This was a fun read. It was close to having a new CAT WHO book, although that opportunity ended. I do have several notes to follow since the book has things that I don't remember. Are you a Braun fan? What is your guess about the CAT WHO SMELLED SMOKE? Ms. Braun passed away before it was finished.
I wanted to review "The Cat Who mysteries" which I got most of the books from my Aunt Lynn. She died many years ago now, but a shared love of reading was always part of our relationship. I think the last book series we read and discussed was Harry Potter. My Mom's side of the family were always voracious readers including Mom, Grandma, Lynn, and Helen (and her Mom). Hope to continue to read as much as time permits my whole life.
Things I enjoyed about this book - 1) the interview with Lilian jackson Braun, the maps of the mythical town of Pickax as well as Moose County, and 3) the brief review of the clues for each book.
Things I disliked about the book. 1) It's been several years since the author of The Cat who .... books died, yet Sharon Feaster apparently decided not to make her companion book complete by including the books written after her publication, of which there were several. 2) The listing of characters in each book got boring after a few, particularly since what Sharon Feaster mentioned was direct from the book. 3) Ms. Feaster could have combined the listing of restaurants and places to eat throughout the book with what the characters had to eat. Better yet, leave it out completely. I was not that interested in this part of the book.
After finishing "The Cat Who" series I wanted a little more about the books. This companion book has all the info up through book 24 sliced and diced into chapters by topics with subheadings of the book names. My favorite is the final chapter written by the author about her life and the creation of the series as well as her real life Koko. The other chapter I like has all the character names and info. The rest of the chapters offer so much you will have to pace yourself.
This is the edition I own, read and reviewed. There is a newer edition that includes the newer books. I enjoyed having this compendium of Cat Who information including maps of Moose County and Pickax, Character lists (both human and animal), and background information. Not to be read as a novel but wonderful to have beside me while I read the whole series.
I really enjoyed this book. I’ve read this series since the first book and I had forgotten how Qwilleran acquired KoKo and Yum Yum. This book refreshed my memory and made me want to get those older books and read them again. I really loved reading about Lillian Jackson Braun. I knew very little about her.
A fun read, close to reading another Cat Who book. But. there are a few summaries that I do not recall. A good reason to reread a few of the lovely books.
Buy if you love the Cat Who books. A great companion book to have if you are reading a book and having trouble remembering a person, place or whatever and need to look something up. Plus the map is fun. Really it should be a map in color, 3D something cool like that.
A very quick read. This book contains a thumbnail description of all the Cat Who... books up thru the Cat who Had 14 Tales. It also includes a Cat Who Quiz (Which I promptly fell on my face with) and an interview with Lillian Jackson Braun. Well worth the read if just for the interview.
If you love The Cat Who... books you'll love this compendium of all places, characters, plots of the first 24 books (up to The Cat Who Went Up the Creek).
