How can I start? Where do I start?

Plot: The story is about Jazz, who I can't discern if is a high scholar or an university girl, who lives in Australia, and meets Seb, who's a vampire coming to protect her, because she's the only human in this century, who carries genes to preserve his species.

Up to here, the premise sounds good, but as it's developed thru the book, Ms. Brown, its mission fails. There are way too many Twilight references, once and again, over and over, such as:

"...His skin was incredible white..."

"... Her skin seemed almost translucent and flawless. She had blond hair..."

"... I don't know why but there was just something about him that I could not get out of my head. <...> An unusual feeling to have for someone I hadn't met yet."

Mystery man, apple tattoo (What's up with this one, by the way?), unusual feelings for someone, her relationship with his sister, the cars, being filthy rich. Rings something familiar?

Seventy-to-eighty percent of the book I just read Twilight's similarities, over and over.

The last 20% of this book was pretty good, actually! And your cliffhanger was OK!

Characters:

Seb is a royal vampire, that came from other world, who has a mission: protect Jazz, who's the only human that can procreate vampires in this century. During his duties, he falls in love with her, and becomes the only vampire who can love at all!

Jazz is the classical next-door girl, who studies, lives with her parents and brother, and works as a waitress to make it thru the meet ends. When she meets Seb, her strange dreams come to a clearer vision, and fall in love with Seb.

Thru this book you can read every and each character of Twilight.

When I was given this book to review i wasn't sure on what i would think about reading it, because we should never judge a book by its cover but for me i must admit sometimes the cover can go towards if i buy or how i perceive a book.

Although i'd read what the book was about the cover never made me that excited. I am a big vampire fan and the vampire books i have read all stick to the same theme- vampires live on earth, people know about them although they live seperate to humans, in order to fully mated blood has to be exchanged during lovemaking. So i started this book with the thought this was going to be along the same lines- how wrong was I.

I really like this book, it was written from outside the box and never followed the norm. i loved jazz's character and the initial moment she seen seb at the lights, how many of us have done that. I liked the way it took its time getting these two characters together, and the conflict in seb to start. the characters were beleivable Bliss, Xavier, Vern, Melinda, Jackson we never heard that much on him. At the beginning i would of liked to of had maybe a bit more description on the tafe because i didn't know what this was until i had read a bit further on. Also there is'nt that much on Jazz's two friends Jules and Erica, i would of liked to of seen a bit more interaction between those three friends.

I loved the way it also gave you the point of view from seb, when he was watching her without her knowing and the protective way he was with her. The way he was torn between what he should and was doing the inner conflict he was going through with himself. You could tell he was someone important but at this stadge you didnt know what.
When Jazz went to stay in Sebs house and she seen the door for the portal how many of us have been as curious as her and would we off done he same? when Jazz goes through the portal and sees Aidensdein the cover of the book makes perfect sense.

I loved the whole different dimension of the vampire world and the references to red - because blood is red and thats what they eat, i loved the fact that while they are on earth they actually ate foods even if it was rare.
When Jazz was Captured by brennen( whose name reminded me of amy bartols irish vampire rogue in the preminiation series) i would of liked to of read a bit more about his character. i felt the length of the captured and rescue was right i would of liked a bit more background on brennen.
i only suggestion i would of had about this book is at one point i thought there was over use of speach marks.
I loved the twist of essentially the rich guy/ poor girl from different worlds meet and fall in love and the fact Carolyn never followed the norm with a vampire story. So as the saying goes "Dont judge a book by its cover."
I would recommend this book very highly for anyone to read and have just downloaded the 2nd book -He came for mine.

He Came For Me isn't your average run of the mill paranormal book. There are no love triangles, only harmless beings not of this world. Carolyn Brown created a unique twist on vampires in young adult novels today.

As the story unfolds we are looking at the world through Jazz's eyes. She watches as a guy drives by her one morning on her way to class and feels an instant connection. Not only does she find his eyes captivating, but she wonders why there is such a strong pull. She hasn't even met the guy and she is looking for him everywhere she goes. What she doesn't know is that he has always been there, she just never noticed him before.

