Odessa has been in love with Steven for years, ever since she first met him when she was seven, and he was nineteen. But Steven has been best friends with her sister since they were in high school, and even though she's now twenty-three to his thirty-five, Odessa feels like Steven doesn't realize she's grown into a woman. She's wrong of course.
After his grandfather died, Steven felt like the only family he has is Sherise and Odessa, and he doesn't want to screw that up for a night in the bed with Odessa. Still, he can't stop wanting her. She's grown into a desirable woman, one who is so beautiful that men are always after her, making Steven want choke every last one.
Not until they are thrown together on a beach for their summer vacation are the two able to explore the desire they have for one another, but what's going to happen when the vacation is over, when their lives take separate directions? Will Steven admit that there is more than lust between them, or will he lose the thing he has been trying so hard to hold onto all along?
I found this book to be somewhat lackluster. This is about Steven, the firefighter, and Odessa-his friend and also sister of his best friend. She has had a crush on him since she was little and now she is all grown up. He is broken hearted from a relationship that just ended and is a danger to the other fire fighters because he is making stupid mistakes because of that broken heart. My assessment-the fact that he is a fire fighter and the sister and pointless in this story. Although they could have added to the richness of this story, they did not. It seems their whole purpose was to make the story a little longer. The relationship was frivolous, based on him not wanting her to sleep with someone she didn't know and her wanting him for so long, agreeing. The affair takes place over a week on vacation, ends rather blah, and then picks back up with her returning from Asia, with, surprise, his baby. There is anger on his part and a threat to take her to court and get full custody, and he is sure he will get full custody because she didn't tell him about the child. Seriously!! Obviously he doesn't know the court system or has ever seen an episode of Jerry Springer. That is not a rationale for the courts to give you full custody. The whole notion made his "anger" unbelievable and thins the plot. I would give this book a 1 1/2 but I don't know how. I would not loan this book. TTFN-Sandy
I didn't dislike this book at all but I couldn't go as far as saying I liked it. I enjoyed parts of it but I think it was too short and choppy. I would love for the author to go back and revise this story to flesh it out. The characters are promising but the pacing made me feel like beats were missed and when it ends, I just wish there'd been more to their story than how it wrapped up with holes too quickly. She's a good author and there are other books by her I love where that was not a problem so I know she can do it.
This book was pretty good but I wish there was more! The storyline was sort of choppy and I think if the story had been fleshed out a bit more it could have been awesome... I did like the characters of Steven and Odessa though. :)
