A very good book about public speaking.
He starts by giving a broad overview of how our brain and emotions work.
Then he delves into the main topic with very useful practical tips from someone who has plenty of experience.

The downside of the essay is that it is a bit repetitive.
It is widely known, even from our own experience, that something extraordinary will be much more easily remembered than something ordinary: highly emotional, good or bad, episodes stay with us for years.
As the author says "Emotions cement memories".
However, this concept is repeated several times with different flavours.

The take home message is that none or very few people are born good speakers, more often than not one becomes a good speaker.
For doing so we need to master our emotions and train our memory: enter in the fluidity of state and be aware of our body on stage.

I'll definitely come back to this book prior to an important presentation.

As the old saying goes, lead by example and Derek Borthwick does this perfectly! He writes in easy to understand yet engaging language and I imagine this is how he also delivers his public speeches at events too.

He is clear, concise and breaks down the complexity techniques so you know if it's basic or advanced. The book is full of tips, tricks and methodology which a nervous or inexperienced speaker can tackle and master one by one.

Some books in this niche can become a bit preachy, however Derek has avoided this problem well and as you work your way through the book you can feel your motivation and confidence grow.

There is a great balance of humour, story telling and of course some great examples - yes I caught myself crossing my arms!

Although the author raised some good strategies on how to be a better public speaker, there were multiple typos and grammar mistakes riddled throughout this book. Whenever seeing one of these areas, it takes away from the authors credibility. Overall, this is a decent read that will give you some good tips on how overcome your fear of public speaking.

Had a presentation at work which was allowing me to feel nervous. This book has some really good tips but it’s a long term read rather than short term solutions. It did have benefit and impact but not as much as it would have if I had read it overtime. Also feel the author tries to sell his other ‘self help’ material throughout which wasn’t of interest.

J’ai presque pris plaisir à lire un bon vieux bullshit bingo book à l’anglo-saxonne sur l’art de parler en public. Quelques tips à droite à gauche mais l’ensemble est assez mauvais. Ouf!
