James Melzer fell in love with love at an early age…he just didn’t know it yet. Originally writing in the horror genre, he’s completed two contemporary romance novels under the name “Jamie Deschain,” and is currently adding more to be released under his own name. When he’s not working, James can be found in his studio, painting art from the heart. He currently resides in Pennsylvania with his wife, son, and two very opinionated cats.
So I got an urge to read winter or Christmas themed books...and I stumbled upon this little story. This was okay, well written and a quick read. But utterly predictable. I knew what was up almost instantly, and then just spent the rest of the story waiting for the reveal.
This is a short story by James Melzer. A very quick read, it took me less than 10 minutes from beginning to end.
Every winter, in a Pennsylvania town, the old man creates his snowmen art on his front lawn. He keeps them all winter by hosing them down once a week during the cold hours of night. His latest masterpiece, based on Transformers, is a hit with the children and their parents alike. But what is discovered once the spring thaw hits is a surprise to all.
Even though this was a quick read, I enjoyed it very much. The descriptions were excellent and I could see the artistic images in my mind. I even felt a tad cold as I could hear the wind whipping around outside my living room window.
Short, short, short, short, short, short, short. My review may be longer.
No one's fault, I believe the blurb about it mentioned it's shortness. The ending just slammed me in the face like the time I was being chased by my students on the playground and I ran face first into the swingset beam.
In both cases I was enjoying myself before hand but was left wondering "what just happened?" after.
A short story for Kindle. Leans toward being a horror story. Edgar Davies has become a local celebrity for the elaborate snowman display he makes every year. This year, as Edgar thrills all the kids who show up to see the snowmen, the holiday is marred by some missing hunters.
WOW! Who would have thought that a kindly old gentleman could kill. This was a nice short with a twist. I see author James Melzer has a knack for things macabre.