Jazz is a down-to-earth college student who questions the odd things happening in her town, who lets her curiosity get the best of her, and who actually reacts properly when she finds out the guy who she feels this strong pull towards isn't human. None of that, "Oh, that's cool." She actually has a mild panic attack. To top things off, she doesn't get all gaga over the guy. He's there, great. He's missing for a few days, upset but she'll get over it. Like I said, not your average run of the mill young adult paranormal book.

There were a few other things I loved about this book besides Jazz. To be specific there was one event towards the end that reminded me of a horror movie. You know what I'm talking about. It's the scene where a girl is upstairs, she hears a bump downstairs, so she goes exploring, and something bad always happens. Well, there was a scene like that and something bad did kind of happen. I LOVED IT. I also enjoyed some of the words Carolyn chose to use. There were words that I hadn't seen in a young adult novel, such as specimen, and I grinned every time I read it (3 times). It's the little things that make me happy. Finally, we weren't just dealing in one world, but two. Normally we only see everything playing out on Earth, but in He Came For Me we have two completely different worlds.

Overall, this book was a great read. There was a little bit of content not suitable for a younger audience, but it wasn't as graphic as some books could be. I would recommend this to paranormal lovers 17 and up.

I was lucky enough to be given this book by the author, Carolyn Brown, to read for review. This did not influence my review in any way. :)

So I am a big fan of vampire stories, and have been for a long time, well before the Twilight craze. Not that I didn't adore those stories either. I was very much looking forward to reading this book, because I could tell from the author's summary, that this might not be the typical vampire love story.

While I did enjoy the unusual way that these vampires existed, in that in their own "home" they didn't need to feed on humans, but spent time with them in this world to protect Jasmine. I didn't really feel they were that original in their physical description. They were like any other vampire story; beautiful, pale, aloof, strong, and powerful. Sebastian (I hated the shorten name to Seb, btw) seemed more body guard than scary, but I did enjoy reading his point of view, a majority of time. I did not appreciate the way he handled things with Jasmine though, and lost all respect for him. He definitely seemed like a coward by the end. There was also nothing that special about the secondary characters, vampire and/or human. They just seemed more like filler, and mostly annoying at best. The reasoning behind why Jasmine was being hunted down, was lost on me, until more towards the end.

The main character, Jasmine, was a typical young girl, that I thought was funny at times. I couldn't really relate to her or her rambling thoughts about what was happening all around her. She just seemed clueless most of the time. I wish that I could understand her motivation for why she did the things she did, but it just didn't come across well. The chemistry between Sebastian and Jasmine did feel genuine though. What I did enjoy the most was the setting. The Australian coast line sounded beautiful and even Sebastian's home seemed interesting, even though everything was in shades of red.

I wish that I felt some connection to the main characters, but it just didn't happen for me, so I don't plan on reading to continue the series. I know that the version I was sent came from the author, so it might not have been through the editing process. The spelling and grammatical errors were sometimes distracting, and there was an issue of the explantation point being over used through out the story. It made some of the more emotional or intense scenes confusing with the normal interactions.

He Came For Me wasn’t a very face paced read, but I did enjoy it. It had a storyline that built slowly towards an intense ending. The Vampires in this story are from another dimension and are able to travel to earth using portals. It is an interesting twist to the normal Vampire stories that have already been told.

We follow the life of Jasmine “Jazz,” who is a normal girl in her late teens. She isn’t a very strong character in this story. She is a quiet girl who appears to be set in a routine- goes to TAFE, goes surfing, goes to work, home to bed. She seems to just float through her life and is unaware of the people that have been monitoring her throughout her whole life. She has some great friends who she has known since she started school and goes out on Friday nights like all single girls. One day as she is headed to TAFE she makes eye-contact with a boy in a red mazda who will change her life forever.

