I’m still getting my head wrapped up into this underrated series. But I’m quite certain that not everyone will enjoy this manga spin-off without even knowing the main series beforehand.

I for one don’t mind reading this first since I *ahem* read a few recaps. And I’m no child anymore.

If I were still a kid the day this manga have been released, I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more.

Wow, what to say on this. This was bad.

I tried to read this, I really did. But it lacked that sort of feeling that the books did. I feel the idea came in a conversation that went down like this:
"Hey there boss, we need a new idea for a manga. What should we do?"
"Let's redo a book, one that wasn't so popular, so that it gets more attention."
"Okay then, let's review the books, to see what it's like"
"Oh, that's not necessary. Get a brief summary on each of the main characters, but only the girls and animals, then make up a love interest for the blonde."
"Sir, isn't that a bit cliche? Also, what if fans get mad?"
"Nah, it'll sell. The formula always works."

Thus, this was born. And, as this hypothetical conversation said, it did work. I saw a girl reading this, and went over to ask if she liked the book series better than that. She looked at me funny, and said:
"There's a book series of this?"

It kind of makes me sad. But anyway, it's good, if you don't know anything of the original story, plot, or characters.

P.S. That Warlock dude is stupid. He looks like a terrible play on Zach.

P.S. Again, how come Avalon moves like, and they have to jump through portals to get there? I remember from the books for the most part that you had to have crystals, find the gates of Avalon, etc., etc. So they shouldn't have been able to get there anyway.

And lastly, be careful, theories and spoilers ahead, darlings! (Darn, been watching to much Doctor Who again.)

Oh my goodness, this was really bad.

The only saving grace in this cliche mess, was the art. I particularly enjoyed the art style of the first manga.

I wouldn’t have my children read this. So much childish and pointless dialogue, borderline toddler humour, lame characters, and a very lacklustre story. Don’t even get me started on the romance. The romance is laughably bad and wooden.

Kara is extremely unlikeable. She is rude, narcissistic, obnoxious, unfunny and, of course, boy crazy. I have no idea why she was given a love interest, or why this manga focused on her. Having the story centred on Adrienne or Emily would’ve made it more tolerable.
Tragically, Emily is practically pointless. She barely has any dialogue. Adrienne is the typical angry, stoned faced character. It is a shame, because of what I can remember from the books, Adrienne and Emily were the best and most relatable characters.

So the romance. Kara and Donovan have no chemistry at all. He suddenly likes her. Why? Because she is blonde? And I guess he is into girls who are dim witted and obsessed with him? (Side note: Kara is described as being smart, pretty, funny, charming, rich, popular, etc. She is practically a Mary Sue. How are we, as the audience, supposed to care or root for her? Especially when she is actually a ditz, vain, and repulsive. Most of her dialogue is eye roll worthy and a cringe fest galore).
Their scenes together are so bad and cliche, they actually made me laugh out loud.

Donovan is bland as a piece of cardboard. He is boring and has a non existent personality. His defining trait is his crush on Kara and having a pathetic one track mind towards her. Heaven forbid that he would have a crush on one of the other girls, or heck, just have no love interest at all. That way, he could actually develop a personality.

Furthermore, what the heck was up with Frizzle yelling random stuff? He does it all the time, and it is never funny. It is just pointless fluff.

The ending is lame and disappointing. It makes their adventure feel completely pointless.

Overall, don’t waste your time on this one. You would be better off to check out the books. I remember they were a little more interesting and fleshed out. While Kara was still garbage in them (being still a Mary Sue, and just as painfully narcissistic/annoying/b**chy/and overall a terrible role model for young girls), Emily and Adrienne really helped to pull the series through!

I remember going feral as a kid who was obsessed with anime when this spin-off came out.

Now, not only does this series not really have a place in the overall timeline (and reads like fanfiction of the series), but it introduced some cool elements that I wish were more prominent in the books. The warlock vs. mage dynamic was cool and I wish we’d see more of their cultures and magic clashing.

And ummm how is the throw-away extra story at the end of the manga introducing the most interesting thing? Like, not only did we see more of Sierra (who was promptly forgotten about lol), but the concept of the Mage Academy seemed like the basis of the best spin-off with next gen mages in the ever-popular magical school setting. Forever sad Roberts hasn’t and probably never will continue back with this world.

Also… justice for my boy Lorren? C’mon Kara.

This comic book style trilogy, art gallery, and short story about three mages is aimed at tweens. It's pure American with a lean towards a Disney Channel style presentation. You've got three young female mages and a young male warlock who will answer the ages old question, can warlock and mage magic work together to find Avalon? Accepting that it's aimed at tweens explains a lot of the bad reviews. It really isn't bad, but I think the Japanese do this sort of thing better!

This was an adorable read. I enjoyed it quite a bit and will be passing it off to my daughter as this is perfect for an 11 year old girl.

1.5 stars. Ideas are potentially good. I just wished they were developed more and dragged out longer. The omnibus I read had a short story at the end, and it managed to bring nostalgia. There is so much more to tell. I wish there was more.

A close friend of mine gave me this manga as a gift last christmas, so truth be told, I tried my hardest to like this book. God, I really reallydid. But did I like it though? Noooo, not really.

Well the artwork was amazing, I'd at least give it that. But everything else? Everything else gave me a headache. The romance? The plot? The characters? Hell no. Nothing else about this book was remarkable but the illustrations. Everything aside from that was so shallow and cliche it was laughable.

Also, you're probably thinking that the reason why I didn't like this book and I found it ridiculous is because I'm too old to have even read it in the first place. But no, I'm only 12 years old. And if a 12 year old girl didn't like your manga, then there must be something wrong with it.

Geared towards kids, mainly girls but not in that so good adults can enjoy it too sort of way. If I had an 8-11 year old daughter I would recommend this book especially with its themes of love, friendship, and good vs. evil. For everyone else steer clear.

A manga spin off of Avalon, it was a pretty good. My one complaint: Kara! She already has a boyfriend and she's pretty much cheating on Lorren when she kisses Donovan.

Overall I enjoyed this, but I liked the other books better. I loved the art, but I had a major problem with Kara and Donovan's relationship. Is she cheating on Lorren now or something?
