In Final Resort internationally acclaimed novelist Ian St James gives us a tale that sweeps from London to Paris to the lush Mediterranean isle of Majorca, roller-coastering from financial triumph to disaster - and back again. Protagonist Cyril Todd begins life with a tremendous will to succeed. In a short time he is owner of London's most prestigious car dealership; married to a beautiful woman whom he only partly understands; and living a lifestyle that is the envy of his friends. But the need to be somebody is as strong as ever. So when he spots the investor's chance of a lifetime, one that could boost him into the elite realm of the mega-financier, Todd willingly risks turning to Europe's darkest source to secure financial backing, where interest is paid in only the most terrifying currency. Todd's race to fulfill his ambition becomes a countdown for survival, where the love and savvy of his wife, a small cast of clever characters and his own hard-earned instinctive good sense are all he can rely on. By availing himself of one final resort, he risks all. Only Ian St James, ex-global financier, could have written a novel such as this - one that moves easily through the most exotic locales to the world of brutal cunning, all the while probing the emotions that lie hidden deep within the human psyche. Final Resort is a triumphant read by a master storyteller, sure to capture the imagination of readers worldwide.

Interesting and well paced novel of greed and international finance. The protagonist makes a bad decision to borrow from a shady character, and the consequences could be dire. As the novel progresses, the entanglements get more complex and the race to get the loan paid makes this novel impossible to put down. I enjoyed it!

Different from my normal genre. Bit of a slow start but really enjoyed this book.
Once it gathers pace it is hard to put down.