Seb has been on earth for two years and has always had an attraction to the girl he has been set to protect. He can no longer stay away from her and decides to modify the mission to get closer to her. He is a very confident person with a body to die for- a perfectly sculpted athletic body....yum!!

Watching these characters interact is fun to watch. You can see their connection getting stronger but Seb keeps some distance between himself and Jazz, and he doesn’t realise that he is upsetting her. Jazz is very timid and doesn’t confront him about it; instead she wallows in her own misery. But when Seb decides to commit to the relationship you can see her personality lift. She is a very accepting person too and takes the Vampire issue in without really dwelling on it too much.

He Came For Me! was a fun read and at the end of the book I could tell that Jazz’s character has changed. She will be stronger in the sequel, more confident and independent. It will be interesting to see how the story goes from here... I’m looking forward to what comes next.

The cover and title of this book really caught my eye. As I began reading, I wasn't sure what kind of supernatural beings Seb and his friends were; I just knew they weren't "ordinary." I liked that I thought I knew but was unsure; my curiousity and interest kept me turning the pages.

The setting was really cool--I haven't read a book that takes place in Queensland before, and it was enjoyable getting a visual of what living there would be like from this story. The author did a wonderful job describing the area of the Sunshine Coast, and as a result I'd love to visit there someday!

I don't want to go into too much detail concerning the plot so as not to give anything away, but I do want to say that there were several twists and turns in the plot that were fresh and original! I really appreciated the author's unique spin on this fantasy story of young love.

I connected with the main character, Jazz, right away. She isn't your typical delicate flower type of character--she's independent and tougher than I thought she'd be, which was a happy surprise. All of the characters each have his or her unique personality. Bliss was one of my favorite characters--there was so much to like about her. Seb is mysterious and multilayered--there's much more to him that is slowly revealed throughout the book.

I gave this book a four out of five star rating only because of a very slight issue I had with the author's use of exclamation points. I felt the way the dialogue was written conveyed how passionately or dispassionately a character was speaking, and many times an exclamation point wasn't needed in my opinion. This was very minor, however, and I still flew through the book, needing to know what would happen next.

The ending was so good--I definitely need to read the next book to find out what happens next!

I received a copy of this book from a read and review group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

Jazz is just a normal college girl, or so she thinks. A handsome guy in a red car passes her one day and she can't stop thinking about. She makes friends with his friends and family, and she starts to notice unusual things. Sebastian has been protecting Jazz in secret for a long while and can no longer keep hiding. He must be a part of her life. Things aren't quite that easy, though. Seb is a vampire prince from another dimension, and Jazz is a woman of rare blood that would allow his kind to breed. That makes her a woman wanted by more than just Seb, and he's determined to protect her from all of them.

This isn't your typical vampire story. It was a refreshing change to read about a different sort of vampires who were from an interesting place such as Aidensdein. I liked the history and the politics, and I would've liked to have seen more of that from Seb as he is the Prince. Jazz is a typical young woman, and her reactions were natural to what was happening. I particularly appreciated that she thought it was creepy when she found out she was being watched as she slept! Though she felt a pull to Seb, her emotions grew from getting to know him rather than some unexplainable paranormal reason. It gave a level of believability to the story to take with the extraordinary elements.

There was some telling instead of showing, but the story was interesting enough to make me overlook it as I read. Brown sets the story up nicely for sequels making the reader yearn to learn more about Aidensdein and the Protectors themselves.

I really wanted to love this book...all the components were there for it to be really engaging but it fell short in a few areas that it was hard for me to bounce back from.

The story starts out with a girl (Jazz) who meets mysterious vampire (Seb) from a different planet who is sent with his sidekicks to protect Jazz because she carries a gene that can save his people. They fall in love in the mist of Seb's cousin trying to capture Jazz so he can obtain the gene and rule far away planet.

I liked Jazz. I liked her inner dialogue and how she dealt with the crazy situations. My problem was with Seb. While I liked him through chunks of the story I felt him to be a little controlling. The "falling in love" sequence was to fast for me and was put off by this for a bit.

