Rate this book
A book with bite and “a gem of a heroine”— third in the series from the author of Dead Sexy. It’s been one heck of a week for Garnet Lacey. The Vatican witch hunters finally think she’s dead, the FBI has closed their file on her, she’s co-founding a new coven—and the gorgeous vampire she loves has just asked her to marry him. How lucky can one girl get? Then, her fiancé goes missing and Garnet’s worried sick. Has he been kidnapped? Or could he have run off with that blonde from the coven? Now Garnet will have to seek the help of her future stepson—the same brat who turned her over to the witch hunters for a brand-new Jaguar. But there’s more bad the Goddess Lilith, who camps out in her body, has been making embarrassing appearances. And on top of that, some killer’s on her tail...

5 Stars:
It is a great page-turning read. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next Garnet book! Garnet Lacey is just a fun character all around.

My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

This was super fun - it was nice not having having the love triangle in the mix to bring down the mood, for one. And it was really cool getting to know Sebastián's son Matvoch (sp?) so much better. I really like him as a character and hope we get to see a lot more of him and his unique abilities. It's exciting to see Garnet really embracing her magic again and dealing with her inner goddess (LITERALLY, Lilith is piggybacking inside her). And some nice developments in Garnet and Sebastián's relationship too. Great narration, of course, because it's Amanda Ronconi. On to the next!

A fun and fast read.
Despite the fact that I liked the plot, I didn't really click with the characters.
It might be that I came in on the third volume in the series and I'm missing their backgrounds.
That said, you can totally follow along with the story and understand everyone's situations without needing to read previous volumes. I appreciated that.

This book is a mismash of witches, goddesses, vampires, ghouls, and a plot that doesn't have much substance. Good for a mindless read but not much else.

Two stars feels a little harsh, because the writing isn't really that bad, but after three books I can honestly say I don't like Garnet Lacey. The basic plot is okay, as is the writing, but I just don't like these characters, especially the main character. I was turned off from the beginning with this one, when Garnet became upset with Sebastian for not biting her during sex. Never mind she made it clear to him she doesn't want to be his primary blood donor. Never mind she doesn't even attempt to talk to him about it. She then spends a fair chunk of the book questioning his fidelity and wondering just what he does with his blood donors. Because, again, Lord forbid she ever asked him about it so she wouldn't just automatically assume the worst about a man who's given her no real reason to doubt him.

I'm going to channel my inner Jan Brady now and say "Lilith! Lilith! Lilith!" Enough already with the Lilith. For a powerful goddess, why does she only pop up when it's a convenient plot device? Garnet was a witch before she invited Lilith in, so why doesn't she ever seem to do magic on her own? And I don't care if I never hear another character mention/touch their belly ever again.

Okay. I guess I disliked this character even more than I thought.

a well rounded good story. easily between a 3 and a 4.......
I was already into this book when I realized it is actually the 3rd book in the series..... I don't usually indulge in series books ..... unless it's actually something I am willing to commit to.... and then I typically want to start at book one to build upon getting to know the characters...... if I was to come across another one of Garnet's adventures, I might be tempted to pick it up and find out what's going on in her witchy world......

in regards to this particular book, I enjoyed this witchy tale with a vampire bite of love to it and have to say the author definitely does a great job sharing the witchy lifestyle with very informative details. As a part of the story and a matter of just is, it was refreshing to see how right-0n it was written. This was a bit part of appreciating this book find.

as for the plot itself..... fun, quirky, and spicy in a witchy attitude kind of way....if enjoying a paranormal type of read is your thing..... Tate Hallaway's Witchy Life Tale might be something you'd enjoyed too.......

Though I zipped through this book pretty quickly, it was unfortunately kind of a saggy middle for this series. I enjoyed the humor as usual, and caustic, grumpy Mátyás is a GEM, but too many points just didn't work.

- The book begins with an engagement ring, which really demands a leap of faith because Garnet and Sebastian's relationship is so insubstantial. I mean, it's fun, but it's still little more than supernatural hi-jinks and post-crisis sex.

