Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate... The first said, My, it's getting late! ...
Count with the pumpkins from one to five as they each experience the fun and spookiness of Halloween night! Spot-laminated pumpkins shine on the cover of this spirited padded board book.
The soft padded covers, rounded corners and sturdy board pages make this title a perfect fit for preschoolers!
A beautiful book adaptation of the popular children's fingerplay/action rhyme by the same name. I read it to my son yesterday, and he was captivated. It's certainly not the season for this type of book, but we didn't care! If we had as much fun as we did reading it yesterday, think what fun we could have near Halloween incorporating other fun activities and stories into our reading session. Looking forward to it already! Five Little Pumpkins is a larger sized board book, so it is perfect for baby and toddler groups.
A chilling rhyme of spookiness as relayed by five little pumpkins sitting on a gate, and what occurs around them as the sit there on a Halloween night.
SUMMARY: Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. The first one said, "Oh my, it's getting late."Get ready for some wicked fun as these five pumpkins run and roll! Toddlers will want to chant along with this popular rhyme again and again. Dan Yaccarino's vibrant and bold illustrations bring these pumpkins to life with personality and style. Toddlers are sure to laugh out loud as these pumpkins roll out of sight!
REVIEW: According to my 2 1/2 year old grandson, "Gigi this good book!" The rhyming pattern is so easy for little ones to chime in with and the pictures are adorable. This one will be pulled out each Halloween for a long time.
What a fun rhyming counting book. It is a greay book to get you into the Halloween spirit. My son Nico might be a little to young to understand the book but I do know he enjoyed it. The quickness of the story kept him entertained while not being to long to make him crabby. The colorful pictures set a nice scene for the book. There was even a part where the wind went WOOOOOO and I read it in a spooky tone and Nico's eyes got wide with freight but after he smiled with glee. Can't wait to read it to him when he gets a little older.
This is a cute rhyme, but it's a classic so the text is not what will make or break this book as there are other versions. What is great about this version are the illustrations. The pumpkins really pop against the dark blue background. The illustrations are a bit spooky but the pumpkins are so fun and friendly looking that it's not too scary for little ones.
I actually picked this book up on clearance and was able to create a hand puppet to go along with the story! I used a glove, some orange pipe cleaners for the pumpkins and velcro to hold them on. Then I read the story and as each pumpkin left the story I had a student pull one of the pumpkins off the glove!
Charming board book with rhyming verses. Vivid saturated colors against a "spooky" Halloween night. Not too scary for the little ones but does include a little darkness & drama to set it apart from other toddler Halloween books. We liked this one so much that we bought a copy for our two year old's book collection.
This very cute rhyming book will teach your little ones a new way to count to five. It's a spooky fun treat for the kids and very colorful and whimsical for Halloween. This is a great story to read after you've carved the pumpkins and it's time for bed.
This book is very beginner level. I would use it in a kindergarten class during halloween but could also be used any time for beginning counting. I think it could be used as read alone practice for kindergartners.
Five Little Pumpkins was a classic rhyme that I grew up hearing, most likely in preschool and kindergarten. I was delighted when our family received this book as a gift. The illustrations are vibrant with perfect deep jewel tone Halloween colors. There are many versions of this rhyme in book form, but there are four reasons I specifically enjoy this version. 1. The illustration on the “out went the light” pages are enchanting. When reading it to my children I always whisper this part. The whispering in addition to the dramatic black background picture with the illuminated pumpkins and ghosts flying through the air has a magical and just slightly “preschool spooky” effect for toddlers. 2. The rhyme that I was familiar with growing up included one of the pumpkins saying, “I don’t care”. This version of the book swaps out that rhyme with a more classical Halloween rhyme of, “good folk beware”. This rhyme makes me smile every time. I really prefer it to what I was previously familiar with. 3. We have the board book version of this book. It is sturdy with a slightly squishy thick cover. It has survived three active toddlers. 4. I adore the illustrations in this book. The cute speckled frogs in witches hats and chubby little pumpkins are standouts.
This is a wonderful book for preschool-1st graders. It is a cute story about 5 pumpkins who all eventually go away in some different way. It is written in a sing-song, poetic way. It is definitely Halloween themed and a great way to teach math, reading, and a fun read aloud. It is a short book, but one that can be read again and again. I gave it 4 stars because it is a cute book and fun for even me to read. Genre: poetic, picture book
I was invited to read a book for story time at a pre-school. I chose this one and it was a hit with the 4 year olds that I read it too. It is a quality sturdy book with vibrant colorful photos. The story is the rhyme about "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate" which is easy to teach to children. It is a catchy tune.
PS You can also look up on YOUTUBE hand motions that go along with the rhyme which children enjoy!
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate The first one said, "My it's getting late!" The second one said, "There are witches in the air!" The third one said, "Good folk, beware!" The fourth one said, "We'll run and run!" The fifth one said, "Let's have some fun!" Woooo went the wind and out went the light..and the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
10 pages. Cute illustrations. Pretty close to original text of book. Board book.
I chose traditional literature for this book because it is the classic rhyming story that carries a tune that many rhyming stories do. I have read it to many children and they all seem to know this story. It was not around when I was a child, but defiinately will be one that I share with my future children and students.
This is one of my favorite Halloween rhymes! The wording is a bit different but it didn't change the story. The illustrations are beautiful. Rich, bright fall shades like purple, pink, orange and deep reds really set this version of the book apart. Not to mention the funny little ghosts and witchy frogs tagging along for the adventure.
I like the illustrations in this one. I plan to chant “Five Little Pumpkins” with the babies, then read this book after now that we all know the rhythm! The rhymes are a little different than the one I’m used to but the story is essentially the same.
Thought this was a sweet little book execution of the existing children's rhyme/song/fingerplay. Only questionable part is the third finger being "Good folks, beware!" instead of "But we/I don't care!" haha.
The text is changed from the OG poem and the meter is now off. “The third one said, ‘Good folk, beware!’” I really really like the pumpkins and other illustrations so I’d still show it to a young child.
This is one of the cutest pumpkin stories we own, we have the padded board book and we read it year round not just for Halloween time. The story is short and sweet and the illustrations are so beautiful!