The last quarter picks up the pace as we head to Sebs planet. The detail the author uses here is fantastic. Very original. I liked meeting Sebs mom, the mysterious bearded man, and the reveals. The big fight sequence was okay, I was never worried for the main characters. I did liked how the author wrapped up this story. Would I read the sequel...Yes. I want to see how the story continues.

I received a free copy from the author in return for a review. Thank you Carolyn Brown.

First off it was a good quick read-- action packed and lots of energy. I can see how this book would appeal to quite
lot of readers out there but for me,it wasn't my cup of tea. The story line was very interesting and the characters well written. I just thought the pace was rushed and I thought the reactions of many of the characters were plot devices, just added to advance the plot. Much of it didn't ring true to me and I couldnt buy in to the story. At its heart it was a love story and I didn't believe it.

Its fantasy elements were well rounded and I could really feel what the author was trying to accomplish. Vampires are hot commodities these days.

Jazz and Seb. Shes a college student and hes a vampire prince from another dimension who's been trying to protect her from some bad guys, without her knowledge and he falls for her.

I do recommend this book if your looking for a twist on the Vampire theme. I just wish I had liked it more.

First I would like to thank the Author for gifting me the book for a honest review. I really love Vampire books and this was a different twist on Vampires. It was very different.

We start off with Jazz a girl living in Australia, she lives a normal life, going to college, working and hanging out with her two best friends. Then she meets Seb and his friends, she is instantly attracted to him. It turns out that Seb is a Vampire prince from a different dimension. Seb and the rest of his friends are there to protect Jazz, from other vampires after her blood. She carries a rare gene, that lets other vampires reproduce. Seb is also attracted to Jazz, hes always been watching her from afar, but decides he wants to be with her.

I enjoyed this book, it got more exciting towards the end, but I felt Jazz didn't make very good choices. Like going through the portal! She knew she was in danger. I was not to happy with how things ended between Seb and Jazz. I thing Seb totally could of handled that better. If your looking for a different twist on Vampires this is it.

I received a free this book through goodreads read'4'review in exchange for a review. Thanks Carolyn :)
This book has put a big twist on vampires and how I see them.

Seb -vampire prince from a different dimension- falls in love with Jazz -protagonist of the story- whilst on a mission to protect her from his own cousin. I enjoyed the story line and did connect with the characters. However I feel there wasn't enough depth to some aspects of the story. I thought that Jazz and Sebs love story could have had more to it and we could have found out more about Seb and his world.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I am now looking forward to reading the next one - He came for mine.
Thanks again.

Really a 2.5

He Came For Me! was a new and interesting read, but I had some trouble with this book. The first chapters, up to 6, were hard to read because of so many grammatical and editing errors. I read this book on my kindle so I was able to highlight and place a note about the errors as a reminder. I came to feel more like an editor rather than a reader.

Examples:

"At the end of the night the males ordered a red jelly for desert and the girl orders a..." Males vs girl sounds awkward.

"She had cooked my favorite breakfast, pancakes, ice-cream and..." The word cooked just doesn't work here for me. It should be made and delete the had.

"What does that suppose to mean?" Probably more of a typo but there were plenty of these, this was the best example.

"She beckoned for me to take a seat on one chair which had been placed opposite and walked through the door." Opposite what?

I have plenty more notations including, but not limited to, input of a nickname as though it was a new character, awkward sentence structure, talk about characters that I don't recall ever reading about, Jasmine's attitude, sudden topic changes in the middle of a paragraph, inconsistencies and no dialogue just the character telling you what was being said. In fact, there was a time when I thought the book had no dialogue at all.

Also, the book is written in two perspectives. The first is Jazz or Jasmine, the heroine. The second perspective is Seb or Sebastian, the hero. At first I was confused and uncertain as to what was going on. The book needed subtitles to prepare and tell the reader there is a sift in perspective. There were paragraph dividers but when the first shift happened I was thrown. I got used to the different perspectives but I think the book would look better and have a more organized feel had there been subtitles.

