Like many Bor Nargan women, Jeanne has never had sex. The planet publically shuns intercourse, branding women as wicked for even talking about sexual urges. Then a man unlike any she's ever seen stumbles through her door--literally. Even his disheveled appearance doesn't stop her from wanting to strip bare and place her body in his talented hands. Created solely for pleasure, Eland is a level-three Shareem. Rough, edgy, commanding. Oh, the things he could teach Jeanne...if he can stay alive long enough. Publisher's Sexy and sensual? Or down and dirty? If you enjoyed this tantalizing taste, the Tales of the Shareem series has a level of pleasure just for you. This is a short story of the Shareem world, about 7500 words.

After reading Aiden and Ky, the 4th book in the Tales of the Shareem series, I have to say that I'm happy I never gave a piece of my heart to Eland and Jeanne, because the hasty HEA I thought they were going to have when I finished their story didn't come true. Based on what I was told in Aiden and Ky, Eland and Jeanne "weren't in love, but they were good friends. They lived together but each pursued sexual relations with whomever they wanted." Ack! I'm mad.
Original review (November 14, 2010)
I'm not familiar with the Tales of the Shareem series, but I've been told that this quickie could be read as a standalone. I was wary of it, but I decided to give a shot anyway.
Well, I must congratulate Ms. James because she's managed to make me understand the world of the Shareem very well in few words - quite a feat, considering the lenght of this book. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Eland and Jeanne, the H/h in the story. I didn't connect with them, hence I didn't care about their relationship one-night stand and hasty HEA.
On the bright side, I'm going to give the full-lenght books in this series a try, even though I didn't like this quick introduction. I liked the idea behind the world of the Shareem and I'm curious to meet Eland's "friends" (I don't know how to call them.)
A quick short story about Eland, the level-three Shareem and Jeanne a typical Bor Nargan woman. We will actually meet these two characters in most Shareem stories.
This story is like a prequel of the main series and it describes a bit how Shareems had been on the run. Eland will find refuge at Jeanne's home and their sexual relationship will begin.
Although Eland and Jeanne are lovers in the next book, they behave more like friends than two people in a committed relationship.
Series order according to the author: 1. Rees 2. Maia & Rylan 3. Rio 4. Aiden & Ky 5. Calder 6. Braden 7. Justin 8. Kieran ***Eland and Jeanne (can be read anytime)***
See https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25436191-eland-and-jeanne for a fully revised and expanded edition of this book. The story is now "Eland and Jeanne," a 36,000 word novella (it was a 4500-word freebie short story). It is a "prequel" to the Shareem series, but can be read any time during the series.
Series order: Rees Maia & Rylan Rio Aiden & Ky Calder Braden Justin Kieran Eland and Jeanne (can be read anytime)
This isn’t bad for a 24 page erotic freebie, and it definitely made me interested in reading more of the series, especially since the Shareem seem to be a naughty bunch who are gifted in delivering ultimate pleasure!
Jeanne, like almost all women on her planet was a virgin. When a man came to her house, banging outrageously at her door, she was excited to learn that he wanted more that a drink of water.
Eland is a Shareem. Shareem are scientificly made for sex. There are different levels of Shareem. Eland is a level 3 which means he needs some ruffness to his lovin.
Allyson James/Jennifer Ashley is picking up this series again soon.
Reviewed for THC Reviews Eland is a short prequel story to Allyson James's (aka Jennifer Ashley's) Tales of the Shareem erotic romance series. It's really little more than a teaser for the series, giving the reader a taste of the author's writing style and the world building. With that being the case, there isn't much in the way of characterizations or plot. The setting is futuristic and otherworldly. The heroine, Jeanne, is a virgin who lives on a planet that disdains sex. The hero, Eland, is a genetically engineered male known as a Shareem, beings who were created exclusively to dispense sexual pleasure. The corporation that made him has been disbanded for their experiment with the Shareem, and now, the Shareem are being hunted like criminals.
