For 5000 years shipping has served the world economy and today it provides a sophisticated transport service to every part of the globe. Yet despite its economic complexity, shipping retains much of the competitive cut and thrust of theperfect market of classical economics. This blend of sophisticated logistics and larger than life entrepreneurs
I was blown away by this book literally! Maritime Economics is not only a book which contains the methodological analysis of global maritime market but it also deals with maritime supply chains; that is, ocean transportation, ports, marine terminals and maritime logistics. It provides an interesting insight look on how this chain works by analyzing each part of it. Therefore, the book gives the readers the tools that enables them to fully understand the fundamentals of the global situation of the maritime market as well as its structure and his components. Highly recommended to Logistics and MBA students as well as every professional in this field. Loved it, a must read!

Even though it's outdated, it still is THE BEST maritime economics book out there, by miles. I will have to refer back to it now and then while I am still in the maritime sector. I do hope Stopford is secretly working on a new and updated fourth edition! It is badly needed.
Martin Stopford has written this comprehensive introduction to maritime economics. I recommend it to be read by all our shipping industry professionals.