- The Marge & Micah/Coyote plot line was a mess. I still have no idea what they were really after and why, and Garnet kept getting way too close to someone who was supposedly a threat.

- The ghoul community could have been interesting, but it ended up a campy other-woman shtick with possessive, suburban vampire groupies.

- With Sebastian missing for most of the book, this particular installment was magic-heavy, and unfortunately, magical light shows and walks in the astral plane just don't work as well on a page as they do on a screen.

I loved Book One of this series, Tall Dark and Dead but I was not a fan of Book Two, Dead Sexy. Book Three was great. I really liked the plot, the cast of characters (Mátyás was finally given some depth and Benjamin is an interesting wrinkle) and I'm glad I stayed with the series. I especially enjoy books with gods and goddesses from different religions, regions and eras so this book was a hit with me.

Honestly, it wasn’t that the book was bad, but there were a lot of plots in not enough pages. It felt rushed, especially the last 50 pages.

This may be the best one yet! What fun twists and turns. And you have to love these characters. I had to hold myself back from reading this in one sitting!

Eh...there could be spoilers in this review...depends on what you call spoilers so if you don't want to know anything about the book, don't read this. If you've already read it and want to hear my opinion, read on. I def liked this one a lot more than the 1st 2 in the series. I like the way the author writes, she puts plenty oh humor in with out it being annoying. The love scenes are thankfully not in massive detail. Just enough to make you purr when needed. I really like the main character, Garnet. Oh, here it comes though....BUT, I just have a hard time wrapping my head around all the magic that goes on and no one around is any the wiser. Are the 'humans' really that dumb? Shouldn't there be at least a mention of alien happenings or something mystical by the skeptical observant humans out there ( I know it's witch magic cause I'm reading it, but as far as the rest of the world goes it's still a hush, hush secret). The authorities get explained away easily. Too easily. I get the difference between paranormal romance and urban fantasy now, FINALLY.
I loved the first two books in the series all the way up until the last 1/4 of the book. The ending of both was just too way out there for me. I hoped this one wouldn't go that same way, and in a way it didn't. I enjoyed it till the very last few pages when the conclusion of the Coyote & Lilith problem was solved. It did give Garnet the answer she needed about marrying Sebastion and then growing old and him not. I guess it was a pretty clever way for her to become immortal without turning vamp. Garnet is a fun character and I will keep reading the series because the writing is good enough for me to forge through the massive amount of 'out there' magic. I've seen some other reviews, not everyone likes this series, but are there any series out there that anyone can agree on? Not a chance. So, read it for yourself to see if you like it. I do.

This is the third book in the Garnet Lacey series & continues on a few months after the end of Dead Sexy. I'd recommend reading the series in order - although this review won't give spoilers for Romancing the Dead it will include spoilers for previous books so I wouldn't recommend reading further if you've not read the previous books.

Sebastian and Garnet have just got engaged but with Garnet's track record that doesn't mean everything is going to go smoothly. She is still struggling with jealousy issues, hating the fact that Sebastian has ghouls (people he feeds from) but not wanting to become his main food source. She is also nervous about moving in with him & worried about what the future will hold - with him being an immortal vampire & her being a human who will age.

Sebastian has talked Garnet into starting a new coven - something she has been very wary of doing since her coven was slaughtered by the Vatican witch hunters. This introduces a whole host of interesting characters - including the gorgeous Micha. When Sebastian disappears Garnet isn't sure what to think especially with Matyas back on the scene. They have to team up to try and find out what has happened & form an uncomfortable truce.

I enjoyed this installment of the series & am looking forward to seeing where the story will take Garnet next. I'd say the plot was a bit more predictable than the previous 2 books but I still enjoyed it & there were some things that took me by surprise. I was disappointed we didn't get to see too much of Sebastian in this one but it was interesting to see the relationship between Garnet & Matyas developing and I think the coven are going to add interest to future books in the series. Overall this wasn't my favorite book in the series but was still enjoyable & I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Sebastian asks Garnet to marry him… and she says yes, but with reservations… and they decide to start a new coven… they get 11 people, including William – her coworker - (for a total of 13 counting them) at their first meeting… Garnet is aware of a coyote that crosses her path numerous times.

