pero el de Will menos. Hace una cosa que me parece terrible y lamentable y dudo que algún día le pueda perdonar.

El final no lo esperaba así que me ha gustado bastante porque me ha sorprendido mucho. Espero poder leer pronto la tercera parte y así cerrar esta trilogía.

El gobierno de Estados Unidos tiene en su poder la dichosa biblioteca donde está escrito el destino de la humanidad, la tienen en Área 51. El asunto es que falta un libro, acá entra nuestro héroe Will Piper, que debe recuperarlo porque puede tener las respuestas a algunas preguntas sobre el fin del mundo (recuerden que es el 9 de febrero del 2027).

Will logra comprar el libro en una subasta (claramente nadie sabía el valor e importacia del libro) y va donde la persona que lo dio a subasta para encontrar información, es ahí donde resuelve el gran misterio...

Este libro tiene una buena historia, es original pero está mal ejecutada, fue aburrido o no sé si sea que veníamos con otras expectativas por 𝘓𝘢 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘢 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘴 𝘔𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘴. Fue al final que el libro cobró vida. Las resoluciones a los enigmas eran taaaan fáciles, tan convenientes que resultaba absurdo. Hubo otros detalles que le restaban credibilidad y, está bien, es ficción pero deberíamos poder creernos gran parte de la historia. El final lo sentí muy apresurado y no hubo crecimiento en personajes, por lo menos de los principales.

También nos dan a conocer la primicia del siguiente libro y la verdad no promete mucho, esperemos que tenga ese giro salvaje para rescatar la historia.

Curiosamente mejor que el primero, sigue teniendo machismo, paternalismo y gordofobia aunque menos así que 🤷🏼‍♀️. O quizás que como tenía una parte de buscar un "tesoro" a través de pista me ha entretenido más. Un libro policíaco un poco del montón. Para pasar un rato entretenido está bien.

Come per il volume precedente della saga, ho trovato meno gradevole la parte ambientata ai giorni nostri, troppo infarcita di ovvietà, smancerie, cliché di turno. Invece la parte storica è bellissima, scritta davvero bene, avvincente.