The scenario presented in this story is a tad far-fetched. Eland shows up at Jeanne's door filthy and severely dehydrated after running from the law for days, but a glass of water and their futuristic version of a shower revives him enough to “perform” amazingly well. For a virgin from a planet where sex is a no-no, Jeanne is pretty well-informed about sex. She also isn't particularly off-put by Eland's presence in her home or his overt sexuality. I've never been a huge fan of stranger sex and the bulk of the story is about just that. They spend one passionate night together and then are separated for three months while Eland continues to run for his life. Jeanne pines for Eland while they're apart, but eventually, they're reunited and make some quickie declarations of love that weren't entirely believable under the circumstances. The love scene was fairly steamy though and the writing pretty solid, so overall, this wasn't a bad story given the word count the author had to work with. It's mentioned that Eland is searching for Rees, who becomes the hero of the next book of the series. While Eland wasn't a stellar story in and of itself, the world-building has sufficiently intrigued me and whetted my appetite just enough to make me give the next book, Rees, a try. Eland was originally published by Ellora's Cave in their Naughty Nooners series of free short stories. It has since gone out of print, but it appears that the author has plans to re-release it soon on her own.
Note: This story contains explicit language and sexual content, which includes some light bondage, intimate shaving and a little spanking, but given that Eland is a level three Shareem (basically anything goes), it was fairly subdued for an erotic romance.
I have to admit that I had very mixed feelings about this book. Although I did like the characters, and the concept that the author was attempting to convey here, it felt more like she was trying to make an excuse for there to be sex in this short. For most of these shorts, yes, I do expect it to be basically what it is called, a Naughty Nooner. However, you are given a background, a build and a solid set up that makes the sex make sense. In this story however, it was just given to you. A naked man falls in the doorway, and bam it is all about the lust and need. I mean to be fair to the author she gave us a story after wards. However, I don’t think I got enough for it for me to even care about the outcome. I think I was most disappointed that I was left with this urge to pout and go “Oh, that’s all?”
The book is a prequel in a series. I think I just expect more from my prequels, or I just expect more from the women on Ellora’s Cave because I am rarely disappointed by what I find on there. This short was a free read you can obtain it from Ellora’s Cave in varying popular eBook formats, or you can download direct via Kindle. I can’t really complain because I didn’t spend some ridiculous amount of money. I was just left feeling a bit disappointed I guess. Even if I’m reading a short I want to be tantalized just a little. Trust me, the mail lead was highly tantalizing, I mean heal he was created for the sole purpose to pretty much have sex. I think I just need to read the series. It is not the top of my list, but I defiantly want to know where the writer is going with this idea.
I’m not sure how I acquired them but I have a set of romance trading cards that revolves around this series. The sexiness of the cards alone made me decide I must read this series. I bought the first couple of books in the series and then discovered this Kindle freebie that is the prequel to the series.
Set on a distant futuristic planet the DNAmo have created the Shareem to provide pleasure, on a planet that avoids intercourse. After an escape Eland finds himself hiding from the patrollers who have been ordered to eliminate the experiments. He is looking for another Shareem who might be able to help him. What he finds instead is a female, Jeanne that he must have. Jeanne has been raised amongst people that do not engage in sex. Hot erotic sex on two legs has shown up on her doorstep promising to deliver her a night of ultimate passion, she’s an intelligent lady she invites him in for a shower and a drink. (wink, wink)
This is a very short novella, but it is free. Eland gives readers a taste of so many erotic possibilities with the longer books of the series. I am definitely looking for to reading further into the Tales of the Shareem.
Perfect short and sweet book, although I wouldn't mind it as a longer version.
Someone is banging on Jeanne's door in the middle of the night. He's Eland, who is on the run. He's a DNA experiment gone awry that the government is planning on exterminating. He's also built for sex. This is on a planet that thinks sex is slutty and messy and has babies from test tubes. Jeanne's always been interested but has never gone all the way. Well, Eland takes care of that!
Perfect size story if you need a short break from your full length book.
Luv Allyson James!! 3 Star rating is because I have a hard time rating short stories any higher than that...they usually just start to get good & then they are over...but the Naughty Nooners series are fun, quick, and of course, very Naughty! And it was free on my Kindle, so how could I pass that up??
Hot and heavy in 3.0 seconds, but then again that's what these "Naughty Nooners" are all about. The story did pique my interest enough for me to add Rees, the first book of the Shareem series, to my Wish List. SciFi Erotica sounds like a fun pairing.
I loved it! A great way to draw you into the series and leave you wanting more. James is a wonderful writer that can really write a hot story. I loved Jeanne and Eland and felt them falling in love second after meeting. I can't wait to read more of this series.