Sebastian is missing… he doesn’t show up to a horticulture meeting or at home… and then Matyas (his son) shows up – he is also concerned about his dad… Matyas & Garnet make an uneasy peace, and work together to find Sebastian… Garnet locates a few of Sebastian’s ghouls, who are mad at Sebastian because has told them he not using their ‘services’ any more…

The Coyote aka The Trickster, is a god inhabiting a man like Lilith inhabits Garnet… and Coyote needs an infusion of power… so he enthralls a woman to help him, they capture Sebastian – staking him, putting him in stasis, & burying him in a coffin… and go after Garnet… The Coyote tricks Garnet into revealing Lilith, and Coyote steals her… but Lilith is still too tied up with Garnet…

Matyas & Garnet locate & rescue Sebastian… and Garnet & Sebastian’s combined power is strong… The take Lilith back…. And Garnet integrates Lilith with her whole self… hmmmm, I wonder what that means… They transmit some rejuvenating power to Coyote….

And things are looking rosy…

I really liked reading this one it wasn't a fast paced book with tons of action or full of sex scenes or anything of popular mainstream demands of books.

It was origional and you grow with the character each time a book comes out in this series. I have known people that were upset that this book wasn't like all the others where you would know the character inside and out. I love this idea of growing with the character as she finds out more about herself and how the world "views" others.

There is no corny "save the world" theme or "look at me!!," it was dare I say realistic feeling? Well as realistic as you can get writing about an occult society that many people really don't want to acknowledge but may be seriously curious about.

I am not a girly girl wedding kind. I had doubts of reading this book at first due to conotations of a wedding theme in it but I was not disappointed at all. Tate kept to her form and delivered a wonderful and delightful read once again. I will be looking forward to the next book.

This is the third book in the Garnet Lacey series and Garnet's life is moving into the fast lane -- she's negotiating to buy the occult bookstore that she's been managing and her she is officially engaged to Sebastian. But now he is missing.

Garnet isn't quite sure what has happened to him. Was he done in by his son -- who ratted him and Garnet out to the Vatican witch hunters in exchange for a Jag? Had he run off with someone else? Or, had something horrible happened to him?

And, there's this werewolf following Garnet around.

In this story, Garnet has to trust he future stepson, Mátyás, to help her find Sebastian and battle with someone who is trying to steal Lilith, the goddess that lives in Garnet's body, from her.

Just who can she trust and how will she protect herself from those who want to harm her?

Once again, another enjoyable story about Garnet. Hallaway has a writing style that keeps you interested and a great sense of humor in all her stories.

Check out my other listens at Eargasms Audiobook Reviews

Another book with a lot going on, but this time the pace is much better. The whole engagement was a cold start, a little jump forward in the storyline.

I am getting used to Garnet and Sebastian, not my first choice, but I am warming up to him. Loved the whole missing storyline, it lead to two other plots, that did not disappoint!

A little bit of smexy time mixed in makes for a happy romance reader. Yummy steam that is just this side of too hot.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by the always fabulous Amanda Ronconi. She has a wonderful was of infusing excitement and movement into every books she reads.

Can't wait to jump into the next book of the series. I really like all the supporting characters and am curious to see where we are headed.

What a lame book.....I say just kill Garnet off or make her a stand-up woman who lives up to the full potential of her gifts & talents. Make her "Walk the Talk" or end the series.....she's a loser. The series is deteriorating.

This is it....really... How can someone carrying the Goddess Lilith inside them, who survived the murder of their entire coven and the victor of more than one murderous group of assassins, who happens also to be a very knowledgeable & capable practitioner of the "craft" be so FARKING STOOPID? HUH? Tell me?

