A few thoughts:
I loved the atmosphere of the jungle.
The idea was really interesting.
It read like a script more than a book.
I was missing some scenes between important events.
Generally I'm not a fan of open endings.

Although I'll give the book a couple of stars for a neat story idea, that's about as generous as I can get.
When a group of anthropololgists, scientists and a cryptozoologist band together for an expedition deep into Madagascar's jungle, secrets get revealed soon into the story as to just what the group is looking for that were not divulged to the group before signing on. When the group soon locates their target, creatures of the Kalanoro legend, all hell breaks loose when they capture a few of the young creatures that appear to be mini versions of big foot. Angry that their young are taken, the adult Kalanoro attack and chase the group, killing members of the team as they rush to evacuate out of the rainforest.
About half way through the book I just had to throw in the towel. The writing is very poor, the dialog very sappy and flat, the characters are very lifeless and no character development is shown. This book reads like a screenplay for a low budget made for tv movie on the syfi channel. At first I was surprised that an editor would let this get published but then realized after I purchased the book that the book was self-published therefore more than likely not professionally edited. I think that the author had a hopeful idea for a promising storyline but doesnt have the experience or polish to bring it to fruition.

There are very few books that I don't finish, so when I quit half through, I know it's not worth my time to pursue to the end. I won this book on Goodreads First-reads. I only started reading this book a few days ago but I got totally hooked. The plot was not one I had experienced before and I felt that the characters had depth. I could tell something fishy was going on in the camp, though I admit I did suspect Ursula aswell as the Proffesor. When the kalamono attacked and everyone ended up dying soon after except Ursula and Rylan, I couldn't quite believe it. I knew there was more than half the book still to read and couldn't figure out what was going to happen next. What did happen next surprised me very much, the taking of the pills raised my suspicions that something was going on and also the note left for Rylan, I was quite surprised that he just went along with the whole thing rather than being angry at Ursula for putting his life in so much danger and changing it forever. Towards the end I thought I could forsee what was going to happen, that the organisation would fall and everyone would be happy, but the ending didn't really give everything away. I still don't know why the adult kalamano basically committed suicide, though it was quite moving. I thought that it ended on quite a cliff-hanger which really annoyed me, especially as the book doens't say anything about a sequal.
Overall I rated this book 4 stars, marked down because I would've liked more indepth plot and for the book to be longer with a conclusive ending. Apart from that, I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who like mysteries.

Unique story about a chosen group of people, including an anthropologist and scientists, who were summoned and lured to the wild, dangerous rainforest in Madagascar. They searched for and encountered a mysterious group of primates, othermen. Even though there were many moments of adventure and suspense throughout this book, the plot lines were underdeveloped as were the characters.