Very different series about men/women created for sexual slavery. Welcome to Bor Narga, a planet where sex is no longer practised and the Bor Nargans’ have risen above basic bodily needs and emotions. Sex is unneeded and children are created in artificial wombs. Of course the extremely wealthy have their dirty secrets and that is the SHAREEM, genetically created and enhanced men and women, who were created and trained to be sex workers but with lots of extras. They are trained too various levels of expertise in the art of sex. I owned the EC version of this book which I lost some time ago, so was really pleased to see these now out again and rereleased. I still have half of the books but it was great to see them as box sets. A very different and intriguing series that contains lots and lots of sex of varying degrees. This expanded version was entertaining and does give us a bit more background story but this whole series really is sexual in content and context.
Eland is a short Paranormal Erotica in the ‘Tales of the Shareem’ series by Allyson James.
Jeanne is a Bor Nargan, a species on another planet that does not believe in sex and breeds in laboratories. Those on her planet who talk, think, or act on sexual urges are shunned from society. Breeding is done solely in laboratories. Eland is a Shareem, bred in a DNAmo Clinic for the sole purpose of sexual pleasure. Eland is a level 3 Shareem, meaning his sexual needs and acts are dominating and rough.
Late one night, Jeanne hears a banging on her door and finds a gorgeous stranger who literally falls into her home. She offers the mysterious man water to revive and her home while he recovers. She wants to be cautious of Eland, but finds her curiosity and attraction dominating her control. Being a species bred for pleasure, he recognizes Jeanne’s need. After Eland has quenched his thirst and cleansed, he and Jeanne begin getting to know one another better. With some hot bathroom and bedroom sex, Jeanne awakens to an empty home. She turns on the news to find that the DNAmo Clinic was shut down after officials discovered they were breeding a pleasure species. They warn citizens to be careful, as a few of the specimens have escaped capture. Jeanne realizes that Eland must have been one of the escaped and worries about him. Later, when the threat has lessened, Eland returns to her. They confess their love for one another and they live happily ever after.
I liked the idea of the other planet, the two species had potential, but the story started and ended without imagination. He stumbles into her home, but after he's had water they pretty much start getting it on. At the end of the story, he returns to her and they confess their feelings. The ending was anti-climatic. No pune intended.

The title is forgettable for me, unfortunately. However, I read the description of the book and I go, Oi! Yes I remember that story. I have read so many short stories that I'm starting to confuse these stories. However, this one I remember - it's fully sizzling and forbidden.
No one ever has sex? Not until this sex-machine entered her place while the police was out looking for the escaped fugitive? Mmm! Sinful but worth every second!
I just found out that it is a prequel (naturally!) to a series so now I just added it to my Series list on my Kindle. ;) I got this as a freebie and it's the first one I ordered. So, while it does have a base to begin the series, the short story is very dedicated to the sensations within the flesh.
# I can't help but think of elk with this guy's name (an "eland" is an elk in Dutch) # The so-called "extreme" deviousness of the type 3s is dramatised way too much, as in fact it's a slight amount of butt swatting and some light bondage.... which is.... not extreme or dangerous at all... # After 1 meeting and 2 fuckings, a HEA, which is damn hard to believe # Read in another review that it's not an actual HEA and that they don't stay together, according to another book in the series... which totally ruins the entire story
I imagine that writing little novella's like this one is extremely difficult. To give the story a good enough back ground that the whole thing doesn't feel like a set up just to have a sex scene. There were a few things that irritated me about the story although that was more personal preference than anything and I also felt that the sex came about too abruptly. This was explained a little however with the brief explanation of the Shareem and the nature that had been bred into them. Overall, I'm looking forward to reading more.
This was a good plot very interesting, Eland and Jeanna was very sexy and steamy. He was running and stumble in to her home needing water and one thing leads to another it's not bad for a short story that's a freebie if your expecting to feel a connection with the characters not going to happen take the story for what it is a good short quick read with a nice plot.
I like books that have characters from worlds that do not exist or at least worlds that we do not know if they exist. Very interesting. With a little work the author could make a great novel out of this.
Short story but James does a nice job of describing the premise for this series. Enough information provided for me to consider reading the first book in the series. Could have used a little more background info about the two characters.
The book is a lot short, Eland is kind of an ass, and Jeanne is rather pathetic. The instalove bit was blah, but bits of story in this "love scene" intrigue me enough to try the first full novel in this series. Just to see where it's going and if it's worth reading the series itself.
This a freebie from Ellora's Cave - fair read but didn't seem consistent with the glimpse you get of them in Aiden & Ky's book. Which is why it ended up with a 3 - maybe 3.5?
FREEBIE - if you like Tales of Shareem a definite read. It's a good quick read - a fix while we wait for Braden (Tales of Shareem #6) to come out on 16Mar11.
