A friend saw Lore speak, bought this book and had me read it first. To Lore's credit, my friend said Lore was an excellent speaker and really inspiring.

This does not seem to me to be useful for anyone who is at all introspective. The majority of the advice is common sense (you can choose your behavior, think about how other people feel, you don't have to want what other people want, you can choose to be happy, etc). There is a lot of breathing, thinking and positive affirmations, but not much in the way of actionable items.

When anyone talking about the mind says something like "Our brains are tools, just as a computer is a tool," they lose all credibility. Lore doesn't spend much time talking about the logistics of the brain, but to me a basic understanding of how thoughts and feelings work is essential to crafting a book on how to manage them.

I was also bothered by statements like "If a thought does not bring me peace or inspire me, it is by its very nature destructive and diseased." Negative thoughts are going to happen, and they are sometimes necessary.

Perhaps Lore is more helpful for team-building type exercises and inspirational seminars. There just isn't enough substance in this book or fact to back it up.

There aren't enough words to describe the value of 'Managing Thought....' Lore has taken the complex concept of 'Managing Thought...' into a clear, concise and easy to read life manual. If you buy/read only one book this year, 'Managing Thought...' is the book to buy/read. You will use it for the rest of your journey as a trusted guide, mentor and accurate mirror.

I read this book with a young man whom I’m tutoring as he works toward his GED. I’ve read worse. The author has some nice insights about moving beyond a fight/flight/freeze response to events, and checking your response to events before acting upon them. But the book doesn’t move much beyond that.

One of the best books I have read. It really takes you on a journey to get to know yourself based on methods and techniques that are introduced incredibly simple and inspirational. I loved the fact that I ended up with so many notes. It does not happen often that I have so many notes from things I really want to remember and apply. I have to sort through them and see if I can reduce them to something to be remembered. Another thing that I loved ae the open invitations and detailed methodology to do the proposed exercises. I wanted to read the book first but want to do the exercises. I feel that even moe value comes with the exercises.
