A Midsummer's Delight

Rate this book
A DELIGHTFUL MISS

Charity Calder had been only too happy to return to her country village after her first season in London, for she knew her expertise would be needed to help plan the midsummer festival. Of course, she missed the excitement and gaiety of the ton...until she discovered the identity of her new neighbor -- the celebrated artist, Tristan Hale. Charity could not help but be drawn to his romantic Byronic looks and exotic foreign manner, for despite her most practical appearance she had always dreamed of being swept off her feet by a handsome gentleman. Now if only she could convince the enigmatic lord of her true desires...

A DELIGHTED LORD

Returning to England after a prolonged visit to Italy, Lord BAden was less than eager to deal with the practicalities of estate management. And so he was delighted to make the acquaintance of the eminently sensible -- and rather charming -- Miss Charity Calder. Her capable ways and captivating spirit calmed his artistic temperament...and her enthusiasm for the annual summer fair was contagious. In fact, all in all, Miss Calder was a most fetching piece, but did he dare offer his love to a lady who seemed to little time for frivolous affairs of the heart?

I really liked this book---so different from the regencies I've been reading. Charity turns down all of her suitors, including a marquess, and yet her personality and joie de vivre seem to draw all to her whether she wants the attention or not. She has secret pain however, and the only man that seems to see that is a mysterious Italian painter named Tristan, who has a troubled sister and two nephews to deal with. Charity and Tristan's paths cross and the twists to this romance made it totally worth my time. It was a clean romance right up until the end when there is a brief scene (I didn't think it was needed, but it was tasteful nonetheless.) I am definitely going to read another book by this author.

I originally snagged this novel on sale off Amazon because I was told I would relate to the character. Wow, was that true. Anyone who knows me well (especially if you knew me in college) would recognize Charity's volunteering, perkiness, and problem-solving skills in my personality. It was almost unnerving. I greatly liked Tristan's character too, especially when he sat down and problem-solved without anyone needing to push him to the correct conclusions. I wasn't thrilled about the writing at first, but I soon realized that Rasley wrote the story the way she did to add to the conflict, which made sense. It just drove me crazy early in the novel. I really liked it though, and would definitely read it again if I needed a fun, light romance.

Read as an ebook. Sometimes characters are just so ... good ... that you can't stand them. Charity is not one of those, at least, not for me. I love her, although if she were someone I knew in real life, there were have been some definite dropkicking going on (girl!! get a grip!!) at a couple points but you know, that's one of the things that makes this story engaging.

SOLID 4. At first I thought this is going to be a typical regency romance where sparks fly instantly between the characters. I was almost disappointed at the way they got together the first time. I mean, I'm not one grand gestures but.... Let's say I just appreciated their second love confession more than the first one.

This was an engaging Regency Story. The cast of characters was fairly well developed and the dialogue was enjoyable. It could have done with some more editing and proofing, but if you can overlook that it was a fun, clean read.

Another Sweet Story

Recency genre

Very well written. The characters were imaginable. The whole village is imaginable. Although I liked it, very much, it was a bit wordy. I became a little impatient at times. I will look up other books by Alicia Easley.

Loved it! Great regency romance. Almost "sweet" but a little sassy at the end (heads up for my friends!). I really enjoyed it!

I really loved this book. It was less predictable than most Regency romances and had some genuinely interesting characters.

A good book on Kindle unlimited which, at this point in my reading career, is rare. I will definitely read more by this author.

I enjoyed this one, although I was a little annoyed at the back and forth, and just wanted them to figure it all out sooner than they actually did.
