Did Not Finish
October 1, 2026One Line: If a stranger pointed out that it was "obvious" I hadn't bathed that day, I would NEVER go on to date them.
Why I DNF'd: I dropped this fairly early on due to several things that made it unreadable for me:
-The first chapter was an exposition dump, which I've always found an arrogant way to begin a story because it's completely uninteresting. Why would I, as a reader, stick around?
-The heroine refers to the male lead by his full name in the prose for several pages; this felt redundant and silly.
-The dialogue overall made me think numerous times, "This is not how people actually speak." It was stilted and unnatural, even during the conversations between the two romantic leads.
-On that note, the banter between them was not fun or clever, which is one of the major selling points of contemporary romances for me.
-Early on, he points out that she hasn't bathed all day. WHO DOES THAT?
-The author doesn't know how people with curly hair take care of it.
