I got totally fascinated with elephant seals after visiting them on a trip to Cambria. They swim and forage nonstop for months, then fast for the months they spend on the beach. They can dive deeper than almost any other mammal. They were almost made extinct by hunting for their blubber. I enjoyed this book, and it’s a quick, informative read about these amazing creatures. Highly recommend!
I didn't know a lot about elephant seals before reading this book, and now I do! It is short but informative and easy-to-read. It's unfortunate that a lot of the organizations referenced have closed since the book was written, but you can still go view elephant seals all over the Northern and Central Coast (I certainly have!). Also, the illustrations are absolutely adorable.
This book is an excellent source of information on Elephant Seals. Well written and from the heart you can feel the love of these animals by the authors.
A nice pamphlet by members of the Friends of the Elephant Seal, a local conservation and education group. Lots of worthwhile information. When you visit the seals, a few miles north of Hearst Castle, you'll likely see volunteers from the FOES, in blue jackets. I never get tired of visiting them.