Garnet has not a F-ing clue what is going on around her...within her own bookstore, not even within the people who are coming to her to form a coven....

Stoopid people can not be heroes...because dumb luck & "oh Duh! absolutely DO Not qualify as courage...nor does bumbling into the right answers.

I’m on the top of the world. The Vatican witch hunters think I’m dead, the FBI has closed my file, I might get to buy the occult bookstore I manage, I’m co-founding a brand-new coven—and the vampire I love has just proposed. How lucky can a girl get?

Wait, wai—Oh, crap. I’ve jinxed myself. My fiancé, Sebastian, is missing and I’m worried sick. Has he been kidnapped? Or could he have run off with that leggy blonde from the coven?

Now I’ll have to seek the help of my future stepson—the same brat who once turned me over to the Catholics, all for a pimped-out Jag.

Plus, the Goddess Lilith, who camps out in my body, has been making embarrassing appearances. Now all I need is some crazy killer on my tail. Hold on, hold— Double crap.

I really enjoyed this third installment in Garnet's story! This one was quite a bit faster-paced with a lot of of excitement as Garnet tries to discover what's happened to Sebastian, who's disappeared.

There is a very interesting progression of both Garnet's character and the relationship between her and Sebastian in this book. Also there are a variety of supporting characters in this story who are nearly as fascinating as the main characters.

The plot really moves fast in this story, and I read it in a day and a half because it was so interesting I just didn't want to put it down until I found out how the story ended.

This is a quick and easy read, but it's a great story. Well worth picking up. I recommend it.

Tate Hallaway is fun to read. Breezy, clever style and humor, and Garnet is a total trip. A witch (previously on the run from Vatican assassins) in Madison, Wisconsin, and newly engaged to a vampire, what's she going to do when he goes missing, and magical attacks on her come at every turn? Is it someone in her newly-forming coven? And what about that dog-like animal she keeps seeing? The Goddess Lilith, who resides within Garnet, is getting restless, too, and that can make things crazy. Trying to work together with her fiance's son to find him, when he is a 150 year old 17-year-old (vampire, of course) who despises her, is a real trick. Can Garnet pull it off?

Not as good as the first two in this series. These are more a chick-lit genre than romance or erotica.

Garnet's life is going well. She's considering buying the magic bookstore she runs, she's come to terms with the Goddess Lilith she carries inside her, and her vampire lover, Sebastian, just proposed to her! Life is great...until Sebastian disappears, someone is trying to kill Garnet, and a big ole' dog keeps 'dogging' her steps! What's going on?

As I mentioned, not as good as the first two. Garnet has several not-too-bright moments in this one...but the storyline does advance.

This has been my favourite Hallaway book yet. The character growth along the series so far has been great and the story just gets more interesting with each new installment.

In this one, Garnet is set to move on with her life now that she isn't as worried about the authorities (federal and vatican both) hot for her hide. Her vamp has popped the question, she's trying to buy the store, and she's hoping to start a new coven.

Of course just when life seems to quiet down, things tend to go kablooey. And boy do they ever for poor Garnet.

Classified as bit-lit (romance involving supernatural creatures, in this case vampires), this is the third in the Garnet Lacey series. It's a fun and engaging read, and is the strongest of the three to date. There's less romance and there are more direct attacks on Garnet than we saw in the previous two books. The world and characters are wonderfully quirky and realistic. There were some surprises along the way, though the ending was pretty straightforward (which is not a problem since it doesn't appear to be intended as a twist). I look forward to the next one.

Was glad that I did not read my own review of the last book where I swore off the series before purchasing this one. This was back on track and as good as the first book. Still not "literature” by any means and not even in my top series that are about vampires and magic but a fun read when you are tired of “literature”.

That said, Garnet and the gang are back with another supernatural, wild, crazy and funny adventure. It is a great page turner mixed with plenty of sex, magic, bloodsucking and mystery when Sebastian goes missing.

Read it and join in the fun.