Having the book written in two different perspectives wasn't bad. I actually liked that the author did this. I enjoyed Seb's voice. It really helped me understand and learn more about Seb and his world. I felt this was a great way to strengthen the book.

Because of the constant perspective changes, the character development was stronger vs the book being written through the eyes of Jasmine only. I wouldn't say the author was heavy on character development but I do feel I understand the characters more because of how the author chose to write her book. However, after saying that, I have to say that Jasmine was an interesting heroine. She wasn't deterred, scared or worried about much. She was a very stress free person. So much so that it started to concern me. I felt her reactions to be very underdeveloped. She started to react better as the book went on but for most of the first half of the book she had little to no reaction from the changes in her life and the freaky events that were happening.

Overall, the book did improve. The grammatical errors and all the other issues I had with the writing suddenly weren't as noticeable and from then on (about 60% into the book) I found that I enjoyed the book.
I felt Brown was pretty creative. She brought me into a new, original world. The book wasn't very long but I thought Brown did a good job in explaining Seb's world and adding as much information as she could in the book. It wasn't an information dump, as many books do. Instead, she took her time and explained how I would expect an author to explain Seb's world to the reader. There could have been more information about "the little things" but overall Brown covered what the reader needed to know.

The description of Australia was well done. I enjoyed the layout of the book. I have never been to Australia but I was easily sent there through the books descriptions. Brown also described Seb's world very well through the eyes of Jasmine.

I didn't hate this book. Once I hit the 60% mark, I quite enjoyed the book and wanted more from the author. Once the book goes through some more editing and corrections, I feel this book would have gotten a 3.5 star or higher.

Content: There is sexual content in that the characters talk about how they want to have sex. The end of the book does contain some sexual scenes but they are not explicit.

The author provided a copy of the book to me for a fair and honest review. Thank you to Ms. Brown for sending me a kindle copy of your book.

Disclaimer: I have received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Although this book had a different and interesting plot than your clichéd paranormal romance, I couldn’t really picture myself there in the book connecting with the characters. It might have to do something with the grammatical errors that were too common in the first few chapters of the book. When I contacted the author about the same, I was told that the story has been written in accordance with the local dialect that is prevalent in the geographical area where the plot of the book is located. As a reader whose not familiar with the regional dialect, I found it extremely difficult to understand what was being said and had to read lines more than once to get the meaning clear. But as I got halfway through the book the errors (atleast what I considered them to be) became much less noticeable and I started enjoying the story.

The book has been written in two perspectives, of Jazz(the female protagonist) and Seb’s (the hot male vampire protagonist).

Jazz (aka Jasmine) is a college student who one day on her way to TAFE finds herself getting tailed by a red Mazda. She feels an instant connection with the driver who is a hot, sexy guy. She hasn't even met the guy and she is looking for him everywhere she goes. Jazz’s character is very unconventional from our otherwise bimbo paranormal female leads that go all gaga over a vampire. She had a very realistic reaction when she got to know that the guy she’s starting to fall for is vampire from another dimension. Thrown in the mix are the bad guys who are after Jazz’s blood because she carries gene that allow these vampires to reproduce!

Seb or Sebastian is the royal prince of Aidensdein who comes to Earth from other dimension with the task of protecting Jazz from the baddies. Its been two years since he has been protecting her(and admiring her…read he is smitten) from afar. But now no more. He’s decided to approach her and make her his own.

Having the story in two perspectives helped me understand seb and Jazz’s differences better. We could understand seb’s need to keep some distance between himself and Jazz. Jazz is very timid and doesn’t confront him about it; instead she wallows in her own misery.

Overall it was an interesting read!

The cover was what first drew me to "He Came For Me". I didn't have a clue what I reading as of late I tend to judge a book by its cover. I fell instantly for the vivid color scheme. Something about the pink, blue and purple took me back to my teen years on a basketball team called the Power Puff Girls. So you know, I just had to read. Usually, when I choose a book by its cover I never go wrong. However this time I think I bit off more than I could chew.

