A Tropical Depression

Rate this book
"I'm beginning to think that love for me is a bit like Quantum Mechanics, something I know to exist, but have no idea how it works." For John Hansen, love is not only a mystery but clearly out to make him miserable. A Tropical Depression is the story of, in Hansen's own words a "paunchy, quickly graying, miserable for the most part" forty-year-old 40-year-old man's search for love and understanding from two very different women. One is his terminally ill mother who favored his self-destructive older brother; the other a free spirited co-worker who is trapped by her feelings for an abusive ex-husband.

The beginning of this book was so descriptive. It really explained the whole situatuin of John's life. It was kinda slow in the beginning, but when we meet John's mom, it starts to get good. One of the characters wh o pissed me off was Jess. ok, so I get that Jess is liek, the woman that John loves but she is so fickle. Honest;y, just make up your mind! Do you want to be alone, love him or love him? Like, gosh!

My favourite chracter has to be John's mom. She cares about people but just deosn't show it. I know by the end of the book, she shows John a little love but she means well. I know she can be so cranky and a ass sometimes but, some old people are just like that.

The events in the book were great.Driving, loving, complaining, loving,drinking.partying.loving.hating.fighting. EVERYTHING! It was pretty good. The only thing I have to say is that some events were kinds confusing to me. The way it was written really.

Overall, the book was great. I recommend it to young adults who want to read a stoy about love and lost.

I got this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

I won this book through Firstreads.

I really liked all of the descriptions of the parts of New Orleans you don't see on TV during Mardi Gras. The transitions between the main character's interactions with Jess and his interactions with his parents were good. The flashbacks flowed as well.

I probably could have done with a little bit less of the descriptions of his drinking and the excuses he used to have another drink. Sometimes I thought the story got lost a little bit in counting drinks and descriptions of hangovers.