Don't get me wrong, I managed to finished the book. I felt obligated as my teenage daughter repeatedly reminded me that she managed to get through it, so could I. It just has that rushed to publish feel about it. Brown has a great outline for a story that has the potential if put back on the drawing table has the premises to be a great trilogy. Everything from the beginning, where I can't decipher if Jazz is in her senior year of high school or if she is in college, this includes later as Jazz bring up the fact that her parents pay for her private education. The only thing I'm clear on is her age and that didn't clear up the type of educational institution Jazz would attend as in the US, at eighteen some kids still attend high school as others attend their first year of college. Another thing that bothered me was the apple tattoo that the vampires were marked with. I will be honest my mind drifted to the story of Adam and Eve, where Eve tempted Adam with an apple (thought the fruit was not specifically mentioned). It seems in this case we have Adam tempting Eve.

The last issue I have is a big one; the relationship between the characters. I searched desperately for something to grasp to. I wasn't given a chance to feel for the characters. As a matter of fact the only thing I felt was similarities to other characters from other series without feeling. And the relationship between jazz and Seb seemed forced and unnatural. However, I think most of my issues boils down to the language used by the narrator. The narrator felt like a eighty year old pretending to be sixteen again only failing to lose the maturity.

All this being said, I did finish more because the curiosity to see where the relationship between Jazz and Seb would lead. What can I say I'm a sucker for romance. Not to mention that I do plan on reading the second book in the series just to find out if Jazz ends up with child, what comes of Seb's home land, if Jazz's visions come to past and more about the apple tats.

I received a free copy off this book from the author in return for a honest review.

First of all I liked that this book had a another view on vampires than all the other vampire books that I have ever read. They come from a planet different than the one we live on and I would have loved to learn more about it. When this planet was described in the book I found it fascinating. Also the vampires were different, they didn’t need to drink human blood to survive. I also liked that the book was written in Jezz point of view as well as in Sebs point of view. It’s always interesting to know what both characters think about a situation. Another plus point was that the book was set in Australia. It was nice to have a different setting, because most books I read are set in the US.

But other than that the book was just ok. The story seemed a bit rushed, the book could have been better if it was longer. Also I couldn’t feel the chemistry between Jezz and Seb. And at the end Seb lost some points, what he did, even if he thought it was for the best, is unforgivable. The secondary characters were nothing special, they just didn’t appear enough in the book. So you never really got to know them. It seemed that they were only there to fill up the book.
And then the lead character Jezz. I couldn’t connect with her, believe me I tried. Maybe it was because I couldn’t follow her thoughts, they kept rambling on, or maybe it was because the story was to rushed. She also made some wrong choses, I mean I get that people make mistakes all the time but in this case some of them were just odd.

I do recommend this book to people who are looking for a vampire book with a different setting and to people who want a quick, light read.

'He Came For Me', written by myself, I think has an edge on similar books written in the Vampire genre and this should make it stand out from the crowd. Although the story is mainly based on the romance of the two main characters, it is entwined with intrigue and action.

The story is set within two worlds, Earth and Aidensdein, with a selection of good and evil characters making for an interesting read, with some conflict between the two sides giving the story some punch!

Readers should easily connect with the two main characters and will be caught up in the intimacy and intense feelings of Jasmine and Sebastian. There are some steamy love scenes within the story, which will excite and stimulate some readers, but it doesn't go so far as to be categorized as erotica.

It is quite an easy read and fast paced and will leave readers wanting to find out what will happen next!

I recommend this book to Young Adults and Adults who like to read books in this genre.

This a Read 4 Review that I could not finish. It was an interesting read until 30% when the main male character explains who he is. I won't spoil, but not for me. Not only that, but all of a sudden insta-love developed which I really dislike in a book. I feel that it would be unfair to rate since I have not finished it, but I may return back to this at another time.

This one didn't make an impression on me, I was put off by the stalker tendencies Seb seemed to possess.. so not a fan of the stalkers -__-
